POINTING PEOPLE TO JESUS AND INSPIRING THEM TO BECOME A PART OF THAT MISSION. BOISE, IDAHO CHILDREN & FAMILY INTEGRATION

WHO WE ARE We are on a mission to point people to Jesus and inspire them to become a part of that mission. THE BOISE VALLEY Named by french trappers as La rivière boisée, the wooded river and cultivated by pioneers who planted even more trees to cast refreshing shade, Boise is known as The City of Trees or Tree City. A modern city set in a valley of the high-desert west, Boise is an ecclectic mix of high tech industries and rugged wilderness and home to the state capitol, an NCAA Division I university, a world-leading semiconductor technology manufacturer and a large Basque culture. The mid-sized metropolis is often listed by national publications as a best of place to live, work, raise a family and retire. Just hours from the amazing vistas of the Sawtooth Mountain range and the Snake River Canyon, Boise benefits from it s location in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. Mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting, fishing, hunting and boating are locals favorite activities. Wintertime brings alpine and cross county skiing just minutes away from downtown, while a scenic drive north can end with a stroll through the snow sculptures at the annual McCall Winter Carnival. The people of the Northwest are bighearted and individualistic, genuine and down-to-earth. Our no-frills mentality is why you ll rarely see a pastor in a suit and tie; you re just as likely to see churchgoers sporting cowboy boots, blue jeans or big beards as you are dress clothes and manicures. TREE CITY CHURCH HISTORY In 1903, our church was planted in the city, becoming the first Nazarene church in the state of Idaho, and would go on to provide a new kind of oasis for the Valley. Today, our church continues to be a longstanding tree in the valley. We have sought to provide an oasis for travelers and explorers journeying through the most treacherous of terrain in their lives. We share a hope in Christ that can provide shade at just the right time in a person s life. People from all over the Valley have settled into the family of our church and are pioneering a new life rooted in God, growing in passion, and reaching into the community. Tree City Church of the Nazarene is proud to continue serving the Boise Valley for years to come. OUR INSPIRATION: John 1:12 To all who receive Jesus, to all who believe in him, Jesus gives the power to become children of God. OUR MISSION: Tree City Church is called to point people to Jesus and inspire them to become a part of that mission. OUR VISION: To be a church creating ways for people to become inspired by God, passionate about others, and engaged with our church. OUR GROWTH PATH: BECOME who you are at Tree City Church. Be YOU. You are loved. You belong here. You are a child of God. Come DISCOVER. Discover who God has created you to be. Discover your passion, gifts, and calling. Become COMMUNITY. Become engaged with our mission in the church, community, and world. Become family. YOU DISCOVER COMMUNITY. BECOME a part of the Tree City Church family. 2

YOU DISCOVER COMMUNITY. BECOME. 3

WHAT WE BELIEVE GOD: God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. JESUS CHRIST: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. He lived a sinless, human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign forever. THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is God s presence in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives within every Christian from the moment of salvation giving them power for understanding spiritual truth and living in the ways of God. THE BIBLE: The Bible is the revelation of God s word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit and is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. HUMAN BEINGS: People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like God in character. People are the supreme object of God s creation. Every person has tremendous potential for good, yet sin has disconnected our relationship with God. Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life. SALVATION: Salvation is God s free gift to us and connects our relationship with God, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from the penalty of sin. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment a person receives Jesus and believes in Him. SANCTIFICATION: Sanctification is the setting apart or the new identity we have through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit can spiritually transform people from being spiritually dead to becoming spiritually alive. Through the Holy Spirit a persons heart can be cleansed from sin and brought to a state of complete and on-purpose devotion to God. ETERNITY: God created people to exist forever. We will either exit eternally disconnected from God by sin, or eternally connected with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally disconnected from God is eternal death. To be eternally connected with God is eternal life. We believe each person will one day appear before God to give an account. Learn more about the Church of the Nazarene at WWW.NAZARENE.ORG. 4
