2015. is off to the usual start, as January brings with it dreary days and bitterly cold nights. A rare nice day means that temperatures might peak into the 40s, and seeing the sun is almost unsettling. Like many of you, we ve had influenza and the stomach flu in our house. And yet, I have to say, things are really crackling at Highwater. The past few Sundays have really been very lively you could say that we ve had lots of visitors, lots of children in worship, and lots of people starting the new year off right, in worship and service to God. While all of these are true, I would say that they are symptoms of the same cause the Holy Spirit active and alive in our lives. And isn t that what we come for, why we worship? I think so! So, I can t wait to see what might be happening next. We have made many good plans for the coming months, as we head down that Lenten road, preparing heart and soul for Holy Week and Easter. We don t get too far ahead of ourselves, as the Lenten journey is good and worthwhile on its own. Please stay disciplined and faithful to the church great things are happening at the church, and I note it as I lock up the doors and head for home early Sunday afternoons, that I inevitably have a big smile on my face. Good things are happening here thank you, Lord! If you haven t been in worship this year you need to come back, and bring your own presence and gifts to the church again. Peace, Pastor Scott Promises Romans 15:13 (The Voice) 13 I pray that God, the source of all hope, will infuse your lives with an abundance of joy and peace in the midst of your faith so that your hope will overflow through the power of the Holy Spirit. 2015 Highwater Women s Retreat (The Retreat is open to all Women of Highwater. 2015 Lenten Series: Adult Confirmation While confirmation class was in swing last school year, several people remarked that they wished that we could do a confirmation class for adults so you could brush up on the basics of the Christian faith. Well, your dreams are about to come true! Each Wednesday during Lent, we will gather and utilize some of the materials that I used with last year s confirmands. These materials lend themselves to excellent conversation and are quite fun to work with. During the course, we will become excellent conversation and prayer partners, and explore and learn to think about faith differently. Here are the topics we will be covering: The study will take place in the narthex from 6:30-7:30p February 25 The Bible Who Wrote the Bible God or Humans? Why Does the Bible Contradict Itself at Times? Is the New Testament More Important than the Old Testament? March 4 Creed How Can God be Three-In-One? Is the Holy Spirit a Person or Wind or Fire or What? (Discussion of Covenant) March 11 Jesus Did Jesus Know He Was God? Do I Have to Believe that Jesus Performed Miracles? Is Believing in Jesus the Only Way to Heaven? March 18 Discipleship Why Should I Follow Jesus Can t I Just Say I Believe in Him? Why Should I Pray When God Doesn t Answer All My Prayers? Can I be a Christian without Going to Church? March 25 Other Beliefs Why Are There So Many Different Religions? Why Are There So Many Different Christian Churches? (Discussion of the United Church of Christ) April 1 Tough Questions What does it mean to be Born Again? Is it Okay to be Angry with God? Why does God let Bad Things Happen?
