Cross of Glory & West Freeborn Lutheran Churches Hartland, MN Sunday Morning Worship times: Cross of Glory service is each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Sunday School begins at 10:15 a.m. West Freeborn service is each Sunday at 10:30 am. Please come early for coffee before the worship service. Sunday School begins at 9:15 a.m. From: Pastor Mark Hillmer A Healing Church The Transition Team has been talking about our two churches participating more fully in the healing ministry. We already are a healing church: where the Word and Sacrament are regularly offered, there is healing for the heart and mind and soul, and where those are helped, the body is also healed. We have no idea how much healing takes place within a Christian community, how many diseases are warded off just by being exposed to the good news which is the Gospel or how many physically-debilitating illnesses are avoided because sins are freely and richly forgiven. Good news refreshes the body, says the Good Book. (Prov. 15:30 NRSV) We also have prayer chains and we pray for people on Sundays. To show that healing has always been a part of the church s ministry one need look no farther than Matthew 10:1, Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority to cure every disease and every sickness though if you wanted, one could find more passage in both the Old and New Testaments that proclaim God as the source of healing and that His people are to be involved in it. Our newest hymnal has a short service for healing that the churches may use if they desire to have anointing with oil as part of a Sunday service. In one church I have served it was done once a month on a Sunday morning. Another way is to have a special service on a Sunday evening (or any evening) where a special healing service takes place. How does a church get into the healing ministry? It agrees to take on the challenge of faith by stepping out in faith and anointing with oil. And then we keep praying until God hears. Pastor Mark

Joint Council Meeting Cross of Glory & West Freeborn March 3, 2015 Cross of Glory s president Jerry Morstad called the meeting to order. Present were: Jerry Morstad, Randy Light, Dave Ausen, Becky Ausen, Pat Ehrich, Paul Lynne, Matt Hoelscher, Cathy Crowe, Milo Madson, Steve Ausen, Mike Ehrich, Doug Jacobs, Mark Broskoff, Mike Brekke, Tim Bartness, Ron Bartness, Orlen Modene, Sonja Honstad, Bob Indrelie JoAnn Spooner, and Rachel Knudson. Pastor Mark led the councils in devotion. The secretary s report from the last Joint Council meeting was read by Becky Ausen. There was a correction to address a mis-communication about worship service times. On the 26 th of April, we are exchanging times so that Cross of Glory s confirmation service at 10:30 a.m. can be followed by a meal. Minutes were approved with the minor correction. Old Business: Matt Hoelscher will be cutting down the three crab apple trees on the parsonage lawn Saturday, March 7 th. Anyone who wants to assist is welcome to help. There is also an evergreen tree they will be evaluating for removal. New Business: Cross of Glory has a treasurer, as JoAnn Spooner has accepted the position. She will work with Jon Stelter and Pat Ehrich to learn the methodology they use to pay bills. The church employees have typically been paid once a month. Cindi has asked to be paid twice a month. Corky Modene offered to chat with Cindi We are considering having Cross of Glory and West Freeborn s treasurer pay her once a month but two weeks apart. We then finished the joint meeting to reconvene in our respective councils. West Freeborn Lutheran Church Council Meeting March 3, 2015 The West Freeborn Church Council met on Mar. 3, 2015, following the joint council meeting at Cross of Glory. President Orlen Modene called the meeting to order. Present were: Pat Ehrich, Mike Ehrich, Mark Broskoff, Steve Ausen, Orlen Modene, Sonja Honstad, Bob Indrelie, Milo Madson, Dave Ausen, Doug Jacobs, Pastor Hillmer and Becky Ausen. Secretary s report was read by Becky. Motion was made by Bob to approve the secretary s report. Sonja seconded it. Motion. Carried. Pat read the treasurer s report. Motion was made by Steve to accept the port as read. Doug seconded it. Motion carried. Old Business: Some of the parts have arrived for the furnace but we are waiting for all of them to come in to fix it. It was talked about taking some of the women s fund to get speakers for the new social hall. Mark Broskoff will check on how many are needed for the area. He will then get together with Orlen and they will discuss how to proceed. Pat talked about the benevolence fund. The 2013 Thrivent Funds were used to pay different organizations that we support and around $500 was left over. Mark made a motion to use that approximate $500 towards the benevolence fund. Steve seconded it. Motion carried. It was decided to pay the Blue Earth River Conference 10 cents per member. Pat will take care of this. We need a letter form for a non-emergency number for the lift. Orlen will check on this. New Business: The remodeling is coming along really well. The painting is done, cabinets will be put in Friday and the railings have been put on temporarily. We need to find someone to put the carpet that was torn

out of the Sunday School rooms and put on the ramp area and the steps that were built going to the basement area. It was discussed how the front entry was needing new flooring. Dave made a motion that we put new flooring in the front entryway. Sonja seconded it. Motion carried. Dates for church clean-up are March 21 st and March 28 th. Pat made a motion to accept the bid from Jensen s for the septic system. Steve seconded it. Motion carried. Pat made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Milo seconded it. Motion carried. Closed with the Lord s Prayer. Respectfully submitted, Becky Ausen, Secretary Cross of Glory Trustees and Deacons Meeting March 3, 2015 Jerry Morstad called the second half of the meeting to order. Lyle Bird was absent. Rachel Knudson read the secretary s report. The minutes were approved as read. We formally welcomed JoAnn Spooner as the treasurer for the council. We went over the treasurer s report and Paul Lynne made a motion to approve the report and pay bills as money allows. Randy Light seconded. Old Business: 1. The trustees and deacons will be hosting the meal before the Lenten service on March 11 th. Ron has ordered meat from Conger. Jill Morstad will be bringing coleslaw. The rest of us will bring bars and drinks. New Business: 1. We received a letter from the Manchester Hartland Telephone Company that there will be an annual board meeting on March 19 th. 2. JoAnn had some questions about the treasurer s job. Jon has met with Cindi once to talk about paying bills. Randy Light made a motion to authorize JoAnn Spooner as a signer on the Cross of Glory accounts as treasurer of the trustees. Ron Bartness seconded. The minutes will have to be taken to the bank so they will allow her to sign. 3. The file cabinets in the office are rather full. We discussed some of the contents and whether they should be retained. 4. There is a light fixture flickering in the altar area of the sanctuary. Paul says he has a tall ladder. We don t have any extra bulbs as we already used the one extra to replace a flickering bulb upon initial installation. 5. The snow removal folks are doing a great job. Tim Bartness made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Randy Light seconded. Closed with the Lord s Prayer.
