The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM COHORT 4 FALL 2017-2019
Tri-Cities Baptist Church is committed to the Great Commission through multiplying churches, pastors, and Christian leaders who are equipped and trained for the ministry. LOCAL CHURCH RESIDENCY + SEMINARY TRAINING LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM LOCAL CHURCH The local church is the community gathering of God s redeemed people. Regardless of one s specific calling he or she can be certain it is understood, encouraged, developed, and worked within the context of the local church. Therefore, it is the primary leadership training arena. SEMINARY The seminary is an institution providing a near unparalleled depth of knowledge and resources to assist the local church in training Christian leaders. The cooperative effort of the church to assemble the highest standard of formal education for pastors and church leaders is a blessing and an opportunity worthy of pursuing. COHORT The Leadership Training Cohort is a group of men and women, set apart for ministry, who deem their training best pursued in community, benefiting from the depth and resources of seminary, while experiencing and leading within the trenches of the local church. Tri-Cities Leadership Training Cohort 4 The Tri-Cities Leadership Training Program uses a cohort model. What is a cohort? The term cohort can be defined as a group of individuals banded together for a purpose. In our setting, the cohort is a group of called Christian leaders for the common purpose of further developing their leadership competencies within the context of the local church. Every other fall Tri-Cities Leadership Training Program launches a new cohort. A cohort is assembled of 12 to 16 individuals who serve in a residency level supervised ministry experience at Tri-Cities Baptist Church or a partnering local church. Consequently, cohort members must live in the Tri-Cities area or be committed to relocate for the duration of the training program (21 months). Each cohort member is carefully interviewed to discern calling, character, competency, and capability of meeting the expectations of the program to completion. Minimally, all cohort members must meet the following expectations: - Profess to be an authentic follower of Jesus set apart for ministry. - Exhibit character and conduct worthy of our calling in Jesus Christ. - Share in the work, accountability, and edification of the training program. - Participate in all cohort training sessions. - Serve a minimum of 8 hours per week in an approved supervised ministry role. - Begin and maintain a diligent intent to complete the full program. (Consideration must be made in regards to time, finances, and ministry obligations.) Cohort 1 (Fall 2013 Spring 2015) graduated in May 2015. Hear their stories and read their comments. Cohort 2 Cohort 2 began in August 2015 and will graduate in May 2017. Cohort 3 launched in August 2016 and continues to be a life changing experience for those involved. Cohort 4 is now being assembled and will begin in August 2017. If you are interested and would like more information, visit this page. We are not the perfect church! We don t think we have it all figured out, ready to share our way as the way. That s not why we do this. We are a redeemed community of Jesus followers on mission together. We believe that mission rests in Biblical authority that charges the church to multiple, train, and send out leaders. The leadership training program is just one way we try to be good stewards of this aspect of our mission.
