Children Sabbath School Lesson #140 for 8-15-2015 Song for opening the Sabbath School: Sabbath day of rest and cheer! Day divine, to me so dear! Come, O come to old and young, Gath ring all for prayer and song. Now the week of toil is o er, And in peace we sit once more At our Father s ample board, Listening to His gracious Word. Hymn Sabbath Day! Lord, our God, we seek Thy face, Bless us with Thy saving grace; May Thy heralds everywhere Clear Thy Gospel truth declare. Let Thy mighty Word hold sway Over men on earth today; Our poor souls, good Shepherd, feed, Into pastures green us lead. May, O Lord, the day be near, When we pass from trials here Into Thine eternal rest, In the mansions of the blest. May, O Lord, the day be near, When we pass from trials here Into Thine eternal rest, In the mansions of the blest. Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #140: The Sabbath Part 4 Isaiah 13:12 (KJV) I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. This week boys and girls, we will continue with part 4 in our lesson entitle, The Sabbath of our study book Desire of Ages! John 15:10 (KJV) If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. John 8:43 (KJV) Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word. John 8:44 (KJV) Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:45 (KJV) And because I tell [you] the truth, ye believe me not. John 8:46 (KJV) Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? John 8:47 (KJV) He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear [them] not, because ye are not of God. Matthew 5:17 (KJV) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#140 (8.15.15) Page 1

Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #29, pages 286-287 The spies dared not answer Christ in the presence of the multitude, for fear of involving themselves in difficulty. They knew that He had spoken the truth. Rather than violate their traditions, they would leave a man to suffer, while they would relieve a brute because of the loss to the owner if it were neglected. Thus greater care was shown for a dumb animal than for man, who is made in the image of God. This illustrates the working of all false religions. They originate in man's desire to exalt himself above God, but they result in degrading man below the brute. Every religion that wars against the sovereignty of God defrauds man of the glory which was his at the creation, and which is to be restored to him in Christ. Every false religion teaches its adherents to be careless of human needs, sufferings, and rights. The gospel places a high value upon humanity as the purchase of the blood of Christ, and it teaches a tender regard for the wants and woes of man. The Lord says, "I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir." Isaiah 13:12. {DA 286.4} Question: Why did the spies dare not to answer Christ in the presence of the multitude? And, what thus was shown to illustrate the working of all false religions? Answer: For fear of involving themselves in difficulty. And, greater care was shown for a dumb animal than for man, who is made in the image of God. They originate in man's desire to exalt himself above God, but they result in degrading man below the brute. Song: Let s learn a beautiful scripture song together dear ones, from the book of 1 Peter! 1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (2x) as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (2x) 1Peter 1: and the18 and 19 verses When Jesus turned upon the Pharisees with the question whether it was lawful on the Sabbath day to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill, He confronted them with their own wicked purposes. They were hunting His life with bitter hatred, while He was saving life and bringing happiness to multitudes. Was it better to slay upon the Sabbath, as they were planning to do, than to heal the afflicted, as He had done? Was it more righteous to have murder in the heart upon God's holy day than love to all men, which finds expression in deeds of mercy? {DA 287.1} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#140 (8.15.15) Page 2

Question: With what question did Jesus confront the Pharisees with their own wicked purposes? And, what was Jesus doing while the Pharisees were hunting His life with bitter hatred? Answer: With the question whether it was lawful on the Sabbath day to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill. And, He was saving life and bringing happiness to multitudes. Song: Let s learn another scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Jeremiah! Jeremiah 29:11-14 (KJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, (2 x) saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (2 x) And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. Jeremiah 29:11 through 14 In the healing of the withered hand, Jesus condemned the custom of the Jews, and left the fourth commandment standing as God had given it. "It is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days," He declared. By sweeping away the senseless restrictions of the Jews, Christ honored the Sabbath, while those who complained of Him were dishonoring God's holy day. {DA 287.2} Question: What was done by Jesus in the healing of the withered hand? And how did Christ honor the Sabbath, while those who complained of Him were dishonoring God's holy day? Answer: Jesus condemned the custom of the Jews, and left the fourth commandment standing as God had given it. And, by sweeping away the senseless restrictions of the Jews He declared, "It is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days". Those who hold that Christ abolished the law teach that He broke the Sabbath and justified His disciples in doing the same. Thus they are really taking the same ground as did the caviling Jews. In this they contradict the testimony of Christ Himself, who declared, "I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love." John 15:10. Neither the Saviour nor His followers broke the law of the Sabbath. Christ was a living representative of the law. No violation of its holy precepts was found in His life. Looking upon a nation of witnesses who were seeking occasion to condemn Him, He could say unchallenged, Which of you convinceth me of sin?" John 8:46 {DA 287.3} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#140 (8.15.15) Page 3

Question: What do those who hold that Christ abolished the law teach? And, how do they contradict in this the testimony of Christ Himself? Answer: They teach that He broke the Sabbath and justified His disciples in doing the same. Thus they are really taking the same ground as did the caviling Jews. And, when He declared, "I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love." Song: Let s learn another scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Proverbs! Proverbs 3:1-7 (KJV) (2 x) My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (2 x) Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:1 through 7 The Saviour had not come to set aside what patriarchs and prophets had spoken; for He Himself had spoken through these representative men. All the truths of God's word came from Him. But these priceless gems had been placed in false settings. Their precious light had been made to minister to error. God desired them to be removed from their settings of error and replaced in the framework of truth. This work only a divine hand could accomplish. By its connection with error, the truth had been serving the cause of the enemy of God and man. Christ had come to place it where it would glorify God, and work the salvation of humanity. {DA 287.4} Question: Where did all truths of God's word come from? And, what had Christ come to do with the Truth? Answer: From Chris Himself, He had spoken through these representative men. And, Christ had come to place it where it would glorify God, and work the salvation of humanity. Song: Let s learn our last scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Deuteronomy! Deuteronomy 4:5-6 (KJV) Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. Keep therefore and do [them]; for this [is] your wisdom your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation [is] a wise and understanding people. Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 2-We Shall Have No Other Gods Narrated by our dear Brother Graves! Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3. {SD 56.1} The ten commandments, Thou shalt, and Thou shalt not, are ten promises assured to us if we render obedience to the law governing the universe. {SD 56.2} There is not a moral precept enjoined in any part of the Bible which is not engraved with the finger of God in His holy law on the two tables of stone. A copy was given to Moses on Mount Sinai. The first four commandments enjoined upon man his duty to serve the Lord our God with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the mind, and with all the strength. This takes the whole man. This requires a love so fervent, so intense, that man can cherish nothing in his mind or affections in rivalry with God; and his works will bear the signature of heaven. Everything is secondary to the glory of God. Our heavenly Father is to be ever cherished as the first, the joy and prosperity, the light and sufficiency of our life, and our portion forever. {SD 56.3} Let men worship and serve the Lord God, and Him only. Let not selfish pride be lifted up and served as a god. Let not money be made a god. If sensuality is not kept under the control of the higher powers of the mind, base passion will rule the being. Anything that is made the subject of undue thought and admiration, absorbing the mind, is a god chosen before the Lord. {SD 56.4} Jehovah, the eternal, self-existent, uncreated One, Himself the source and sustainer of all, is alone entitled to supreme reverence and worship. Man is forbidden to give to any other object the first place in his affections or his service. Whatever we cherish that tends to lessen our love for God or to interfere with the service due Him, of that do we make a god. {SD 56.5} Next Week We will end with part 5 in our lesson entitle, The Sabbath of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
