Prelude Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain E. Broughton Christ is Alive T. Williams WELCOME P: Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! Please stand THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM P: Just as God s work of creation never ends, so the gifts received in baptism are renewed every day. P: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life: for water to bathe in, water to drink, for waters to play in and waters that inspire wonder, for water that gives life to our planet. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life. P: We give you thanks, O God for the waters of this place: for water from the rivers and aquifers, snow and rain. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place. P: We give you thanks for your salvation through water: for delivering Noah and his family through the floodwaters, for leading your people Israel through the sea into freedom, for preserving your prophet Elijah through the time of drought, for quenching the Samaritan woman s thirst with living water. C: We give you thanks for your salvation through water. 1

P: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized, and for all who gather here; for baptismal sponsors, for children and grandchildren, for our brothers and sisters in Christ whom we have never seen but to whom we are bound. C: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized. P: We give you thanks for life in Christ through your Holy Spirit: for our entry into Jesus death through these waters of baptism, for our new birth into a life of freedom and service, for our calling to be your people, sent out for the life of the world. C: We give you thanks, blessed and holy Trinity, now and forever. 2

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray, God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. WORD A Reading from Jeremiah L: 1 At that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. 2 Thus says the LORD: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, 3 the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. 4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall take your tambourines, and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. 5 Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. 6 For there shall be a day when sentinels will call in the hill country of Ephraim: "Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.". (Jeremiah 31:1-6) 5

L: Word of God. Word of Life. C: Thanks be to God. Please stand for the reading of the Gospel P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew C: Glory to you, O Lord. P: After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.' This is my message for you." 8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." (Matthew 28:1-10) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you O Christ. Please be seated CHILDREN S MESSAGE & NOISY OFFERING Offering will be going to ELCA World Hunger 6

SERMON Please stand Easter Like You Mean It Rev. Sylvia High Karlsson SERMON SONG Christ Is Risen! Alleluia! ELW #382 Text: John S. B. Monsell, 1811-1875, alt. Music: Frederick C. Maker, 1844-1927. Text and Music Public Domain 7

NICENE CREED L: With the whole church, let us confess our faith. C: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 8

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P: Rejoicing in the risen life of Christ, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need. A brief silence. L: We pray for the church. Unite all Christians in our shared calling to proclaim the gospel. Raise up women and men to serve as faithful leaders. Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer. L: For the nations. Bring peace to communities torn apart by warfare. Guide all refugees to safety. Bolster the courage of those who face danger to preserve the lives of others. Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer. L: For those in need. Shelter the homeless. Protect those who suffer abuse or neglect. Befriend the lonely. Give peace to the dying, comfort the grieving, and heal the sick. Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer. L: With thanksgiving, we remember those who have died and all who hear the Easter promise of resurrection and life. Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer. P: Joining our voices with your faithful ones in every time and place, we offer our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen. 9

EXCHANGE OF PEACE P: The peace of Christ be with you always. C: And also with you. We greet one another in the name of the Lord using words such as, Peace be with you. Please be seated MEAL OFFERING Hallelujah! Resurrection Day! Larry Shackley Chancel Choir 10

GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. PREFACE P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin; who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 12

Holy, Holy, Holy WORDS OF INSTITUTION P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be all honor and glory, now and forever. C: Amen 13

THE LORD S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Communion will be by intinction. You will be given a wafer to dip in the wine or grape juice. If you wish a gluten-free wafer please come to the center station. Wine is red and grape juice is white. Everyone is invited and encouraged to come and share in this gift of love. Welcome to Christ s table, the gifts of God for the people of God. Please be seated Lamb of God 14
