Why was he in prison? Read Acts 12:1-4. Although Peter was one of the 12 disciples, he denied knowing Jesus three times before He was crucified. But after Jesus rose from the dead and sent the Holy Spirit, Peter was transformed! On Pentecost, some people were there who had wanted Jesus to be killed yet what did Peter boldly tell them? Read Acts 2:38-41. What did Peter do for the man who was lame, and what did he tell the crowd? Read Acts 3:1-16. In Peter s two books of the Bible, he gives good advice about how to live for Christ and endure suffering. Read 1 Peter 3:12-18. PRAY Dear Jesus, when we face hard times, help us remember that You have overcome the world. We praise You for the victory You won on the cross. Amen.
PETER S ESCAPE PRAYER Jesus taught the disciples much about prayer. When we pray for something, what should we do? Read Mark 11:22-24. What does Jesus say about holding a grudge while we pray? Read Mark 11:25 and Matthew 6:14-15. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He taught them what is often called the Lord s Prayer. Can you say it by heart? Read Matthew 6:9-13. Like Peter, John was a disciple and heard Jesus teach about prayer. What does John say will happen when we pray? Read 1 John 5:14-15. Instead of worrying, what can we experience when we pray and trust God? Read Philippians 4:6-7. PRAY Heavenly Father, may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us what we need and save us from trials and temptations. We glorify You. Amen.
PETER S ESCAPE POWER Who was Peter obeying when he preached, and what message was he told to share with everyone? Read Acts 10:38-43. After Peter was arrested for healing a man who was lame, the rulers sternly warned him not to preach about Jesus again. What happened when the believers prayed about this? Read Acts 4:23-31. Why do you think Peter could sleep even though he was chained between guards and about to be put on trial for his life? Here is a clue in one of his letters. Read 1 Peter 5:7. What did the believers do, and how did God answer them? Read Acts 12:5-16. Did you know that the Bible is full of powerful prayers that you can pray today? Read Psalm 61, Colossians 1:9-13, and Ephesians 1:15-20. PRAY Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for giving us peace when we trust in You. Fill us with Your power to share the Good News with others. Amen.
