CALLING ALL STUDENT DEVOTION WRITERS!!! Hey guys, the church is putting together a daily email advent devotion where we have people from the church author a daily devotion. The format will be essentially consist of a Bible verse or passage, followed by a personal advent-related (Christmas) devotion. The church has asked that we reach out to students and see if there is at least one MS, and college-age student that would consider writing a devotion to be included in the Advent Devotional. The catch is that the devotions have to be written and submitted by November 4th and must be original. Please let me know (Carl) if you are interested in writing a devotion for the book this year! PARENTS MINISTRY CORNER: We recently covered a topic during our centered around "Others First" and discussed how counter-cultural that no on can be for us today. "En tlement" is one of the strongholds in our lives that prevents us from having "the a tude of Christ" (Phil. 2) because it helps us ra onalize pu ng ourselves first. I'll never forget the day my 15 year old daughter came to me as her 16th birthday was approaching and asked, "When are we going shopping for my new car?" To which I replied wi ngly, "Huh?" She con nued, "Well everyone gets a new car when they turn 16 dad!" Wow, en tlement at its best! I love my daughter, but no, she did not get a new car. Even the best of us have succumbed to the no on that "we deserve "; you fill-in the blank. Here's a great ar cle from All Pro Dads about how to address the issue of "en tlement" and really "others first" as a parent. h p://www.allprodad.com/5-ways-to-not-raise-en tledkids/#.wbdvokvr3ow.email TESTIMONY ANYONE? PHUMC is looking for one or two students that might want to share their faith conversion story or testimony during one of the Advent Sunday services. Please contact Carl if you might be interested in talking about how you came to the Lord. What a blessing it would be to have one or two of our students be able to share in the service! November 19th is our church s Veterans Day Dinner to honor all the veterans of our church. We are in need of a few students who will be willing to come in from 5:00 pm that evening and actually serve the dinner. This is an annual event and many of our students have served in the past. It is greatly appreciated!! This time can be used for service hours for school or as way to help earn a little money for future mission trips. The men s group always makes a donation to the student ministry for our help. Please sign up on the student ministry bulletin board or call the student ministry office to sign up. Attire for the night is white shirt with dark pants or jeans, closed toed shoes and long hair in a pony. Join us Friday Night, November 18th (6:30-8:30pm) in the MPR for men, dads & sons (ages 5 & up). We are going to have a time of food, games and learning together. Duke Preston, Director of Player Engagement for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be speaking.
