TWR-Cambodia CHILDREN S MINISTRY April 2012 Report Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 In a country like Cambodia, where the child mortality is among the highest in Asia and where 9 out of 100 children do not reach their 5th birthday, thousands of children are dying every year from tuberculosis, malaria, dengue fever, respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases because there is no adequate medical treatment available. Food for the Children Tro Pang Ro Pao village, Kampot and JJ Center Steng Mean Chey dump On Sunday 1 st April, our team went to Tro Pang Ro Pao village again to visit our listeners and provide food to those children. There were 92 children who came that morning. The church members helped to cook pork soup with the rice. The children loved to take the food home as they want to share it with the rest of their family. On Sunday 15 th April, we cooked for the children at JJ Center, garbage dump. At these two places we are partnering with JOC. It was a great time to share Christ s blessings with these children by not only telling them a Bible story, singing songs to praise God, teaching them a health lesson, listening to the HCG program, but also feeding them in their physical need. There were 78 children at JJ Center that morning. All of them were happy to take the food home and share it with their family. We were very thankful to the Lord for His providing the funding from De Overzijde Foundation in Netherlands to feed the children. From Chenda Chenda is 33 years old and lives in a village outside Phnom Penh city. She heard of the HCG program of TWR-Cambodia through her co-worker. She is very interesting to the program as she had been looking for the materials to reach out to the children in her village. One day, Chenda decided to come to visit TWR office in order to look for more information. She was very happy to get a speaker box with several HCG programs on it. Chenda started to use the HCG program to form a listening group at her home. One evening, after all the children in the village finished their public school time, they came to listen to the HCG program at her house. She was so happy that these children were able to hear the good news of Jesus Christ including their families because the children go home and share the stories with their parents. Chenda prays and believes that one day these children will open their hearts Chenda and Bros receiving salvation from Jesus. Please pray for Chenda to have strength and good health as she teaches the children. Pray also for the children as they come to listen to the HCG program, pray for God s wisdom upon them and pray for God to open their hearts to know Him. Page 2
2. From Sophorn Sophorn is 38 years old, and lives at a village in Prey Veng province. At her church, she leads the children to listen to the HCG program once a week. She has a CD player and always requests a CD of HCG programs for the children in her village. We always receive letters from the children in her village. God has blessed Sophorn to have another small group with 30 children as well. Thus another group has started to listen to the HCG program. The children in the new group have started to grow in their faith and are very happy to listen to the HCG program. They hunger to learn the word of God through the stories and are very happy to write letters to the HCG program. They even are happier when they get a reply back from the presenters of the HCG program team. Accidently, a mouse cut and broke her CD player so the groups were not able to listen to the program for a while until one day Sophorn was able to come to Phnom Penh and stop by the TWR office. When she heard of the speaker box, Sophorn was very happy to request a speaker box for the children in her groups. She said it s very easy to carry it from one group to another, and the battery is rechargeable. Sophorn said, HCG program is like a seed that we planted for the Lord. I believe that through the good news in this program these children will receive the salvation of Jesus Christ and get to know the Savior. Thank you so much to the HCG program and TWR team, which is very helpful to Sunday school teachers in the rural areas, likes me. God bless you with strength, good health, and growth in everything you do. Please pray for the children in these two villages to have good health, wisdom in study and for the blessings upon their rice fields so they will have food to eat. Please remember Sophorn and her family in your prayers as she is reaching out to the children in those two villages. May God continue to strengthen and prosper her and her family. 3. From Meng Horng My name is Meng Horng, I m 9 years old and I live in Kampong Cham province. I just came to believe in Jesus four months ago. This month, the Sunday school teacher at my church introduced to me and other children to the HCG program. I come to listen to this program at her house. I really like this program because it helps me to know more about my God Jesus who I believe in. I really liked the story of Jacob. Thank you so much for teaching me how to pray. I have a testimony to share with you. After I learned about the power of prayer in the program, one day I have a very bad headache, so I prayed to Jesus. After I finished my prayer, the headache was gone. This is a miracle. Please pray for my parents because I also want them to believe in Jesus. I also want you to come to visit me and other children in my village. God bless you. 4. From Hok Heng My name is Hok Heng and I m 15 years old. I started to listen to HCG program three months ago. I really enjoy listening to this program, and love the health lesson, song, and the Bible story in the program. Today I learned about the symptoms of chickenpox and how to prevent myself from getting this disease. Please pray for my parents as they are building a house. Please pray for God s providing and blessings upon them so we can finish building our house and have a safe place to live. I also want you both to come and visit me at my village. God bless you. 5. From Dima My name is Dima and I m 15 years old. I have listened to the HCG program for about one year now. I come to the pastor s house to listen to this program and I accepted Jesus as my Savior seven months ago. I still seek Him and want to know Him more. The Bible story in the HCG program helps me to know Him and the life of the people in the Bible. I liked the story of the life of Abraham. I learned so much from Abraham s faith and his trust in the Lord. Please pray for me as I want to know more about the true God that I believe in. If you can, please send me a picture Bible. It s such an encouragement to our team when we get feedback from our listeners as we learn about the quality of the program, and how God is using the HCG program to reach out to the children and adults around Cambodia. We are able to see the growth and the changes in the listeners as they learn about different health issues in the program. They have shared with our team about how the health lesson helps them in their daily lives and habits. At the same time, we also see the spiritual growth in them. We see a strong faith in these children and how they love to talk with Jesus in their prayers. We are very encouraged with the testimonies that they share with us. Team Capacity Building: For this month, our team spent one morning together to learn about Active non-violent Communication. Charia learned this lesson from her training at Peace Bridge and she spent that morning sharing this topic with the team members. The lesson encourages us to learn to observe better then evaluate or judge other people. The lesson is based on the Biblical principles. Our team members really enjoyed and were very encouraged by this lesson. It has helped them to understand and get to know the people around them with positive thoughts. Plans for May 2012 1. been using since 2003 is getting very old because we have been using it so much; the van has broken down almost every month over the last two years. I m very grateful for the new things that I learn each month. 3- Praise God for keeping my grandmother in good health and for His comfort upon her as her brother passed away this month. 4- Please pray for my dad as he lives in New Zeeland, pray that he will keep his faith in the Lord and pray for him as he seeks the church to go on Sunday. 5- Pray for my future plan, that I will follow God s direction and guidance. Charia 1- Praise God for the safe trip when Charia brought her dad to Singapore for a biopsy. Praise God for the good result that we got. There is a90% that there is NO cancer. He has TB. Dr. Modich in Cambodia is able to manage his case. Now, he has started to take TB medicine. Please pray for him as he goes to treatment. He is still doing OK right now; the doctor said that for two weeks or three weeks he will get very sick because of the medicine. He will have to take 12 pills one time each morning for two months. After two months, the doctor will reduce the dose of the medicine. Please pray also for God's protection upon the rest of the family and pray for us as we look after Dad. 2- Pray for God s wisdom on Charia as she writes the HCG scripts, and pray for her as she leads the team to fulfill their calling.
