SUNDAY LET S PRAY Dear Father, thank You for Your promises in the Bible. Help me to draw comfort and strength from them. Please come into my heart and change me so I can be a light for You. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 13:1 16 2

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS From our reading today we learnt that the Children of Israel arrived at the border of the Promised Land at a place called Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Paran. God wanted Moses to send out twelve spies into the land of Canaan, one from each tribe. These are the names of the men who were to go spy out the land: Shammua, Shaphat, Caleb, Igal, Hoshea (also known as Joshua), Palti, Gaddiel, Gaddi, Ammiel, Sethur, Nahbi and Geuel. Have you spied out the heavenly Promised Land? Read Isaiah 65:17 25 and Revelation 21 22. UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 13:3 So Moses sent them the LORD from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of the, all of them Children who were heads of the men of Israel. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 3

MONDAY LET S PRAY Dear Father, thank You for my family. Help me to appreciate the things they do for me. Thank You for my Bible. Help me now to understand what I read and to be able to apply it in the way I live my life for you. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 13:17 33 4

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS Today we read that Moses sent the twelve spies into the land of Canaan to find out as much as possible about the land before God s people went in. They entered from the South and explored all of the Promised Land. They were away for forty days and they brought back the wonderful news that the land was very productive and fertile, telling them the land flowed with milk and honey! They brought back some of the produce from the land of Canaan. Verse 23 tells us they carried a bunch of grapes on a pole between two men. That must have been an amazing sight! But ten of the spies give a bad report in relation to their ability to take over the land. They told the Children of Israel that the land devours its inhabitants and is filled with fortified cities and giants. The ten spies who gave a bad report lost sight of God s power. They became discouraged at the obstacles in the way and forgot how God had led them in the past, so much so that they ended up lying to the Children of Israel. We know from previous studies what trouble a lie can bring. Always remember that no matter how bad things look, we need to trust God! UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 13:27 Then they told him this, and said: We went to the where flows you sent us. It truly land with honey and milk, and is its fruit. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 5

TUESDAY LET S PRAY Dear Lord, thank You for all You do for me and help me not to forget the loving care You give me. Help me to trust You more and have greater faith in Your Word. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 14:1 20 6

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS Today the Bible told us that the Israelites believed the ten spies and their bad report and complained against the leadership of Moses and Aaron. They wanted to elect a new leader and go back to Egypt! They lost their faith and trust in God. Only Joshua and Caleb two spies out of the twelve stood firm with their faithful report. They believed and trusted that God would deliver them. They pleaded with the Children of Israel not to rebel, but to believe that God would be with them when they went into the Promised Land. The Israelites were so angry with them that they wanted to stone Joshua and Caleb, but God saved them by showing His glory and power by a flaming light in the Sanctuary. Then the people, who were going to stone them, ran away. Verses 11 and 12 tell us that God was not happy with the Children of Israel and wanted to disinherit them. But God heard Moses prayers for the Israelites and forgave them. What amazing love! Think about what Moses did. God made Him an offer, to make him a greater nation than the Israelites. But Moses was so Christ-like in his love for the people, despite their sins and shortcomings, that he put himself aside and interceded for them, putting them first. Do you put yourself aside for others? UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 14:7 And they spoke to all the children of Israel of the, saying: The land we passed through to out is an congregation exceedingly spy good land. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 7

WEDNESDAY LET S PRAY Dear Father, I praise Your Name! You are mighty to save! Thank You for Your tender care for me. Help me not to be selfish and think only about myself but to think of others. Thank You for my Bible, please help me to understand what I read. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 14:21 45 8

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS From our Bible reading today we find that, because of the Israelites sin of refusing to go into the Promised Land and trying to stone Joshua and Caleb, God turned them back into the wilderness for forty years. Everyone above twenty years old would die in the wilderness. Only the children below twenty years, as well as Joshua and Caleb, would enter into the Promised Land. The ten spies who gave the bad report died of the plague because of their unfaithfulness. Verse 39 tells us that the Children of Israel mourned greatly, but it was not sincere. They decided to go up and take the land of Canaan, hoping to reverse God s judgment. But they went without prayer, or Moses, or the Ark of the Covenant. It was a disaster and many people died in a battle with the Amalekites and the Canaanites. The Israelites were not to fight for the land in their own strength but God would be with them to fight for them. God wanted them to learn to obey Him. The Children of Israel had proved they were not ready to enter the Promised Land. God needed more time to work on their hearts; thus He gave them more time in the wilderness. Ask God to fight your battles for you every day. UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 14:30 Except for Joshua the son of Jephunneh and Caleb the son of Nun, you shall by no which I swore I would means enter the land make you dwell in. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 9

THURSDAY LET S PRAY Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus, who came to die for my sins. Please forgive me and help me to surrender my heart to You. Please fight my battles for me and help me to lean on You more. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 16:1 24 10

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS In the Bible today we read about the story of Korah. Korah was actually a cousin of Moses and he, being part of the Levi family, was appointed to serve in the Sanctuary. But something was brewing in his heart. He was not happy with his position he wanted Aaron s position. He wanted to be part of the priesthood. Dathan and Abiram, who also led out in the rebellion for the leadership, were from the tribe of Reuben. They gathered 250 sympathizers to go up against Moses and Aaron. They had forgotten one thing. It was God leading them through the cloud - not Moses and Aaron. Moses told Korah that he and his 250 sympathizers had to stand in the court of the Sanctuary with fire and incense in their censers and God would show who was able to serve as priests in the Sanctuary. We have looked at this before, in devotional number three and four, but I want to visit it again as it s a good reminder for us, as to what happens when someone gets the I disease. Have a look at these verses. Genesis 4:1 15, Isaiah 14:12 14 and Revelation 12:7 9. UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 16:17 Let each take his and fifty censer and put Aaron in it, and each of you bring his censer before the LORD, two hundred censers; both you and incense, each with his censer. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 11

FRIDAY LET S PRAY Dear Father, thank You for keeping me safe during the week and taking care of my needs. Help me to be helpful and kind and thoughtful towards others. I love You Lord. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 16:25 50 12

LET S THINK ABOUT THIS Korah, Dathan and Abiram wanted the leadership because they wanted to do things a better way. They did not want God pointing out their sins. They did not want to humble themselves, repent and accept the path God had for them. God opened up the ground and swallowed Korah, Dathan and Abiram. The 250 sympathisers, who dared to presume they could serve as priests instead of Aaron and his sons, were destroyed by fire from heaven. They were well aware of the situation of Nadab and Abihu. They knew God was a Holy God and there were certain requirements to be able to serve God in the Sanctuary. Verse 41 tells us that the people complained again. They purposed in their hearts to kill Moses and Aaron. God was not happy. A plague fell on the children of Israel in which 14,700 people died. Moses and Aaron interceded and the plague was stopped. These stories are not here to frighten or scare us but to humble us and to help us to realize that we cannot fight God. We are told that if Korah, Dathan and Abiram had repented, God would not have destroyed them. The 250 sympathisers witnessed this and had time to repent, but again they chose not to and were destroyed. God loves us very much and gives us every opportunity to turn our hearts back to Him. Have you given your heart to Him today? UNSCRAMBLE THIS VERSE - NUMBERS 16:50 So returned to Moses at of the tabernacle of the door meeting, for the plague had Aaron stopped. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY WITH THE KING? 13

SABBATH LET S PRAY Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the Sabbath Day when I can rest from the busyness of my week and spend time with You. Help me to learn more about You today. Thank You for my Bible. In Jesus name, Amen. MEMORY VERSE - ISAIAH 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever... THERE S POWER IN THE WORD! LET S READ: Numbers 17:1 13 14

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK God wanted to settle, once and for all, who His elected High Priest was. God asked Moses to collect a rod from each of the twelve tribes of Israel and put their names on them. They were to be placed in the Tabernacle before the Lord. The next day Aaron s rod was the only one that had budded; it even had blossoms and almonds on it! Verse 10 tells us it was to go into the Ark of the Covenant to be a sign forever that God had chosen Aaron and his family to serve as priests in the Sanctuary. The Israelites finally repented and accepted God s plan for them to go back in to the wilderness. Our study this week has given us a lot to think about. The Children of Israel lost sight of Gods leading many times. They rebelled again and again, not wanting to accept Gods way but wanting to do things their way. Each time, Moses interceded on their behalf to save them from utter destruction. Remember that God does not like rebellion because He had experienced it first hand in heaven. He knows the damage and long term consequences that rebellion brings. Despite their murmuring and complaining, God still took care of them. Check out Nehemiah 9:19 21. SABBATH QUIZ 1. How many days were the spies in the Promised Land? 2. What were the three types of fruit the spies brought back? 3. How many spies gave a bad report? 4. Who were the three men who rebelled against Moses and Aaron? 5. Where was Aaron s budded rod stored? 15

This week we will study about a group of 12 men who were given a very important job to do: to spy out the land flowing with milk and honey! Torchlight The people did not wait to reflect; they did not reason that He who had brought them thus far would certainly give them the land; they did not call to mind how wonderfully God had delivered them from their oppressors, cutting a path through the sea and destroying the pursuing hosts of Pharaoh. They left God out of the question, and acted as though they must depend solely on the power of arms. In their unbelief they limited the power of God...
