SAVAGE RACE 2016 Joel helping Hope The Savage Race was certainly an adrenaline rush this year! Our God s Minions team of 10 (8 participants and 2 photographers) journeyed to Dade City early Saturday morning to tackle the 7.25 mile race which included 26 ridiculous obstacles that push you to your physical limit and then some. I m so proud that our team finished strong together! What a great bonding experience! And it only took a couple days to recover! God s Minions Rock!

Attention Parents: Due to a schedule conflict with our Confirmation Retreat we will not be able to go to the Believe Conference that we usually attend. Fortunately, there are many incredible conferences geared for your students. This year we have decided to attend The Lift Tour! The Lift Tour by Student Leadership University is a world-class weekend experience that will challenge your students at all points in their spiritual walks. Just like Believe this will be a high energy event that includes dynamic worship and speakers as well as a lot of interactive ways for the students to learn and express their faith. New Date: November 11th & 12th So if you are reading this note you are deciding whether or not to spend about 24+ hours on an uninhabited island with a bunch of savages! (That doesn t even sound safe?) Do it anyway! The SFC Guy's Retreat is open to MS & Guys (and some fearless adult chaperones) that want to get out into nature and "rough it"! This year's trip is sure to be memorable as we brave the elements overnight on an "uncharted" island off the coast of Tarpon Springs. Cost is $15 per person and includes food, transportation, survival skills training, etc. You will need to bring tent, sleeping bags, water bottle, etc. Go online by Wed. (11/9) at www.sfcministry.org and press the "Give online" button and highlight "guys retreat" to pay your $15 by debit or credit card to secure your spot! Or you can bring $15 to the youth office. Details will follow for those are signedup! We are very excited to attend this conference this year! It will be an overnight in Tampa. Dates: March 3-4 Cost: $75 Location: First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace in Tampa FL Early Bird deadline for tickets is 11/11 so a $25 deposit will be due by 11/6 Trees have been ordered and will be here the 4th week of November. We will need help building the tree lot, unloading trees, and working the tree lot this year. This is a great way to earn money for missions, especially if you are planning on Belize next summer. Be looking for sign-up sheets soon. We have booked a Ski Trip this year - Dec. 1922nd. Cost is $250 per person. ( only) Last call for anyone wanting to go on this years ski trip to Wintergreen VA. We will be skiing at the Wintergreen ski resort and staying in Waynesboro, Virginia. Cost cover: Transportation, lodging, 2 day lift tickets, ski rental and 7 meals. This trip will close on 13th of November! Also, our year round fundraising is another way to earn FREE money. Any gift card buying you may be doing for the holiday s or just in general earns you money with this program. Sign up with scrip using the url listed on the card and the code to connect you to SFC Student Ministry.

We are excited to announce that our next confirmation session will begin on Sunday, January 8, 2017. This class is open to all 8 th grade students and above who have not yet been confirmed. The confirmation process is highly regarded in the Methodist church since it is the means by which a student becomes a member of the Church. The student ministry staff invites you to attend a parents meeting on Sunday, December 4th, for more information regarding this class. The meeting will be held at 11:00am. Parents must register their students and attend. Pastor Dave will be there to address his confirmation expectations for students. Confirmation is a specialized class that will be held once a week on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the youth room. It is a 14 week class with graduation to be held on April 30, 2017. We hope you can join us on the 4 th to find out more about the confirmation process. We are looking forward to having your student in class in the New Year. Students are welcome to attend the meeting as well. will be att e n d i n g Judgement House on S u n d a y, November 13th at Lakeview Baptist Church will be visiting Pinellas Hope on Sunday, December 6th. CALLING ALL STUDENT DEVOTION WRITERS!!! Hey guys, the church is putting together a daily email advent devotion where we have people from the church author a daily devotion. The format will be essentially consist of a Bible verse or passage, followed by a personal advent-related (Christmas) devotion. The church has asked that we reach out to students and see if there is at least one MS, and college-age student that would consider writing a devotion to be included in the Advent Devotional. The catch is that the devotions have to be written and submitted by November 4th and must be original. Please let me know (Carl) if you are interested in writing a devotion for the book this year! PARENTS MINISTRY CORNER: We recently covered a topic during our centered around "Others First" and discussed how counter-cultural that no on can be for us today. "En tlement" is one of the strongholds in our lives that prevents us from having "the a tude of Christ" (Phil. 2) because it helps us ra onalize pu ng ourselves first. I'll never forget the day my 15 year old daughter came to me as her 16th birthday was approaching and asked, "When are we going shopping for my new car?" To which I replied wi ngly, "Huh?" She con nued, "Well everyone gets a new car when they turn 16 dad!" Wow, en tlement at its best! I love my daughter, but no, she did not get a new car. Even the best of us have succumbed to the no on that "we deserve "; you fill-in the blank. Here's a great ar cle from All Pro Dads about how to address the issue of "en tlement" and really "others first" as a parent. h p://www.allprodad.com/5-ways-to-not-raise-en tledkids/#.wbdvokvr3ow.email TESTIMONY ANYONE? PHUMC is looking for one or two students that might want to share their faith conversion story or testimony during one of the Advent Sunday services. Please contact Carl if you might be interested in talking about how you came to the Lord. What a blessing it would be to have one or two of our students be able to share in the service! November 19th is our church s Veterans Day Dinner to honor all the veterans of our church. We are in need of a few students who will be willing to come in from 5:00 pm that evening and actually serve the dinner. This is an annual event and many of our students have served in the past. It is greatly appreciated!! This time can be used for service hours for school or as way to help earn a little money for future mission trips. The men s group always makes a donation to the student ministry for our help. Please sign up on the student ministry bulletin board or call the student ministry office to sign up. Attire for the night is white shirt with dark pants or jeans, closed toed shoes and long hair in a pony. Join us Friday Night, November 18th (6:30-8:30pm) in the MPR for men, dads & sons (ages 5 & up). We are going to have a time of food, games and learning together. Duke Preston, Director of Player Engagement for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be speaking.

November 2016 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat 6 1 2 3 Thank you to all who have helped us with Snack Supper! We are still in need of someone for November 27th and December 11th.
