October 15, 2017 The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 GOD REVEALED TO THE NATIONS What wonderful images we have today of the reign of God! Isaiah speaks to us of a great feast a heavenly feast a feast of abundance with rich foods and choice wines. It is the Lord s own affair, Isaiah explains, when God will unite all nations, dry every tear, and destroy death forever. Then, too, will the entire earth rejoice in the Lord and bask in God s saving grace. Jesus speaks of heaven in terms of a feast as well. Here, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a king s wedding feast given for his son. This is a feast of abundance also, with the fattened cattle prepared just so. But many of the people invited don t want to come, so the king invites anyone who would honor his son by their presence there. And Paul tells us that whether we live abundantly or in humble circumstances, we can do all things in the Lord who strengthens us. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Immaculate Conception Academy, an all-girls College Prep Catholic High School located in the Mission District in San Francisco has implemented a work-study program and is looking for organizations to sponsor their students. Currently, just to cite a few, the girls are working at companies such as GAP, Bank of the West, UCSF, Jones Day Law Firm, Heffernan Insurance Brokers, etc. Nationwide this program is already succeeding in 30 other cities coast to coast. A team of 4 students works at an organization to cover one full-time position, rotating work days. The organization receives an entry-level, clerical staff position filled without the hassle of hiring, benefits and other HR concerns. The students are employees of the ICA Corporate Work Study Program. The organization s sponsorship helps lower the tuition cost of their college preparatory education, making it affordable for more working class families. Operating as essentially a small, outsourcing staff agency, ICA enables the organization to fill needed clerical or entry-level positions. The students are on site 36 weeks a year, 40 hours a week adding diversity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and succeed. For more information please contact Sister Lilly at (415) 824 2052 ext 28 and/or visit ICA s website at www.icacademy.org Sister Lilly will be speaking this Sunday at the 9am and 10:30am Masses. Pastor s Column Consecration of the Archdiocese - On Saturday, October 7, 2017, the Archbishop consecrated the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. That day, the Cathedral was full with standing room only, filled with the faithful from throughout the Archdiocese. Together we prayed the Rosary on the feast day of the Most Holy Rosary that recalled Our Lady's assistance in leading Christian forces to victory. With her assistance, we are asking for her protection and victory against sin and the devil. At the mass that followed, Archbishop Salvatore recalled that at the apparition of Our Lady at Fatima, the children who were privileged to see her were given a glimpse of hell. And she asked them to convey to the world to pray the rosary and to do reparation for the salvation of souls. So at the mass, the Archbishop called on the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese: to pray the rosary daily and for families to pray, at least once a week, together. He added that our prayers can change the course of our families as well as the course of humanity. to do penance. He reminded us that Fridays are still days of penance in remembrance of Christ's suffering for us on the cross. Although we can choose a different penance such as abstaining from food or drink, we should at least abstain from meat. And he encouraged the faithful to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a month. to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in gratitude for God's love for us and to renew our love for the Lord. He encouraged us that if we're not able to adore before the Blessed Sacrament during the week, then to do so on Sundays before or after mass. and lastly, to celebrate First Saturdays Devotion. In reparation of sin, to stand with Mary after her Son was crucified and killed, the Archbishop calls upon us to celebrate 5 consecutive First Saturdays Devotion at least once a year. As part of the devotion, we are to receive communion, confess our sins, pray 5 decades of the rosary and spend 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. While some people may be able to rise to this level of prayer and devotion instantly, some of us may take a little time to rise to that level. St. Francis would teach, In the beginning, do what needs to be done, then do what you can, and soon, you'll find yourself doing the "impossible", or what you thought was "impossible" when you first began. Olympic athletes also had to learn to walk before they could run. The Archbishop in consecrating the Archdiocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is calling upon us to make a prayerful difference in the life of the local Church and in our 3 counties. And he added that as we heed the requests of our Mother Mary, in the end her Immaculate Heart will triumph. - Fr. Dan

In 301 AD, Armenians adopted Christianity as their official state religion. Thus, Armenia became the first Christian nation in the world. In 2001, in celebration of the 1700 th anniversary of this historic event, and in commemoration of the 35 th anniversary of the consecration of the beautiful Church on Commonwealth Way, two benefactors and sculptor Gasper Gharibyan dedicated the one-of-a kind Khachkar Monument (a cross of stone.) This cross, seen through a window, has guided the Armenians through the obstacles of their tragic history. The Church itself has many magnificent religious artifacts. You will learn and see much more at the Docent Tour. Last chance to register is this Monday, October 16 th! Please make a check of $5 payable to St. Gregory Armenian Church (cash ok too), memo SAGES, attn. Sr. Esther, and leave in the Rectory mailbox. HURRY HURRY HURRY.
