BRINGING HOPE & LIGHT IN THE MIDST OF DARKNESS DONOR REPORT

THE PEOPLE WHO WALK IN DARKNESS WILL SEE A GREAT LIGHT; DEAR FAITHFUL FRIENDS, As you well know, 2014 has been fraught with hardship, persecution and heartache for many Jews, Arabs, and Christians living in Israel and the Arab world. We are witnessing an historic wave of evil, war, terrorism & persecution and much spiritual darkness. With His guidance and strength, and bolstered by your loving and sacrificial help, we have touched real lives with God s love and mercy at a critical moment. Together, we have the honor of shining His Light in the darkness. JOEL C. ROSENBERG Founder and Chairman The Joshua Fund Board and staff can testify to this first hand. Members of our team have traveled into Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and to the borders of Syria this year, despite the worsening situation. Our team has traveled all across Israel and throughout the West Bank, despite rising tensions. We have huddled with, prayed with, and sought to serve Jews and Arabs who are enduring tremendous hardships. We have listened to their stories and looked into their eyes. And then in August, my family and I left our home in Virginia and moved to Israel during the Gaza War. Yet we see God at work. Just as Isaiah prophesied, The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. (Isaiah 9:2). This was true 2,000 years ago when our Lord Jesus Christ was born in a manger in Bethlehem. This is true today as the Lord Jesus prepares to come back to earth to reign from Jerusalem. Despite the darkness and devastation, we have much good news to report! People in the region are coming to faith in Christ. Others are hungering after God and His Word. We see believers growing in their faith. We also see pastors and ministry leaders serving the Lord with great courage and conviction. In short, we see that God is moving powerfully, and we are deeply grateful for your faithful prayers and generous financial support. Please join us in thanking God for His mercy in allowing The Joshua Fund to make a real difference in 2014. With His guidance and strength, and bolstered by your loving and sacrificial help, we have touched real lives with God s love and mercy at a critical moment. Together, we have the honor of shining His Light in the darkness. 2

THOSE WHO LIVE IN A DARK LAND, THE LIGHT WILL SHINE ON THEM. - ISAIAH 9:2 On behalf of The Joshua Fund s Board and staff, thank you so very much for every prayer, every gift and every message of encouragement that you have sent to us. We sincerely appreciate the trust you have placed in our stewardship of your gifts. As we move forward, major challenges lie ahead in 2015. The spiritual and humanitarian needs in neighboring countries are overwhelming. Christians in the Epicenter remain under siege. Many have been forced to abandon their homes and all their belongings. Meanwhile, Israelis live under the threat of terrorism on a near daily basis. This is exactly why The Joshua Fund was created for such a time as this: To bless Israel and her Neighbors, especially in the midst of intense evil and darkness, because this is what God commands us to do. To help care for the needy and the vulnerable, especially during times of war and terror. To strengthen and encourage the Church to be God s lighthouse in the darkness, and now more than ever. By God s grace and through your consistently generous giving, we have been able to steadily increase our investments in God s work in the Epicenter since our founding in 2006. We praise Him for growing this ministry on His timetable and for His glory. Our pledge to you is to continue endeavoring to be faithful stewards, prayerfully investing every dollar with wisdom and discernment to bear good and eternal fruit. We are so deeply grateful for your trust. Thank you for standing with us so faithfully at this extraordinarily challenging time. May the Lord deeply bless you and your family as we work together to shine His Light in the midst of such darkness. Yours in Christ Jesus in the Epicenter, JOEL C. ROSENBERG Founder and Chairman Given the urgency of the crises in the region, our board senses that the Lord may be calling The Joshua Fund to do more to meet spiritual and physical needs of Jews and Arabs in the Epicenter in 2015. Indeed, we are seeing new opportunities emerging where we believe we could truly touch the lives of more people with God s love, and do more to strengthen the local followers of Jesus Christ. Would you please pray for our board and staff as we seek God s direction for 2015? We are fully confident that God will raise the amount best suited for The Joshua Fund. A VAN, A BUILDING, A REFUGE FROM ISIS As ISIS launched its offensive from Syria into northern Iraq this summer, one Arab Christian couple actively involved in a church heard rumors that the terrorists were preparing to invade their town. The couple quickly gathered their children and their bags and loaded them into a vehicle that had been purchased just weeks before with donations from The Joshua Fund. Then they picked up others who were fleeing for their lives, getting out of town just as ISIS arrived. Their harrowing journey took over ten hours, as they became part of a mass exodus of people fleeing for their lives. When the group finally reached safety, they were greeted by a church that was ready to help. This is a congregation in which The Joshua Fund has been investing. Indeed, one year earlier, with financial help from The Joshua Fund, the church had acquired a larger facility. The church leaders thought it would be used for various ministry events and functions, but God had His own plans. Now this larger space is being used to feed and give shelter to families who narrowly escaped from ISIS. This is just one of numerous ways the Lord has used your prayers and generous donations to provide real help to many believers throughout the Epicenter. SAVING CHILDREN IN THE EPICENTER, ONE HEART AT A TIME One of the ministries The Joshua Fund invests in is deeply dedicated to saving the lives of children in the Middle East who suffer from congenital heart defects. If treated early, children with these defects can often live a healthy life. But such medical care is not readily available in many Middle Eastern countries, or is prohibitively expensive. These dear ministry allies have developed a remarkable system of helping children from Arab nations receive lifesaving heart surgeries in Israel of all places! They work with Arab physicians who refer children for surgery. The ministry undertakes all transportation, documentation, housing, and financial needs for the patient and his or her family members during the treatment process and the time of recovery. They also provide a loving, Christcentered environment, prayer and true spiritual encouragement to the families. In 2014 alone, because of your help, The Joshua Fund provided the resources to pay for more than 30 children all from Arab families to receive life-saving medical care and life-transforming personal attention. What a joy to be able do such important work together. AUDIO BIBLES AND WINTER COATS With winter approaching for thousands of Iraqi refugees, efforts are underway to provide blankets and jackets to protect vulnerable families from the freezing temperatures. Many are now faced with the prospect of spending most of the winter in makeshift shelters. The Joshua Fund staff traveling to the region earlier this year recognized that in addition to winter supplies, refugees needed to discover the promises of love and hope contained in God s Word. 1,000+ Audio Bible sticks distributed in 2014 The Arab culture is an auditory learning society and a substantial number of the Christians displaced from their homes are illiterate. Working with key ministry partners in the Middle East and the U.S., The Joshua Fund is providing funding for thousands of winter coats for refugee families, as well as audio Bibles. 4

REST FOR THE WEARY Rockets, bomb shelters and gas masks. Israel continues to find itself on the frontlines of seemingly insurmountable obstacles to simple peace and security, as witnessed earlier this year in Gaza. There exists another critical frontline battle in Israel - the ongoing Gospel ministry among the believers in Jesus. The Joshua Fund works closely with pastors in the region, many who tirelessly fight this good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12) on a daily basis. We know that with much conflict can also come weariness and exhaustion. For the last six years, we have had the privilege of providing these faithful men an opportunity for a reprieve from the battle at a five-day retreat where they have been able to study God s Word, fellowship with other pastors and return home rested and rejuvenated. Personally, I was deeply moved and encouraged by the retreat, far beyond what I thought or imagined. It was genuinely a life-changing experience and made me realize how much we need to do things like this. A special thanks to The Joshua Fund. Israeli pastor We are grateful to you, our donors and prayer warriors, for providing the funding that helps Jewish and Arab pastors and ministry leaders in Israel to experience this kind of meaningful encouragement, fellowship and refreshment. DISTRIBUTION CENTERS We share the love of God by first showing the love of God. Since our founding in 2006, The Joshua Fund has invested millions of dollars in blessing Holocaust survivors, the elderly, single mothers, homeless people, widows, orphans, and other poor and needy Jews, Arabs and Christians through community Distribution Centers (DCs). In partnership with local congregations and other allies, we use a significant portion of our funding to order, stock, and provide food monthly to more than 3,600 families through 14 DCs located throughout Israel. The food is then provided through these centralized DCs or in some cases, by home delivery, to assist the poor and needy in the name of Jesus. These DCs are located in communities where local volunteers can distribute food and household items monthly to those in need. An added blessing gives local believers the opportunity to minister in a personal way within their local communities. We want to express our deep appreciation to you, Joel Rosenberg and The Joshua Fund Team for your support in these difficult financial times together we continue to touch thousands of lives here in Israel.
