The Chaplain writes Anyone looking at our website, or our facebook page - and I would heartily recommend a regular look - can be in no doubt that we do a lot at St Boniface. Certainly since Bishop Robert introduced Bishop Norman to us in December, we have all been very busy. Their visit was a happy occasion, and a historic moment in the Diocese in Europe. Christmas was a joy, and this year began earlier than usual with a children's crib service complete with dancing stars! Our Christmas worship was offered in that beauty of holiness, which can only be achieved by a devoted team of cleaners, servers and singers. Then the confirmation... Over many weeks, our eleven young people came together to study the faith - supported by their families a n d t h e p r a y e r s o f t h e congregation. At the confirmation service which was help on Candlemas, their responses were confident, and the atmosphere one of happy celebration. A great buffet and party rounded off the day. Most recently, the fundraising lunch for elderly people in Uganda was a great success, thanks to the devoted work of Stellah and her helpers in the Mothers Union g r o u p. A l l t h i s a c t i v i t i y i s encouraging and shows us just how much we can do together. Now we have a couple of weeks break before Lent begins. Then we take time out to reflect on our faith and what it means to live the Christian life. Do make every effort to ensure that this Lent really touches each one of us, and enriches our common life. Perhaps you will come to an extra service in the week - there are plenty to choose from! Or you may resolve to prepare more thoroughly for those services you already attend.. Remember, you should always be saying your private prayers at least five minutes before the service itself begins. You might consider joining one of our study sessions; or the women in our Mothers Union. Are you a secret singer? Why not join the choir? Or you could make the effort to get to know a few more people over coffee, or at Sunday lunch There is so much on offer at St Boniface, and I am sure there is so much that you can offer to St Boniface!

The Bishop s 2017 Lent Appeal Project Menedékház in Hungary This year s Lent Appeal Project is for the Menedékház in Hungary. Founded in 2005 on the outskirts of Budapest it helps homeless families with children reintegrate into the workplace and society at large. We aim to fund the comprehensive r e n o v a t i o n o f t h e f a m i l y washrooms, providing individual cabins or cubicles for family groups to change, wash, and shower. Old Shower facilities The proposed renovation will include: T h r e e l a r g e b a t h r o o m areas, one on each floor of the building Ten to twelve cabins or cubicles in each washroom with doors and locks for individual and family use One or more baby-changing and washing stations This work will include: Sinks, Toilets, Tile flooring, New walls, Ventilation, Showers, Upgraded electricity, Upgraded plumbing, Windows. The estimated cost of renovation is in the range of 10-15,000. Sometimes it is the smallest things in life that count the most. With this project, we hope to improve the lives of those served by the Menedékház. Washing-up and toileting facilities may not seem exciting in the grand scheme of things but they are essential and much appreciated among those who are vulnerable or otherwise just ge-ng by. Dona%ons to this appeal should be made through our vzw bank account (details on P2) and treasurer, Immanuel John, will forward these to the diocese. Alterna%vely, you can put your dona%on in a sealed envelope, marked Bishop s Appeal, and put it in the collec%on plate on a Sunday. www.menedekhaz.hu

Confirmations & Candelmas January 29th 2017 On the last Sunday in January we celebrated the Feest of Candelmas and the Bishop of Richborough, Rt. Rev d Norman Banks, confirmed eleven young candidates -Max Eduardo,Elin, Alix,Michael, Efuah, Nano, Amos, Abakah, Stephanie and Precious. What a joyous festival this was! The church was full. The candidates had been prepared during the preceeding months and were confident and proud to answer the Bishop s questions to them at the moment of confirmation. Some of them had learnt the whole service by heart! It is quite a while since so m a n y c a n d i d a t e s w e r e presented on one day and the first confirmation service in St Boniface by Bishop Norman. The sea of candles, the gold vestments and the personal encounter with our Bishop will have created a lasting memory for our young people. When they are older and asked where they were confirmed they will hopefullyremember St B o n i f a c e a t C a n d e l m a s, wherever in the world they happen to be. The service was followed by a well-supplied party. Our thanks to all who provided food -nothing went to waste! We hope that these eleven young people will grow in their faith, be encouraged by those around t h e m a n d b e r e g u l a r communicants.

The course will be offered twice a week: Men s breakfast on Wednesdays 7:30 to 8:30 and Thursday morning after 10:30 Eucharist. The study book is available at 5.
