Week #1 Large Group June 8, 2014 Need To Know: I Don t Deserve God s Love But He Still Loves Me Bible Story: 2 Sons (Luke 15:11-32) GAME PREPARATION Tootsie Toss Up Materials needed: (*Duplicate for additional services)! 2 Bins! 2 Cups! Tape (masking or duct)*! 2 Bags of Small Tootsie Rolls*! 2 Giant Tootsie Rolls* Prepare ahead of time:! Place one cup inside each bin.! Tape the bottom of the cup to the bottom inside of the bin so the cup will stay in place inside the bin.! Open the bags of small tootsie rolls. Stage setup for Game:! Zip and Andy will each hold a bin with a cup inside while contestants line up across from them. They should be lined up horizontally on the stage so that no tootsie rolls end up in the audience. How to play:! Contestants will try to toss the small tootsie rolls into the cup that is inside the bin.! There is a surprise at the end of the game the kids get to keep all the tootsie rolls (not just the ones in the cup) AND they get a giant tootsie roll at the end!! Both contestants win! Notes for Game Leader:! Choose at least 2 game contestants When the contestants come up onto stage, allow kids to introduce themselves. Make sure they know how to play the game, and then allow the game to start.! During the instruction video (after Bible lesson), create a line for contestants to stand behind using small pieces of tape (approximately 6 inches).! Pick up tape from floor before acting starts again.
Tie In Teaching Point! Just like the father in the story gave the younger son so much more than he deserved, the contestants were able to keep more tootsie rolls than they deserved. You know what? All of us actually get something that we don t deserve and we can t ever lose. It s God s love! I Don t Deserve God s Love, But He Still Loves Me! Today is a very special day and we are going to get to explore this awesome park!! Before we do that though we need to review just a few rules that we have in CF Kids. These rules are in place to help us stay safe and have a great place to learn about Jesus. If you know them you can say them with me. Rule #1 Respect yourself and others Rule #2 Listen and obey- Rule #3- Be kind and Rule #4 Respect our property. Throughout this new series, we are going to be learning about eight truths from the Bible that will take our relationships with God to a new level...off the rails!!! To start this series, I m going to teach you a brand new song! The name of this song is Holy Is Your Name. Why don t you STAND UP and come down front so we can practice together? (Teach motions below) During the first part, we are going sway our arms over head (demonstrate while saying this) and then we are going to spin, while alternating fist when we say, Higher. Then, we re going to do this: Please stand up with me! Motions: (For 1 st -3 rd Grade Only) I Don t Deserve (shake head no ) God s Love (cross arms across chest) But He (point up) Still Loves Me (point to self)! Awesome job! If you re ready to see all the fun at Beginagin Theme Park, let me hear you scream like you re on a roller coaster! AAAHHHH!!! Let the fun begin! On The Rails Logo and Park Music Zip: WOW! This place is amazing! I am so excited that summer is finally here and the fun is ready to begin! I feel like I haven t had any real fun since last summer break! I earned this ticket from school for having perfect attendance for the past 2 school years. It wasn t easy either! I remember when I accidentally ate raspberries and broke out in a really gross rash all over my face. I am allergic and I wasn t contagious or anything but some of the kids teased me and said I looked like I had leprosy or something. They all laughed and laughed, but look whose laughing now? I am at this theme park for free and they are probably at home mowing the grass and doing chores or something! Hah! Andy enters enthusiastically Andy: (Running in and jumping up and down) AWESOME!!!! This is the BEST place to begin summer vacation! (checking theme park map) I don t know where to begin! Maybe I should ride the Tilt-A-Wheel or maybe I should go on the Roller Screamer Roller Coaster, that sounds pretty thrilling! (noticing Zip) Hey! Zip! I didn t know you were here! Isn t this the coolest place to be? Zip: (Not happy to see him) Buddy? What are YOU doing here? Shouldn t you be home mowing the lawn or something? Andy: (Laughing) Yeah, yeah, I probably should be, but my parents said I could do it later since I got this FREE ticket to come to Beginagin Theme Park. I couldn t just waste this ticket, now could I? (pulling on Beginagin Theme Park Tag and showing it) Zip: YOU got a FREE ticket? Who gave YOU a free ticket? (turning to audience and speaking under his breath) Probably stole it out of the Principals office. I am going to need to make a phone call and let Principal Rivers know that one of her very special FREE tickets has been stolen!)
Andy: (not answering the question and still studying the theme park map) Whoa! Are you going to ride the Train of Terror? It s over there somewhere (pointing off in a direction) Zip: Don t worry about me Buddy! I am going to ride all of the rides. I am not afraid if that s what you re thinking! I may have seemed to be a little bit afraid when we went on that Field Trip to see that Bee Keeper, but that s only because I didn t want to upset the bees. I m not really scared of anything! And if you think I am scared of heights, you re wrong about that too! I didn t want to stand on the top riser during our spring program only because my nose sometimes bleeds when I reach too high of an altitude. It s a medical condition! Andy: (In awe of the entire surroundings) Wow! Maybe later we can go and get some of that cotton candy together later! Zip: (Not interested in spending time with Buddy) I am probably going to be pretty busy today Andy You know going on ALL the rides and everything. Andy: Okay! Well, have fun! See ya later! (Buddy runs off stage in comedic fashion and then pauses and begins running on and off stage acting like he is running to different rides and excited while Zip speaks the following lines) Zip: Boy! It really burns me up to see Andy here! I mean I worked hard all year to earn my ticket and Buddy messed up all year long! He never turned in his homework and just played around the whole year. It s really not fair!! I bet Mr. Fil Finnegan, the owner of this park, was just like me when he was a kid. He probably worked hard in school, got perfect attendance and did everything right and in the end he grew up and began a business that is every kids dream! I wish I could shake that guy s hand one day! Andy: (Slides in out of breath) Whoa! Are you still here? Isn t it great? This place is so much fun!!! Did you hear about the contest that the owner of this theme park is having? There is going to be a contest and the winner will win season passes to Beginagin Theme Park. Just imagine that! Tickets for a whole year!!!!! Zip: (Excited at the though of winning himself) That sounds Off The Rails! Andy: Yep! And I am going to win those season tickets! Zip: YOU? I wouldn t be so sure of that Andy. I think when Mr. Fil Finnegan meets me and sees that I am a very hard worker he will want me to win! Andy: (Cracking up) Awwww Zip! Lighten up! The owner of this park wants people to have FUN!!! And that is exactly what I plan on having. (Suddenly distracted by an imaginary ice cream stand off stage) Hey! Ice Cream!!!!!! Hey!!! I ll take a Nutty Buddy!!!! (Runs off stage) Zip: Oh that kid is never going to win anything! He is just playing around. I, on the other hand, plan on winning those FREE season passes. I am going to see if I can meet Mr. Fil Finnegan and see if he wants me to help him with ticket sales or sweeping or something. (Exit stage) Bible Lesson and Game Instruction Video

Off The Rails Graphic and Theme Park Music Zip: (enters looking so tired and carrying a large plastic garbage bag.) Man! This stinks! I am sick of cleaning and working around here. This is supposed to be a fun place to be and all I ve been doing is working and working. I hope Mr. Finegan appreciates all that I ve been doing around here! Andy: (Enters eating a big batch of Cotton Candy) Ohhhhh brother! I think I have a stomach ache!!! Oh! Hey Zip Zip: Where have you been? Andy: Where have I been? I think the best question is where have I NOT been? I think I ve ridden every ride and tried every snack this place has to offer and now I think I need to take a nap! I tried winning that contest and did my best getting all those tootsie rolls into the bin. I guess we will just have to see if I won. I think they are going to announce the winner of the season passes soon. Zip: Sorry Andy but I ve been working really hard while you ve been off playing and I am sure Mr. Fil Finegan will want to reward ME with those season passes to Beginigin Park. I earned my ticket here today and I think I ve earned those season tickets too! Andy: Maybe. ANNOUNCEMENT MADE FROM OFFSTAGE ANNOUNCER: Ladies and Gentlemen and boys and girls of Beginigin Park! Mr. Finegan has just announced the winner of today s challenge. The winner is.andy ANDERSON!!! Please come to the ticket counter to pick up 2 season passes! Zip: What? How can that be???? I ve worked so hard and done everything I could to make Mr. Fil Finegan reward me! How could you win? All you ve done is ridden rides and eaten cotton candy! That s not fair! Andy: Yeah! I can t believe it!!! I am so excited! Zip: I am going to tell Mr. Fil Finegan exactly what I think! I have been working the whole time you ve been playing around. Andy: You know Zip you re right. You ve done everything right and I ve just played around. I wish I could be more like you. I make mistakes all the time. You know I m kind of like that brother we were hearing about in today s Bible Story. You know the one who was foolish and spent all of his father s money? The father forgave him and welcomed
him home even after he made all those mistakes. He received blessings even though he didn t deserve them. That s just like God too. He forgives me and I don t deserve God s love, but He still loves me. Zip: (Feeling convicted) You know something Andy you re right! That Bible story reminds me that God loves me and forgives me even when I don t deserve it. I ve been pretty mean to you and I am sorry. I thought I was better than you, but God loves us all! I m glad you won those tickets. I hope you have a great summer! See ya Andy: Hey! Wait a minute Zip! Where are you going? The prize for the contest I won was for two season passes and I am only one person! I d like to give you the other one! Zip: Why would you do that for me? I don t deserve it!!! Andy: My point exactly! Let s go get our tickets! Host/Worship Leader enters. HOST/WORSHIP LEADER: 1. Did Andy do anything to deserve free park tickets? (No. Zip didn t make all A s and wasn t always good, but he/she still got invited to the park anyways.) 2. What else happened that Andy didn t deserve? (He/she got free cotton candy, free 3D glasses and an invite to a VIP party.) 3. Just like Andy got these things that he/she didn t deserve, we get God s love even though we don t deserve it. There is nothing we can ever do to earn or take away God s love for us! 4. And that s what we need to know today! You guys say this after me in your silliest voices... Because God loves us even though we do not deserve it, we can live our life in victory knowing God will always be here with us.
