The Stations of the Cross For Children My Service Bulletin
First Station JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DEATH Prayer Leader: We love you, Christ; People: Because you first loved us. Reading When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus in order to bring about his death. They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor. He asked them, What should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah? And the people said, Let him be crucified! So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he handed Jesus over to be crucified. (Matthew 27:1-2, 22, 24a, 26b)

And about three o clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:33-34) When Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said, I am thirsty. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, It is finished. Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:28-30) Since it was the day of Preparation, the people did not want the bodies left on the cross during the Sabbath. So they asked Pilate to have the bodies removed. The soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out. (John 19:31-34)
