Restricted Funds for Immaculate Conception, Bangall As we move to the next phase of Making All Things New, we need to address the restricted funds which exist for the Parish of Immaculate Conception, Bangall. In 1998, a campaign was initiated to raise funds for the purpose of building a new Church. Obviously, this plan never materialized, however, there is $200,000.00 in a restricted fund for this purpose. After diligent research for a list of donors, we could not find any records indicating who donated these funds. Therefore, we will be running four notices in the Bulletin, two in November and two in December, to notify any parishioner of Immaculate Conception, Bangall, who wishes to be reimbursed for this donation. The parishioner must show proof of payment to this fund for this specific purpose no later than December 31, 2016. In January 2017, the Archdiocese of New York will petition the Court to release these funds for use. Once released, these funds will be used to pay bills for maintenance and upkeep of the Bangall properties as well as address the costs associated with the demolition of the condemned church building and the paving of a new entrance and exit road to St. Mary s Cemetery. Polish Wigilia (Oplatek) The Christmas Eve Wigilia Supper forms the focal point of the Polish Yuletide customs. Wigilia, which means vigil, commemorates the birth of Jesus. For Polish families, the meal starts when the eastern star appears through the parlor window to serve as a guide to the Birth of Jesus in the same manner as the star of Bethlehem was a guide to the Magi! The meal begins with the ancient tradition of breaking oplatek, a thin wafer, or bread of love. It is passed to the various members of the family who put it to their lips and wish each other Blessings for the upcoming year. These wafers are now available in the Rectory.
