The Ten Commandments in the New Testament Comm Ref Text 1 2 Matt 04:10 Matt 06:24 Matt 22:37 Luke 04:08 Rom 01:29-31 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 1 Cor 10:20-21 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. 2 Cor 06:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone-- an image made by man's design and skill. And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all. 1 Cor 05:10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 1 Cor 05:11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. 1 Cor 06:09 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 1 Cor 10:07 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." 1 Cor 10:14 Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. 1 Cor 12:02 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 2 Cor 06:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." Gal 05:20 Eph 05:05 Col 03:05 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person-- such a man is an idolater-- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 1 Thess 01:09 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. "Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people. Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment. From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down. As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath." On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work." There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 Page 3 of 10

Rom 07:03 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man. 1 Cor 05:09 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people-- 1 Cor 05:10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person-- such a man is an idolater-- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 1 Thess 04:03 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; Heb 13:04 Jas 02:11 Jude 01:07 Rev 02:21-22 Rev 09:21 Rev 21:08 Rev 22:15 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. With such a man do not even eat. 1 Cor 06:10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 2 Cor 04:02 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. Gal 05:20 Eph 04:25 Eph 05:04 Col 03:08 Col 03:09 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 1 Tim 03:11 In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. Titus 03:02 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. 1 Pet 04:15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 10 Matt 05:43-48 Luke 03:14 Luke 12:15 Rom 01:29-31 Rom 07:07 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?" He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely-- be content with your pay." Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet." 1 Cor 05:10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Tim 06:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Heb 13:05 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." 1 Pet 05:02 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers-- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; Count = 15 Tuesday, March 20, 2007 Page 9 of 10
