Our Mission Statement We, the faith community of Saint Clement parish, of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, established in Dartmouth in 1955 and, truly rooted in the Catholic faith, proclaim our belief in the message and mission of Jesus Christ. We are committed to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. We seek to live out this belief as a community of worship, of shared faith and of service where each member shares with others the gifts and talents received from God. We seek to develop and encourage a community of faith open to responding in kind to the abundant love of God and to the needs of our parishioners and neighbouring community through our proclamation of the Gospel and giving witness to it through our lives and our participation in the sacraments centering our lives on the Eucharist. welcoming of all parishioners, existing and newcomers, with open arms and without judgment. reaching out with love and compassion to those in need. embracement of activities that build and strengthen the present and future foundations of our faith, including evangelization, education, liturgy, ecumenism and the spiritual, economic and social development of all people. Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary July 31st, 2016 From Father Gerald Summer Schedule As we continue to enjoy the beautiful summer we have been given, I pray you experience the rest, relaxation and rejuvenation that is afforded us. With August beginning tomorrow we look to some of the planning for the Fall season. All of this is good the summer rest and fall planning I pray both work well to provide good visioning. Have a Blessed, Peaceful, Joyful and Safe August!! FYI Arrival of Chris LePage In September we at St. Clement Parish will have the opportunity to welcome Chris LePage, who will be in residence. Chris has been accepted by the Archdiocese as a candidate in discernment for ordination. Beginning in September, Chris will join us for the pastoral part of his program with the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. Another portion of his time will be with the theological program which will be in Halifax. Let us pray for Chris as we anticipate and prepare to welcome him to our Parish and to our Archdiocese. A personal introduction will come in September as Chris begins his time with us here at St. Clement. The Altar as Honouring the Martyrs All the dignity of the altar rest on it s being the Lord s table the Altar is Christ. The Altar does honour to the Martyrs tomb. Therefore it is the tradition in our Church to deposit the relics of the saints beneath Altars as a mark of respect and as a symbol of the truth that the Sacrifice of the members has its source in the Sacrifice of the Head. (Excerpt taken from Rite of Dedication of a Church and an Altar, 1978) On Thursday, July 21, we placed the altar stone containing the relics of St. Clement and St. Urban Popes and Martyrs in the early Church. During the Mass we prayed the Litany of the Saints, in which we invoked the intercession of the Saints who have given their lives over to Christ. And at each Mass we pay honour to these men and women, whose source of life was found in the Sacrifice of Christ. I would like to thank Jerry Casey and Dennis Smith for preparing the Altar to receive the Altar Stone. Weekday Mass Schedule (Tuesday) Throughout the summer we continue to celebrate our masses each Sunday with the Anticipated Sunday mass on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 10am. Throughout the week we offer an opportunity for many of our parishioners and visitors from other areas to join us at weekday mass. In the summer we offered an evening Mass on Tuesday at 7pm to allow those who may be occupied during the day with the option to come to celebrate with us in the evening. This Mass will continue throughout the year at 7pm. Tuesday evening Mass will also allow those attending various meetings that evening to begin their meeting with the Eucharist. To seek God s graces, blessings, vision and counsel to assist us in our involvement and to place our various intentions before the Lord in the Sacrifice of the Mass....for one s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. Then Jesus told them a parable: The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops? Then he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry But God said to him, You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be? So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God....The parable Jesus tells in the gospel reading today calls on us to be on guard against all kinds of greed, striving for what matters to God, not seeking an abundance of possessions as our life s purpose. Meaning in our all-too-short lives comes from one source and one source alone, God. Michael Dougherty, Whitehorse, YT Sunday Missal pg. 487 Todays Gospel: Luke 12: 13-21

St. Clement Pastoral Council Information Fair and BBQ September 18th after the 10am Mass Please join us for something to eat from the barbeque, which is sponsored by our Knights of Columbus, and come take a look around at our ministry tables. You can find out all kinds of things about who does what in our parish and maybe even find something you would like to be part of. We look forward to seeing our parish family members for a bit of food, and fellowship! RCIA The R.C.I.A., or catechumenate, is a prolonged period of training in discipleship. It is carried out in 4 ways; catechesis, formation, liturgy and mission. It was designed for non-baptized adults and youth, and includes those who were baptized but not catechized, and those baptized in another faith tradition who desire to be in full communion with the Catholic Church. There is a process of a period of inquiry and discernment, followed by the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. If you or someone you know would be interested in finding out more information about the RCIA, you can contact Corinne Casey, Director of Faith Formation, at the parish office or by emailing: corinnecasey57@gmail.com. CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD There has been interest expressed in starting up the Liturgy of the Word for young children of the ages of 2 to 7 years of age. I would need to form a team of committed persons to lead and assist with this endeavor. If you are interested, in committing to this endeavor, we hope to begin soon. Please contact me by email at corinecasey57@gmail.com DOORS AND LIGHTS If you are the last person to leave the church building, we ask that you please double check that all doors are locked and all lights are turned off. Thank you. REFUGEE COMMITTEE UPDATE Thank you, everyone at St.Clement's, for your overwhelming support! It is because of you that we are able to stay motivated and to continue to work hard to reunite Fatima and her family with her family members who came to Canada in a government sponsorship last January. We completed the final phase of our Pledge Fund for the Syrian Refugee Sponsorship Program on July 16,17. Thank you for your tremendous and unrelenting support. We are happy to report that through your generosity we are now at approximately 80 per cent of our target goal. We will still receive donations if you wish to do so. There are envelopes left on the table at the back of the church. Cheques and envelopes should be made out to St. Clement Refugee Fund. If friends and family wish to donate they will need to leave an address in order to receive an income tax receipt. Parishioners, please include your envelope number. Donations can be put in the regular collection or left at the rectory. St. Clement's had a great turn out at Finbar's Irish pub on Portland Street. The food was excellent and we truly had a nice time. According to the Finbars Manager it was one of the largest groups they have had for a fund raising event. We raised a total of $548.00. St. Clement Refugee Committee has set up an account at the recycle depot on Portland Street if you wish to donate your recyclables to this cause. Our Refugee Family BLESSED MOTHER TERESA...With the Nobel Peace Prize money, we built homes for the poor because I only accepted the prize in the name of and as a representative of the poor. Whoever is dependent on his or her money or worries about it, is truly a poor person. If that person places his or her money at the service of others, then the person becomes rich, very rich indeed. I fear just one thing: money! Greed - the love of money - was what motivated Judas to sell Jesus. Taken from Mother Teresa - In my own words

STEUBENVILLE : GRATEFUL FOR 10 YEARS Steubenville renewed my faith and sense of belonging to the Church and to Christ. Samantha This summer marked our 10th Steubenville Atlantic conference organized by the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. During this time the conference has served almost 7,000 young people and chaperones (6,968) and donated $14,429 to Chalice in support of youth-serving community projects around the globe. The effect of the conference over such a long period has borne many spiritual fruits, through deeper conversion to Christ, vocations to married life and religious life, leaders in ministry, and leaders in the world. In a time when many parishes ask what can we do for our young people? the Steubenville Atlantic conference has proven to be one way in which Church can support the work of parents and parishes in forming young disciples of Jesus Christ. Steubenville Atlantic is part of a network of 24 conferences done in partnership with Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, which serve over 40,000 young people annually. We thank God for the tremendous blessing of these conference for our local Church. We are also grateful to the many people who took the risk of taking a bus load of young people to Steubenville East at the Our Lady of La Salette Shrine in Attleboro, Massachusetts in 2001. That first group grew every year for five years, when five buses and nearly 300 people from the diocese made the journey to the small shrine just outside of Boston. Those young people and chaperones formed the nucleus of our first Steubenville Atlantic conference in 2007 and were joined by hundreds of others from across Atlantic Canada. Overall, the Steubenville conferences have been impacting our youth and blessing our Church for fifteen years. To put that in perspective, a first time attendee this year was not even born when that first group took the risk to go to a conference. Truly, this ministry has impacted a generation of young Catholics. The work of reaching another generation has already started as we prepare of next year s conference on July 7-9, 2017, with the theme Elevate. Please pray for God s continued blessing on this ministry.
