We went to a Garden Party.. Although the day was cold and damp, and all the flowers had not bloomed yet, the Garden Tour on Canaan Street had over 20 eager participants who enjoyed the flowers and the lunch. Hosted by Dr. Paine and Pat Mercer, we saw beautifully landscaped gardens and received an education about the time, effort and skill required to create and maintain them. The kitchen crew provided a pasta salad lunch, while our hosts provided cookies, mini-éclairs, and cream puffs for dessert. Outreach News Fuel Assistance Many of you have expressed concern regarding the plan to close the Fuel Assistance office in Lebanon. We have been in touch with the main office of Tri County CAP in Berlin and with the manager of the Ashland office. Both people that we spoke with have assured us that there will be someone from the Fuel Assistance program in the Lebanon office at least 2 days each month to accept applications. We have also discussed having someone from the Fuel Assistance program come to the Mascoma Area Senior Center to help with applications. Tri County CAP staff have also stated that they will accept faxed, mailed and emailed applications from residents of this area. If I can be helpful to anyone wanting to apply for fuel assistance please let me know. Carol Dustin

Medical appointments please call as soon as you know your appointment dates to help us coordinate the bus or a volunteer. Home Delivered meals: Please call to let us know if you are not going to be home to receive your meal(s). Please call as soon as possible. Messages of cancellation may be left on ext. 105 or general voice mail. Frozen or extra hot meals will be sent in anticipation of bad weather. Please remember to keep a frozen meal on hand in case we are unable to deliver. When the center is closed there will be no programs or services. for closing on WMUR-Channel 9, WMUR.com and local radio stations. Volunteers Needed Grafton County Senior Citizens Council/ Mascoma Area Senior Center is actively looking for Volunteer Drivers to deliver meals to our Home Delivered meal participants in the areas of Canaan, Enfield, Enfield Center & Grafton. If interested please call: 603-523-4333. (Registration is required) WELCOME BACK CAROL DUSTIN It s a pleasure to see Carol Dustin back in Canaan at MASC. Many of you knew her when she served as our social worker and now that she has returned to fill the Outreach Worker position, it s a good time to get a little better acquainted with her. Carol was born in Rutland, Vermont, lived in Lancaster, New Hampshire, from age three to twelve, them back to Rutland. She attended the University of New Hampshire for undergraduate studies and went on to the University of Connecticut for graduate work. She married Clarke Dustin, who was a guidance director at Hanover High School, and they have four children and seven grandchildren. In her leisure time Carol enjoys reading and knitting (two activities which are also favorites of this writer and probably many of you too). Carol s entire career has been with organizations that are devoted to helping the elderly and the disadvantaged. She was director of the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council for nineteen years; and after retiring from that post she served as the Social Worker at MASC. She went from here to Lebanon to take a position with Service Link and now we are happy to see her back in Canaan in the role of Outreach Worker. Welcome back, Carol. Food Pantry Available by appointment to residents of Canaan, Orange, Enfield, Grafton and Dorchester. The Food Panty accepts donations of non-perishable food items in their unopened, original containers. We have a large supply of personal care products such as bar soap, adult & child disposable underwear. Please call and leave a message at Ext. 106. A volunteer from the pantry will return your call.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENING AT THE BISTRO June 12, 2015 was an evening to honor and thank all our wonderful volunteers. The dining room was transformed into a wonderland of trees, vines, lights and the Leaning Tower of Pisa (with the moon). The Italian theme dinner of Stuffed Shells, Garlic Bread, Green Beans, and Lemon Mousse, served family style on red-checked covered tables, was enjoyed by all.. So, whether they drove Home Delivered Meals, packed the coolers, wrapped silverware, washed & set tables, served meals in the dining room, answered phones or helped out in the many little (but important) ways that enable us to serve the needs of our participants, what they do is necessary and appreciated. We truly could not operate without you!
