January 1, 2017 Solemnity of Mary HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH Pastor Father Michel Dalton OFM Cap Deacon Steve Kula Deacon Dan Guinaugh PARISH OFFICE: 396-0551 holytrinitychurchhi.org MISSION STATEMENT The Mission of Holy Trinity Catholic Church is to be one with each other and with Christ the Father and each other so that the Holy Spirit may make Christ known to the world in us through Word and Sacrament, Prayer and Service.
HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH "It's a boy...and who is his Mother?" This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Mary the Mother of God. Our attention last week was focused on the newborn baby-savior, Jesus. We proclaim that he is "son of God and son of Mary". Today we turn our attention, and gaze, to his mother, Mary. By doing this we are are not ignoring Jesus but taking a step back from the Nativity scene to get a wider glance at the image that represents God's coming into our world "in the flesh"...through Mary and Joseph. With Christmas being celebrated on a Sunday, this year, the liturgical calendar has us celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family this past Friday. For many of you it was not a feastday celebrated in church at mass...but hopefully you recalled the Holy Family in your personal prayers and devotions. Understanding the beautiful vocation of being families, patterned on the family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, is an inspiration for all of us to grow closer to one another. As you parent's know so well, children once born into the world need to be nurtured in love and care...the blessing of having children only begins at their births. To again quote Fr. Crowe," to be a mother (and indeed to be a father) is to enter into an ongoing dynamic of cooperation with God so that over the years God might love the child through the love of his or her parents, and in the process the ongoing creative act of God that brought the child to life be brought to completion. Many years ago, while driving on a country road in rural New Hampshire in the midst of a fierce snowstorm (on my way to celebrate Mass at a nearby church) I saw sign on the lawn of a nearby house. It simply read in big bold letters, which I could read through the falling snow, "It's a boy!". I later learned, sometime in the spring when the snows had melted, that the sign was still on that front lawn. While again passing by I saw woman standing in their driveway and stopped to inquire about the sign. She told me that her and her husband welcomed a baby boy into the world on Christmas eve and the sign remained to announce both the birth of their son and Mary's Son the following day. They decided that the sign would remain for the first year...to remind them of their sons birth and passerby of hopefully Jesus' birth to Mary. This week let's take a step back and see the entire Nativity scene...not only the one in front of our altar but the one lived in our world. Mary, because she is the Mother of God, is mother of our salvation: and her love leads us to her Son. Christmas Blessings,

Former Pastor now a Monsignor: Congratulations! "It is my great pleasure to announce that our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has named Father Gary Secor a Chaplain to His Holiness. He will now have the title Monsignor Gary Secor. This is an honorary title given to priests who are outstanding in their witness to Jesus and their service to the people of God. Monsignor Secor currently serves as the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Honolulu and as the Rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. In the past he has served as pastor of several parishes and as Vicar for Clergy. He is well known throughout the Diocese as a hard-working, devoted and faith-filled priest. Though the title of Monsignor takes effect immediately, we will have a special Investiture Ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace within the next couple of months to celebrate this honor bestowed on Monsignor Secor by our Holy Father. The date will be announced in the near future. We thank God for Monsignor Secor and all the exemplary service he has given to the Diocese of Honolulu! Christmas...Mahalo's Although I thanked everyone, at the Christmas masses, I once again want to offer our sincere thanks to the many people who made Christmas so prayerful and joyful. Both Deacon Dan & Steve along with the ministers, sacristans, liturgical ministers, choir members, church cleaners and decorators, made Christmas a beautiful and prayerful experience. Special thanks to those who controlled the parking space and made sure that everyone had a place for their vehicle. This was no small feat, but they "made it happen". The crowds of people, who came to worship with us, were all touched by how we prepared our church for this special feast day. You could see excitement in their eyes and hear it in their responses to the prayers. For a brief moment we were all truly caught up in the wonder and power of a loving God...as we celebrated the Nativity of His Son and our Savior. Many thanks, Fr.
