Day 15 Surah Furqan 25 th July 2013 ) وقال ٱلرس ول يرب إن قومى ٱتخذوا هذا ٱل قرءان مهجورا ) ٣٠ And the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) will say: "O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur'ân (neither listened to it, nor acted on its laws and teachings). (30) In the Quran, Allah uses different names for Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. Sometimes He calls him 'our slave', sometimes Muhammad SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. And here, He calls him ArRasool. Because that was his mission. Rasoolullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam calls Allah and complains to Him in this ayah. So we can complain to Allah if we feel constricted by our problems. Don't complain to others. This is a big comfort, big relief for your distress. From the first day till his last moment, he was calling people to Allah, inviting people out of mercy for them. When the people (whether during his time or after his death) rejected him, he complained to Allah. He calls Allah with His Ruboobiyah. Allah is our Lord, Reformer, Nurturer. He is AlMuslih, AlMudabbir. Especially when u r faced with rejection and you see people rejecting to the divine book, call Allah with this name. The prophets mostly called Allah with this name. My people, my responsibility, he is attached to them. Allah.'قومى' He is calling his people tells us he is full of mercy and compassion for the people. Allah chose a very caring messenger for us, who wanted everyone to be saved from the hellfire. Did Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam want them to face misery on the day of judgement? But the people put themselves into destruction by belying him and belying the Quran. But notice he is not saying, 'they are rejecting me'. He is saying, 'they are rejecting Kalam Allah'. They are deserting, forsaking it, underestimating it, not paying attention to it. Quran is the Furqan. The Criterion. And whenever you desert Quran, you will have foggy vision. taking refuge, taking shelter. It doesn t mean they didn't have the Quran. They had :ٱتخذوا it, took it, but they deserted it. Quran is not for decorating your houses. forsake. to desert, هجر again. the book which is recited again and :ٱل قرءان
From the Quran and Sunnah we know about what manners we should have when dealing with Quran. Leaving anyone of the manners means we have forsaken it. Ibnul Qayyum Rahimahullah explained the types of forsaking the Quran: 1. Forsaking listening attentively to the Quran Allah tells us in the Quran to listen carefully to receive mercy. Listening increases your
iman. But we think, straight away we want to recite the Quran. Even the door for memorising of the quran is through listening to it again and again and again. This needs patience. Have time in a day when you listen to the Quran, whether from someone or from a recording. 2. Forsaking acting upon it and not to stand upon on what Allah commands. Therefore, we need to go very slowly with ayaatul Quran. Eg we read one ayah, then repeat it again and again, then you act upon it. Act upon the halal and haram on it. 3. Forsaking the judgement of the Quran. eg. in our relationship with people. When you read the ayah that people are tests, it will help you decide how you want to deal with them. So you will not do anything until you take judgement from the Quran. If Allah said dunia is like this, you treat it accordingly. Eg. the stories of the sons of Adam alaihisalam, there are other books that also have this story. But we make the Quran as a judge. If it is in the Quran, we will accept it, otherwise not. 4. Forsaking reflection upon it. This has to do with questions, you ask questions, and you put yourselves there. Eg, when you read ayah 30, you ask, what does it mean? How are my actions? Why did Allah say Rasool, not Muhammad SallAllahu alaihi wasallam? Why is the name Rab mentioned? 5. Forsaking using the Quran as a remedy to cure what is in the heart. There is no book in the world which will cure what is in your heart. When you read it, think, it is showing me the sicknesses of my heart and is a remedy for it.
Allah didn t reveal the Quran for it to be in our tongues or in our hearts, or to just memorise the Quran. Today everyone only wants to memorise the Quran. Not all the sahaba had memorised the Quran. Because they knew that there was something deeper and more important. To use as a remedy to cure what is in my heart, to act upon it, ponder upon it. We need to see the sahaba, how they used to do ihsan with the Quran. The sahaba dealt with the Quran divided into surahs, not parts (juz). So they would say, I am reading Surah Baqarah. Ajzaa came afterwards just to make it easy for the people. Your relationship with the Quran should be to finish it maximum once every 30 days, and the minimum should be finishing it in one week. And that one week used to be divided according to the surahs. So the way of the sahaba: 1 st day: first 3 surahs 2 nd day: next 5 surahs 3 rd day:next 7 surahs 4 th day:divide the next surahs accordingly 5 th day: 6 th day:
7 th day: Mufassal (Surah Qaaf till Surah Naas) Their focus was to make the Quran your companion. The Quran should be our companion. So the previous ayaat tell us about how the disbeliever will regret taking a bad companion. Here, this ayah tells us not to forsake the Quran and make it our comapanion. The salaf would read the Quran to get a double reward. Whenever they would read the voluntary prayers, they would read the Quran from where they are reciting in their prayer. Eg, in their reciting if they are on Surah Baqarah Ayah 20, then they will recite from Ayah 21 in their voluntary prayers. Especially in ramadan, we read so many voluntary prayers. You can read it while looking from the mushaf. So you are having a double reward reading Quran and making voluntary prayer. In the obligatory prayers, they would stick to what Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam would pray, mainly from the Mufassal. Another way to ponder the Quran is to take it as a lifetime project. It is not a weekly, nor monthly, nor yearly project. Hifz comes after you have acted upon the Quran. Then it will really stay in your heart. So things to do with Quran: 1. Reading 2. Tadabbur 3. Hifz
So don t have a single day without access to the Quran. We have been studying Surah Furqaan but we can't say we have given the surah its right. Keep repeating the ayaat again and again. This will create the bond with the Quran. Then in every situation you will remember the Quran. It will be like a message reminder. And then you will memorise it. It will stay in our heart. May Allah make the Quran really go into our heart. Remember, there is no competition to finish the Quran because this is Kalam Allah. So Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam is very sad that the people left the Quran. If you have the Quran as your companion, will the shaytan accompany you? No. So you will be drawn towards the good people, and the bad people will leave. May Allah make us among the ahlul Quran. Ameen. ) وكذٲلك جعلنا لكل نبىz عدوwا من ٱل مجرمين t وكفى بربك هاديا ونصيرا ) ٣١ Thus have We made for every Prophet an enemy among the Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, criminals). But Sufficient is your Lord as a Guide and Helper. (31) Now Allah is comforting and consoling Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. He wants to guide his people and they are rejecting him. He wants to take them to light, they are preferring darkness. So Allah is consoling him by telling him dont be sad, because people have always done this with their prophets. sunnatullah. :جعلنا If there is a nabi, there will always be a enemy. At least one. These enemies are from the criminals, sinners, rejecters of Allah and His Messenger SallAllahu alaihi :ٱل مجرمين t wasallam, they don t want anything good and they are rejecting the truth and they argue and dispute with falsehood. They don't want goodness of la ilaaha illallah, of the Quran. They are rejecting the Quran and the Messenger SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, they are arguing with the Messenger SallAlalhu alaihi wasallam. So there is always a fight between good and evil, right and wrong, truth and falsehood. Why did Allah make enemies for the messenger SallAllahu alaihi wasallam? Allah is qaadir, he can make all the people listen to the Messenger SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, follow him, obey him. But this is hikmah of Allah. There is something good in that. 1. In order to know who is truthful and serious for dawa. In the beginning everyone
wants to be in the dawa. But not everyone can do it. They will see rejection from people, family, society. If you are truthful with Allah, you will continue. But if you think, why are people talking bad about me, putting me down, okay I'll leave the dawa. The way of dawa is a very long way and there are many trials to make sure that only the truthful and the serious and patient ones will remain. Because calling people to Allah is a very great position. The minute you start doing this and you see enemies, just continue on the path. Because this has been the way of the messengers. 2. Test for the daai and the people and means of elevation. 3. By their enmity and attacks they actually make the truth visible. By their arguing and wanting to suppress the truth, actually they are unknowingly supporting the truth more and more. Because when people see falsehood, they are able to appreciate the truth even more. They are advertising for belief. Thats why there is this battle between good and evil. This is true for prophets and anyone in the field of dawa. So we need to pass on the message in different ways. May Allah make the Quran our companion and make it intercede for us on the day of Judgement. Ameen.
