Silver Creek United Methodist Church 2200 Church Road, Azle Texas 76020 817-444-1382 www.silvercreekumc.org Dr. Vaughn Baker, Pastor Loving God, Loving People, Serving the Community From The Pastor: Loving God, Loving People, Serving the Community, that's our stated vision here at Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Loving God means with our prayers, presence, and gi s. We love others and the community with our service and our witness. Its always helpful to regularly review and repeat our vows of Chris an discipleship to make sure we are doing them. Truth be known we as human beings tend to forget--we suffer from short memories! Prophets in scripture constantly called the people of God to remember and to return to the God who made them and who redeemed them. We need reminding of who we are! Second, we tend to dri backwards! Seldom do we dri forward. Forward mo on in life and faith happens with much resolu on and commitment. Backward movement, aka backsliding, happens when we forget the God who made and saved us. that same God is the One who also leads us into paths of righteousness, to green and pleasant pastures. Read the 23rd Psalm! So in the hot and sleepy days of Summer remember to keep on keeping on in doing the things God has called you to do. And since you can't be a follower of Jesus alone I look forward to seeing you this Sunday! Vaughn

Everyone is invited to come by for a look at the updated room. We are asking the kids to help name our room. So, kids come with a suggestion for a new name and bring a friend on Sunday, August 27th. Why did God make music? There may be a lot of reasons we can think of. Music has been used for entertainment, social gatherings, therapeu c treatment, military, ritual ceremony, etc. But what does the Bible say about music? What kind of music should we have in worship? And why? This is the ques on that I had and mo vated me to decide to study music ministry at the Southwestern Bap st Theological Seminary. Before seminary life, I used to put my career and degree as my priority. I used to think the reason I studied music was to glorify God, but all that I had done was to focus on my career. What God wants me to do for Him was not my center of a en on but asked God to help me to conquer the music world so that I could glorify God with a big name. I was blinded by worldly fame. However, one day I experienced the importance of spending me alone with God in quiet and uninterrupted communion. I began to see why He made the universe, me, and music. The answer is clearly indicated in the Scripture passage, Isaiah 43:21 the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise (ESV). God made us so that He can be praised. That s the reason we are here. We stand in awe not because of who we are but because of who He is. God made music for His glory. We adore Him just because Who He is, our Creator, our Father, Protector, Provider, and Shelter. God does not need anything tangible and spectacular to be glorified but simply our hearts focused toward Him. The apostle Paul, who wrote a le er to the Chris ans in Colossae while in prison, made it so clear. He encouraged them to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God (Col. 3:16). My prayer has been changed since the me I focused on myself: Dear Lord, please transform me into the person you originally created me to be. My values have changed, and my priori es are reordered. The one concentrated passion of the life was my career and having a good name as a composer; but now it is to praise Him and minister to people through music. I want to invite you all to the one of the most amazing opportuni es at Silver Creek: Hymn Singing Fes val on Sunday Aug 27 th 6:00 PM. We praise our Lord Jesus Christ together as the Psalmist confessed that I may dwell in the house of the L all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of the L Psalm 27:4 (ESV). God shall be glorified when we call out His name and call upon the name of Jesus in singing hymns and spiritual songs. I look forward to seeing you, your families, and friends. -Da Jeong C.
