Clemmons, Pastor of First Church of God In Christ, Brooklyn, New York. The Rev. Dr. Joseph D Clemmons, Sr., is the third appointed Pastor of Historic First Church of God in Christ, 221 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. He succeeded the late Bishop Ithiel C. Clemmons (his eldest brother), and the Founder - the late Bishop Frank Clemmons, (his father). Dr. Joseph Clemmons also Pastors and is the Founder of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ of Norwalk, Connecticut. As a preacher, Dr. Clemmons was ordained by Bishop O.M. Kelly in 1952. He was inducted into the Morehouse College of Preachers in 1988. Dr. Joseph Clemmons is a visionary and called "man of God", who fervently works to serve the needs of people both within and outside the walls of the Church. Dr. Joseph Clemmons is a certified teacher of Spanish. He retired from teaching in June 1979 to devote all his time to the ministry. He earned His Master of Divinity Degree from Yale Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School. Dr. Joseph Clemmons is a Past President of The Hampton University Ministers' Conference in Hampton, VA. He continues to serve on its Executive Board. Dr. Joseph Clemmons was appointed Associate Justice of the Judiciary Board of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. in December 2004. Dr. Joseph Clemmons is doing what he loves most - addressing issues of social injustice and serving as an agent of change in an increasingly unjust society. He does this through both preaching and politics. Dr. Joseph Clemmons was first elected to public office in November 1995 as a member of the Norwalk (Connecticut) Common Council. He was elected as State Representative from the 140th District in a special election in February 1997 and was re-elected in November 1998. He was Past President, Hampton University's Minister's Conference. Dr. Joseph Clemmons is married to the former Frankie Marie Collier. They have five children and eleven grandchildren.
