Bishop McNamara High School Advanced Placement European History Summer Reading Project 2016 Purpose: The course in Advanced Placement European History is subdivided into four (4) major chronological time periods: Period I (1450 1648), Period II (1648 1815), Period III (1815 1914), and Period IV (1914 Present). Given our schedule at Bishop McNamara, covering all four periods is a daunting task. Because Period I is the longest, I have decided to assign portions of the Period for summer work. This assignment will be used to create an overview of this period to again a better understand of the time, as well as help introduce the history of course better. If the project is completed successfully, this will provide a basis for the course and save us time, allowing us to learn at a reasonable speed for the 2016 2017 academic school year. Objective: (Part I) Students are being assigned to cover material on European history b/w the 15 th & 17 th centuries (1400 1650). First, students are to read several chapters from A History of Western Society 10 th Edition by John McKay et al (AP Edition). Students are to read the following chapters as well as answer section review questions for each chapter section assigned. Responses to questions should be a minimum of 5 7 sentences, BUT some might require more than a paragraph to answer. Students are to employ their best judgement when responding to these questions. As a piece of advice, all responses require relevant details from the chapter AND students must explain the source data in relation to answering the question itself. Student are to provide two (2) or three (3) specific facts or criteria for each person, event, or development within the outline. Information should be in the textbook.
