October 2017 African American Manager of The Coventry Theatre during the struggle to abolish slavery) October brings Black History Month, which Warwick celebrates by running events for staff and students. Warwick submitted for a Bronze Race Equality Charter Mark in July 2017, which provides a framework through which institutions work to identify and cultural barriers standing in the way of minority ethnic staff and students. Member institutions develop initiatives and solutions for action and can apply for a Bronze or Silver level award, depending on levels of progress. Warwick is awaiting the outcome of the submission and continues its work to progress race equality. December 2017 The promotion of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion concerns all of us and is the responsibility of all members of our community. January 2018 As we welcome 2018, the New Year is an opportunity to look at how you could integrate Warwick s Equality Objectives into your role, team, or department, perhaps via your PDR or just as a personal objective. Here are some tips on changes you could make: Are you involved in recruitment? Are you aware of your unconscious bias? Have taken the online module? Do you treat everyone around you equally and respectfully? A colleague returning from long term sick or parental leave might feel anxious about settling back into the team, asking if they need an update or refresher might help them settle back into work more easily. Do you know what Charter Marks we have, what they mean to you and how you can get involved? Don t be afraid to offer help to those who might need it, if you see someone struggling with accessibility around campus!
