Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word October 11, 2015 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mount Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 2 MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! Kingdomtide August 30 - November 28, 2015 (The pulpit attire is green) We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 30 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. Theme For This Quarter: THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY COMES ALIVE The study of this quarter is focused on the material from Acts as a narrative of the early church. Acts gives us a glimpse into the life of the community of disciples and shows how the gospel was spread through such a community through the power of the Holy Spirit to all nations. UNIT 2 -- THE CHALLENGES OF THE COMMUNITY The five lessons in this unit show how the church endured growing pains when different challenges presented themselves outside the boundaries of Jerusalem. October 18, 2015 NEXT WEEK S LESSON: Peter Takes A Risk Acts 10:24-38 It is very natural for humans to show partiality to some and not to others. What are some possibilities when a person risks being open and welcoming to all? Peter s recognition that God shows no partiality allowed him to tell the Good News to the Gentiles. Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). * MONDAY: God s Love Prevails Romans 8:31-39 * TUESDAY: Peter Takes a Risk Matthew 14:22-33 * WEDNESDAY: Lord of the Sabbath Matthew 12 1-8 * THURSDAY: Peter is Stretched Acts 10:1-16 * FRIDAY: Peter Follows Through Acts 10:17-23 * SATURDAY: God is For All Acts 10:39-48 * SUNDAY: Peter Takes A Risk Acts 10:24-38 Sermon Highlights HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! October 4, 2015 Title: Overwhelmed But Still Moving Forward Text: Psalm 61 Main Idea: There will come a time in our lives when our hearts will be overwhelmed. In order to move forward when your heart is overwhelmed you must: Points: 1) Pray to God to lead you. 2) Rest in God. 3) Decide to praise God anyhow. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00; DVDs $10.00 MOBC Bible Institute The Fall 2015 semester of the Bible Institute will resume on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. INTERCESSORY PRAYER Sick & Shut-ins Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Jeremiah 32:27 William Barber Muriel Coleman Gilford Floyd Mildred Hardy John Harris, Jr. Doris Harris Alice Mitchell Bertha Mesmain October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual campaign that aims to increase knowledge and awareness of the disease. A closer look at the staggering stats about breast cancer reveal why this is an important cause to so many people. According to the American Cancer Society, every 2 minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer -that s everything from stage zero cancer (which some doctors believe shouldn t even be called cancer) to the deadliest form: invasive breast cancer. The cancer organization also estimates that 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States this year. And an estimated 2,350 new cases will be diagnosed in men. October is Clergy Appreciation Month and the perfect time to commit to praying for and encouraging our ministers on a regular basis. God s word calls us to support clergy. In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, we are told: And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love. As we celebrate Clergy Appreciation Month join me in thanking God for our Ministerial Staff. Rev. Evelyn Beard Rev. Janice B. Corbett Rev. 1. Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that's focused toward their developmental abilities? 2. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God's Word together. 3. It's Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids. 4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child. 5. Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts of Scripture point to Christ. 6. Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child's faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests. 7. Big Reward For a Small Investment: If you're already coming to church, just come a little earlier or stay a little later. 8. Send the Right Message: Making Sunday School a priority shows your kids that God's Word really does matter. 9. Adult Bible Fellowship: While the children enjoy their class, you can fellowship with other adults in your own Bible study group. 10. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
