MEN OF INTEGRITY IN MASCULINITY MORALITY MARRIAGE MONEY MINISTRY MESSAGE

MEN OF INTEGRITY Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap Him in His words. They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. Teacher, they said, we know you are a man of integrity (*) and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren t swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then (Matthew 22:15-17; Mark. 12:14; NIV).

MEN OF INTEGRITY (*) Integrity = alethes: Unconcealed, transparent, truthful, trustworthy, no deception or concealment, genuine, real. Therefore, integrity means: No discrepancy between your inner man and your outer man. Between who you are publicly and who you are privately. Consistency between your Word and Deed Talk and Walk Belief and Behavior

MEN OF INTEGRITY Paul exhorted Titus: In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us (Titus 2:7-8).

OF MASCULINITY MAJESTY OF MASCULINITY: Man = The Glory of God Genesis 1:26-27: Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.

OF MASCULINITY MAJESTY OF MASCULINITY: Man = The Glory of God Psalm 8:3-7: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands, you put everything under his feet; all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim in the paths of the sea. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.

OF MASCULINITY MAJESTY OF MASCULINITY: Man = The Glory of God Psalm 139:13-14: You have created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made Psalm 82:6: I said, You are gods ; you are all sons of the Most High.

OF MASCULINITY MAJESTY OF MASCULINITY: Man = The Glory of God I Corinthians 11:7: A man is the image and glory of God but the woman is the glory of man (c.f. Genesis 5:1; Isaiah 43:7; James 3:9); Genesis 9:6: Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.

OF MASCULINITY MOTIVATIONS OF MASCULINITY: Individualism: It is not good for the man to be alone, I will make a helper for him (Genesis 2:18). Inactivity: Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, Did God really say? When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it (Genesis 3:1, 6). [Problem of Passivity in Spiritual headship]

OF MASCULINITY MOTIVATIONS OF MASCULINITY: Isolation: Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves (Genesis 3:7; loss of intimacy).

OF MASCULINITY MOTIVATIONS OF MASCULINITY: Insecurity: Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, Where are you? He answered, I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid (Genesis 3:7-10).

OF MASCULINITY MOTIVATIONS OF MASCULINITY: Irresponsibility: And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from? The man said, The woman You put here with me she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it (Genesis 3:11-12).

OF MASCULINITY MYTHS OF MASCULINITY: Hardness Myth = Tough macho unfeeling unemotional Hostility Myth = Created to fight go out to war kill tribalism genocide

OF MASCULINITY MYTHS OF MASCULINITY: Humanistic Myth = Deity of man; evolution from protoplasm to paradise Hedonistic Myth = Man created for pleasure; materialism and sex Homosexuality Myth = Normality of sexual perversion

OF MASCULINITY MODELS OF MASCULINITY: Jesus = Son of Man (Dan. 7:13; Matthew 2:28; 10:45; 14:62; Luke 9:58; 12:8; 18:8; 19:10) Philippians 2:6-7: Christ Jesus, Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross!

OF MASCULINITY MODELS OF MASCULINITY: I Corinthians 15:47-49: The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam, a lifegiving spirit The first man was of the dust of the earth, the Second Man from heaven And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the Man from heaven.

OF MASCULINITY MODELS OF MASCULINITY: I Timothy 2:5-6: For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men John 4:29 (Samaritan Woman): Come see a man Ephesians 4:13: become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

OF MORALITY Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. (James 1:21)

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: Proverbs 4:23: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 23:7: As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. Proverbs 27:19: As water reflects the face, so a man s heart reflects the man.

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: For as a man thinks (Lit. reckons in his soul ), so he is (NASV). Eyes = Windows of your soul Proverbs 4:25, 27: Let your eyes look straight ahead do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your froot from evil.

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: Proverbs 6:25: (Warning about an immoral woman or wayward wife): Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes (c.f. Proverbs 5:1-14).

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: Proverbs 23:26: My son, give me your heart and let your eyes keep to my ways, for a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well. Job 31:1: I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: II Samuel 11:2: (When kings were supposed to be at war) One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: Matthew 5:27, 29: You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. II Peter 2:14: (False Christians) With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning

OF MORALITY CONTEMPLATION: Key to Mental Victory II Corinthians 10:4-5 Romans 12:2 Philippians 4:8

CIRCUMCISION: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY Genesis 17:9-: Then God said to Abraham, As for you, you must keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is My covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep; Every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.

CIRCUMCISION: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household and circumcised them, as God told him. Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, and his son Ishmael was thirteen. Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day.

OF MORALITY CIRCUMCISION: Romans 4:11: (Abraham) received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe

OF MORALITY CIRCUMCISION: Romans 2:28-29: A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit

OF MORALITY CIRCUMCISION: Galatians 5:6: For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

COMPANIONS: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY Proverbs 1:10, 15-16, 18-19: My son, if sinners entice you (sinful friendships), do not give in to them for their feet rush into sin These men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves! Proverbs 13:20: He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

COMPANIONS: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY Proverbs 12:26: A righteous man is cautious in friendships Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so one man (friend) sharpens another. I Corinthians 15:33: Don t fool yourselves: Bad company corrupts good character. Example of Jesus: He prayed all night before He chose His Disciples (Luke 6:12-16)

OF MORALITY Principle: The choice of your closest friendships will determine the level of your success.

OF MORALITY CONVERSATION: James 3:1-12 Proverbs 4:24: Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Proverbs 10:11: The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life. Proverbs 12:18: Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

OF MORALITY CONVERSATION: Proverbs 16:23-24: A wise man s heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 18:21: The tongue has the power of life and death

OF MORALITY CONVERSATION: Matthew 12:34: For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

OF MORALITY CONVERSATION: Psalm 141:3: Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Colossians 4:6: Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Psalm 19:14: May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

CLOTHING: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY Luke 24:49: You are my witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

CLOTHING: INTEGRITY OF MORALITY Ephesians 4:20-24: You were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

OF MORALITY Colossians 3:1-14: Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

OF MORALITY Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

OF MORALITY Therefore, as God s chosen people, hold and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:1-14

CONCLUSIONS INTEGRITY OF MORALITY 1. God does not want us to be Men of Immaturity who are characterized by things like: ignorance, individualism, isolation, irresponsibility, idolatry, impurity and impotence. Men who are only sad imitations of masculinity and manhood. 2. He wants us to become Men of Integrity through our contemplation, circumcision, companions, conversation and clothing.

CONCLUSIONS INTEGRITY OF MORALITY 3. By these commitments we will become more and more mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). 4. Since Christ alone is the image of the invisible God and in Him all of the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form (Colossians 2:9) we can ONLY reach our full manhood in Him.

OF MORALITY CONCLUSIONS 5. As Paul said: In Him you have been made complete (Colossians 2:10). 6. Also, it is only In Christ that you enjoy and experience the following spiritual realities described by Paul:

OF MORALITY CONCLUSIONS 7. In Him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ (Colossians 2:11-14).

OF MORALITY CONCLUSIONS 8. And once you have been made alive with Christ through the new birth, God wants you to grow up in all things into Him who is the Head, that is Christ (Ephesians 4:15).

OF MORALITY CONCLUSIONS 9. Only Jesus was a perfectly mature Man. Only He lived a life of perfect integrity that glorified God in everything He did and said. So only in Him and through Him can you increasingly become a Man of Integrity.

CONCLUSIONS INTEGRITY OF MORALITY 10. And only as a Man of Integrity will these truths be a reality in your masculinity, morality, money, marriage, ministry and message: The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out (Proverbs 10:9). The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity (Proverbs 11:3). Righteousness guards the man of integrity; but wickedness overthrows the sinner (Proverbs 13:6). A good name is more desirable than great riches, to be esteemed is better than silver or gold (Proverbs 22:1). The righteous are as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 1. LANGUAGE A. (Creation of woman) This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man (Genesis 2:23). B. Ear gate = aroused & nurtured C. Song of Solomon

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 2. LEAVING A. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 2. LEAVING B. (Repeated by Jesus) For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Then Jesus added: So they are no longer two but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate (Matthew 19:5-6).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 2. LEAVING C. (Echoed by Paul) For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh (Ephesians 5:31).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 3. LEADING A. (Moses of God) In your unfailing love you will lead the people You have redeemed (Exodus 15:13). B. (Good Shepherd) He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul (Psalm 23:2).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 3. LEADING C. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. (Isaiah 40:11)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 3. LEADING D. (Good Shepherd) He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out he goes on ahead of them and his sheep follow him because they know his voice (John 10:3-4) E. Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. (1 Corinthians 11:3)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 4. LOVING A. Husbands, love (agape) your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). B. Husbands love your wives and do not be harsh with them (Colossians 3:19).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 4. LOVING C. Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral (Hebrews 12:4). D. (Bride) He has taken me to his banquet hall, and his banner over me is love (Song of Solomon 2:4).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 5. LABORING A. God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground. (Genesis 1:28)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 5. LABORING B. To Adam He said, Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, You must not eat of it, Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life (Genesis 3:17).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 5. LABORING C. husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church each one of you must love his wife as he loves himself (Ephesians 5:29-33).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 6. LEARNING A. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives ( live with your wives in an understanding way; Gk. = gnosin; lit. according to knowledge; with understanding NASV), and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers (1 Peter 3:7).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 6. LEARNING B. Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds (Proverbs 27:23).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 6. LEARNING C. I am the true vine, and My Father is the Gardener [or Husbandman ; KJV: Means: to tend carefully ]. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you [Clean = katharos, or free from impurity; admixture; without spot or blemish ] (John 15:1-3).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 6. LEARNING D. Since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fill his marital duty [ affection due her NKJV; or conjugal rights ]to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of selfcontrol (I Corinthians 7:2-5).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 7. LISTENING A. The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice (Proverbs 12:15). B. Everyone should be quick to listen and slow to speak, and slow to become angry (James 1:19).

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH Remember: Listening is the first act of loving.

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 8. LAVISHING A. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ in accordance with the riches of God s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure (Ephesians 1:3)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE A HUSBAND LOVES THROUGH 8. LAVISHING B. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God (I John 3:1). C. I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well. (II Corinthians 12:14)

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE CONCLUSIONS 1. These principles of Integrity in Marriage show why polygamy is impossible from a spiritual, emotional and physical standpoint. 2. No man can come close to fulfilling all of these duties and responsibilities to more than one woman!

IN MARRIAGE HOW A HUSBAND IS TO LOVE HIS WIFE CONCLUSIONS 3. While a man is capable of having sexual intercourse with many women he cannot be a responsible Biblical husband to more than one woman. 4.
