Weekly E-News from Grace Episcopal Church May 26, 2016 Spotlight on Grace: Honoring Service and Sacrifice Each Memorial Day we honor, remember, and give thanks for all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. If you have not already taken special notice of the two historical war memorial plaques inside Grace Church, this is a terrific occasion on which to do so. And if you count relatives among those named upon either plaque, we would very much like to hear from you.

At the back of the church, near our indoor coffee hour area, you'll find a plaque dedicated In grateful memory of those from Grace Church who gave their lives for their country in World War II: William F. Arrighie Robert A. Cole Stephen M. Danforth Robert C. Harvey Russel P. Harvey John J. Hasselman Alfred A. Maybach William H. Monahan, III Charles D. Ruch Leslie E. Salisbury Carl V. Waterhouse Richard W. Whipple Oscar S. Wischnowsky Then follows a long list of Grace Church parishioners who served in World War II. At the front of the church, just to the left of the Eagle as you're facing the altar, please take note of the plaque from World War I. This Roll of Honor is inscribed: To those who gave their services to our country in The World War, Grace Church has placed this tablet as a grateful tribute, that remembrance of them may abide. Let us remember and give thanks for all those in every generation who have given their lives in service, and let us honor all members of the armed forces past and present, and the families who support them. A Prayer of Thanksgiving for Heroic Service: O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all the people of these lands share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. - from the Book of Common Prayer, p.839 This Week at Grace Worship services: Sunday 8:00am Holy Eucharist Sunday 10:00am Holy Eucharist with music Wednesday Noon Holy Eucharist

On June 5, following our last Sunday School class of the season, you are invited to join us for a picnic in India Point Park immediately following the 10AM service (at the playground between Gano St. entrance and the shoreline). Please bring your own lunch, and any other fun items you wish. Women's Prayer and Bible Study: The next Women's Prayer meeting, and the final one of the season, will be Saturday, June 11. The group will not meet May 28 of Memorial Day Weekend. Grace Church is OPEN to the Public each weekday from 11:00am until 2:00pm. Please tell your friends, co-workers, and visitors to stop by and explore this beautiful historic church. Our friendly docents will greet you with a smile.
