FOCUS ON THE INNIE, NOT THE OUTIE 2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-18
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17 16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,
2 CORINTHIANS 4:18 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
1.Our outie is decaying (2 Corinthians 4:16a; Galatians 5:19-21)
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16A 16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying,
GALATIANS 5:19-20 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: [i] immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, [j] factions,
GALATIANS 5:21 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1.Our outie is decaying 2. Our innie should be growing (2 Corinthians 4:16b; Galatians 5:22-23; John 15:5-8)
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16 16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
GALATIANS 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law
JOHN 15:5, 8 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so [d] prove to be My disciples
1.Our outie is decaying 2.Our innie should be growing 3. Our innie and outie are in constant battle (Galatians 5:16-18; Romans 8:5-8)
GALATIANS 5:16-17 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh [g] sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you [h] please.
GALATIANS 5:18 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
ROMANS 8:5-6 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
ROMANS 8:7-8 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
1. Our outie is decaying 2. Our innie should be growing 3. Our innie and outie are in constant battle 4. Our innie must prevail (Romans 13:14; Galatians 5:24-25; 1 John 2:15-17; Ephesians 2:1-5; 4:29; Romans 8:9; 2 Corinthians 4:17-18; 5:9)
ROMANS 13:14 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
GALATIANS 5:24-25 24 Now those who [k] belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also [l] walk by the Spirit.
GALATIANS 5:26 26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another
1 JOHN 2:15-16 15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
EPHESIANS 2:1-2 And you [a] were dead [b] in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the [c] course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
EPHESIANS 2:3-4 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, [d] indulging the desires of the flesh and of the [e] mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
EPHESIANS 2:5 5 even when we were dead [f] in our transgressions, made us alive together [g] with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
ROMANS 8:9 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
COLOSSIANS 3:17 17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:9 9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
EPHESIANS 4:29 29 Let no [u] unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification [v] according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
1. Our outie is decaying 2. Our innie should be growing 3. Our innie and outie are in constant battle 4. Our innie must prevail 5. Our innie will affect our outie (Romans 8:1-2; Colossians 3:12-14)
ROMANS 8:1-2 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [a] in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
COLOSSIANS 3:12-13 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and [k] patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
EPHESIANS 6:10-11 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
EPHESIANS 6:12-13 12 For our struggle is not against [e] flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
