good THE LIFE Micah 6:8 4 Week Sermon Series Starting January 7

A few months ago Sue (my wife) and I returned from a wonderful two-month holiday travelling through the USA and UK - Chicago, Washington DC, New York, Edinburgh, London and many points in between. It was the trip of a lifetime. As good as our time away was, coming home was sweeter still. We believe this to be objectively true we live in the best city in the best country in the world, a place envied for its peace, prosperity and idyllic lifestyle. The Gold Coast epitomises the Good Life. Or does it? Many of us are stressed, depressed or just plain pressed by the challenges of 21st century life, our calendars full and our lives, in some ways, empty. It s well documented that while over recent decades our standard of living has increased substantially, our happiness has decreased at a similar rate. It doesn t make sense. We walk through our social media amplified worlds, comparing our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel, as Steven Furtick puts it, adding to our sense of unease. Through January we will explore just how we can live the elusive Good Life. We will discover it s less about our lifestyle, and more about our life s focus. Jesus told us that he came to offer us life, and life to the full which sounds like the Good Life to me. In fact, Jesus modelled such a life, embodying the words of the ancient sage, Micah: But (God s) already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbour, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don t take yourself too seriously take God seriously. OPPORTUNITIES FOR FERVENT PRAYER One of Newlife's core values is fervent prayer - that we will always and in all ways pray, knowing that only at God's direction, in God's time and in God's way can we be the people God has called us to be. There are a number of opportunities to participate in or request fervent prayer: 8.00am - 9.00am Fridays in the boardroom to pray for the church. 7.30am - 9.00am Saturday Mornings in the lakeside lounge. Wilma and Bill Watson lead this time with 30 minutes of teaching on different aspects of prayer, followed by prayer for our church. 5.00pm - 5.50pm Sunday afternoons in the parents retreat to pray for young adults and young people.

PASTORAL CARE AT NEWLIFE In line with our faith goal to ensure care for all, the pastoral team would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to update your personal information, if you have not done so recently. Church Record Forms are available on the Pastoral Care clipboards (behind the attendance sheets) and, when completed can be handed to any of our Connect Team or the volunteers on the Information Desk after worship. Alternatively, you can go online to complete at www.church.nu, then go to the 'connect' drop down box and click on 'update your info'. Completing a Church Records Form helps us do our best in caring for you and your family - thank you. WILLOW CREEK VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Volunteer opportunity for Willow Creek Association Australia (WCAA) (office situated on Newlife premise) Willow Creek Association Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring, equipping and resourcing Christian leaders. GRIEF & LOSS PROGRAM The Grief & Loss program provides emotional, social & spiritual support, for those who have lost a loved one. Harold shared, "I was married to my wife for 42 years but she passed away due to a long battle with cancer. I felt lonely, that my future was bleak. I found attending Grief & Loss gave me a better understanding of my thoughts and emotions. Receiving support from others in the group, who had experienced similar situations, I was able to explore my destiny using the tools provided by the eight week program and face the future without dread. " Participants male & female have found warmth, acceptance and a common bond, learning they were not alone. This eight week FREE program commences Monday 5th February 2018 at Newlife. Registrations & enquiries please call Lyn Sheldon - 0407 374 136. BETHEL BIBLE STUDIES One of our specialized small group programs is Bethel which has been running for many years at Newlife. Over two years Bethel provides a wonderfully in depth overview of the entire bible. Bethel does not require any previous biblical knowledge. Amongst other things, it teaches an overview of God s plan for His creation, the aim of individual books, the history of biblical times, how the Old and New Testaments relate and how relevant Scripture is to our 21st century lives. Kicking off in February, in 2018 Bethel will cover the New Testament. There are two meeting time options: Monday mornings 9.00am to 11.00am Tuesday evenings 6.30pm to 8.30pm For further information, please contact Christine Reeves on 0432 682 995 or register your interest on the app/website. 05 04

ACTS 1:8 MISSIONS UPDATE FROM JAJCE BOSNIA Hope you enjoy some of the news we have. Thank you for helping us do the central heating at the church it will make things go much easier over the winter. We wanted to share some of the things God did in this part of the world. Summer was very busy as usual. We took kids and young people to the swimming pool during summer, did BBQ with them, bowling, and went swimming to the lakes. We spent a lot of time during summer talking to young people about their future and encouraging them to have hope and try to give godly advice. Some of the young people and teens went to the camps. We did not take break from hockey so we continued with practice and for the first time kids up to 12 years were playing in a friendly match with friends from Prijedor. At the end of July we attended International Floorball Tournament in Banja Luka that took two days and in Novemeber we attended a tournament in Croatia. For some of the kids it was the first time to be in Zagreb. I continue to promoted our club and town in half marathons and met really nice people there. music. We had floorball fence set up kids and young people could play from 7pm - 9pm. We had face paint for kids, a lot of fun games. Also, we set up art gallery and people could pick up photos that were displayed in the town and we had few bands playing music. We praise God for great time that day. We helped kids that needed school supplies beginning the school year in September. We have good contact with parents and met with some of them during summer. Hopefully, they will get involved more with us and join us on some of the activities. Since the war, none of the playgrounds were rebuilt and finally this summer we have one new playground below my house and this is great news. In August we organized our event Lavovi Go (Lavovi, name for our club which means lions), this time under a name Lavovi Rocks. A lot of workers who are part of Novi Most organization came from different part of Bosnia to help in this event especially with

In this coming months please pray for us: Please pray for the ways to enter the school not only through sport but through music as well. Pray for opportunities to talk one on one with young people we work with. Please continue praying for Petar and Jelena, brother and sister that are part of our youth group and Petar is part of a team. Pray for Zoki to come back to the Lord. We praise God for Ivan who gave his life to Jesus on the camps this summer. We praise God for the job opportunities that young people got recently. Pray for distribution of Christmas parcels we will have middle of December. That we can show love of God to the kids My sister Sanela who graduated last year in English experience a miracle. Our sister in low Senka came home first day of the school in September and said that kids will not have English because school could not find English teacher. So next morning Sanela goes to talk to the director of the school and director offered her a job immediately. As you know our schools are devided and it is school that has Croatian program. Sanela is not a Croat so this makes it even bigger miracle. We are still in the awe of what God did that day. The only girl that attended league Kate got married and left too. We were with some of them for more than 10 years. I did not see them getting baptised, being part of the church, being great evangelist. But we were privileged to invest in their lives, talk to them, pray for them, speak God's Word over them, being there during parental divorce, school challenges, and teen years. We can only trust God that He will provide new people on their way in Sweden in Italy and that His Word will not return empty as He promised in Isaiah 55, 11. We must believe and hope that God will water the seeds that are sown in their lives through floorball, youth conferences, camps and all the coffees we shared together. THANKYOU FROM CAMBODIA Big thank you to those who contributed to the onesies and undies campaign. We have just returned from visiting Cambodia where we had the great privilege of spending time with Perlito and Rose in Poipet and Jo and Stu in Battambang in Cambodia. It was a wonderful inspirational, sometimes sad and hot and dusty experience. Hopefully you had the opportunity to meet Perlito and Rose as they came home with us but sadly have now gone back to Cambodia. They had a wonderful time here and were so humbled by your generosity. Jo and Stu (like Perlito and Rose) can t thank us enough for the support NU provides. They get great encouragement knowing that we are praying for them, their needs, their work and their communities as they minister to the very poor and outcast. In Battambang, Jo arranged for the women to be transported to the centre which we had decorated in a Christmas theme earlier and there we ate, sang and shared stories with these impoverished mothers and had fun fussing over the babies. All the many onesies and undies that you kindly donated were so very gratefully received and appreciated. There are many more to be given out to the children and Mums in the surrounding villages. Joanna was very moved by your generosity. She felt truly blessed and cherished by the gifts.
