Other scheduled opportunities throughout the year, as well as by appointment. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Sacrament of The Sick will be administered on the last weekend of each month after the 4PM and 11AM Masses. Who can receive this sacrament? Those who are aged, chronically ill, are having treatments or will be having surgery. We invite you to come receive the Sacrament of the Sick, a source of strength, healing and grace. HOMEBOUND MINISTRY Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring Holy Communion to those unable to attend Sunday Mass. Please contact John Barry in the parish office to make arrangements. Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish HOLY HOUR Join Fr. Roache on the second and third Wednesdays of each month in St. Joseph s Chapel (in the school) from 6:30-7:30PM. All are welcome. This is a time to come together to adore Our Lord in prayer and reflection. In particular, we will pray for peace (in the world and in our homes), for our families, for Our Lady s Parish and Academy, and for your own personal needs. There is power in prayer. Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in your midst. (Mt 18:20) (Sponsored by the parish-based Knights of Columbus). Adoration dates are: Jan. 17, Feb. 14 and 21, Mar. 14 and 21, April 11 and 18, May 9 and 16. REMINDER: Please note that if Waltham Public schools are closed due to inclement weather, there will be NO Holy Hour that evening. GRAND ANNUAL COLLECTION Our Grand Annual Collection continues. Please respond as generously as always. St. Vincent DePaul Clothing Bin has been moved back to the original location, namely the parking lot on the Belmont side of the Church. It will be moved again to the school side next Spring when the anticipated resurfacing of the parking lot is to be completed. HOMEBOUND If you, a family member or a friend are not able to make it to Mass for whatever reason; in the hospital, rehab for broken bone or simply no longer able to drive any reason, please call Sharon in the parish office, 781-894-3481 x2 and we will make arrangements to have communion brought to your home. JOSEPH GATHERING OF CATHOLIC MEN Spend an hour asking God to guide your life on Saturdays from 7:00-8:00am in St. Joseph Chapel. Doors to the school open at 7:00am. Opening prayer is 7:15am followed by discussion and reflection on the Sunday readings with a closing prayer at 7:55am. Jesus knows that to be fully alive, we men need to learn to love like He does, and we need to courageously guard His role in our relationships with our families, friends, colleagues and strangers. Men of St. Joseph is a weekly gathering where Catholic Men pray, discuss the Sunday readings and gain perspective on the sweeter yoke and lighter burden that is God s will in their lives. This Holy Hour is dedicated to the Respecting Life at all phases; from born to unborn. May we join our prayers together for so that our nation and all nations may respect and promote all life, from the first moment of conception until the natural time of death. Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY Interested in meeting other women of faith? Why not try our Women s Bible Study group? This is an informal, relaxed meeting of women interested in sharing faith and friendship by studying the Bible together. For our Fall Bible Study, we will use Mary-Virgin, Mother and Queen: A Bible Study Guide for Catholics by Fr. Mitch Pacwa. We will meet Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm in the parish room across from the parish office. The entrance is behind the school building. Pull in the driveway, park and walk towards the back of the building. It is not necessary to make it to all meetings in order to participate. The food pantry collection is the third weekend of each month. Requested donations are tuna fish, mayonnaise, jars of pasta sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jelly or children s snacks. These items can be left in the designated baskets at each door of the church. We appreciate and thank you. Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish STEUBENVILLE EAST 2018 YOUTH CONFERECNE Religious Education eighth, ninth and tenth graders are invited to join other Catholic teens to experience the joy of following Christ at this year s Steubenville East Youth Conference at UMASS Lowell from July 13-15. A group from Our Lady s participated last year and enjoyed an inspiring and rewarding weekend. So much so, we would like to organize a group again. Hosted by Life Teen, Steubenville East Youth Conference is an experience for incoming high school freshmen through outgoing high school seniors and includes engaging liturgies, inspiring music and moving talks. Evangelistic in nature, this weekend conference is an energetic combination of presenting the Gospel message of love, grace and mercy while offering opportunities for prayer and fellowship. Happy New Year to all. We will have a Bristol Lodge meeting on Tuesday, January 16 at 6:30pm in Our Lady s cafeteria. Our group continues to grow which is a wonderful thing. For our new parishioners, the group goes to the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen on the first Tuesday every other month and serves dinner. Please come and see what it is all about. If you want to help at the soup kitchen during the year, but cannot make the meeting on the 16th, contact Sharon in the parish office to be added to a list. Thank you for taking part in this ministry, it is appreciated by many. SPECIAL COLLECTION WEEKEND The second collection next Sunday, January 20/21 is Special Collection Sunday. This year this collection has been designated by the Archdiocese of Boston as Assistance to Urban Parishes. This collection will help continued support to urban parishes to provide resources for mission and ministry. Thank you in advance for your kindness. RETIRED MEN S CLUB OF ARLINGTON Meet friends you have yet to meet. Come join almost 500 members, from all of the local cities and towns, for quality time and a social experience of fellowship and activity. They meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month in St. Camillus lower church hall. Doors open at 9:30 AM for companionship with free coffee and donuts. Exit 57 Route 2, Dow Ave intersection. The meetings begin at 10:00am. Approximately 100 of our members enjoy a keynote speaker followed by club business. The meetings end at approximately 11:00am. There are also several other member activities available to enjoy in addition to the meetings: Cribbage Tournaments on Mondays Bowling League on Fridays Drop-in Center Monday thru Friday Golf League on Tuesday when in season Trips Dinner Dances Singing Grand Pops and Veterans Services. The Retired Men s Club of Arlington MA is a non-profit organization and social club registered with the Commonwealth.
