He was married to Miss Rebecca Kurtz on the 12th of April, 1855. To this union were born six children, four of whom with their mother, and four grandchildren survive him. He moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio with his parents in 1844. From there he removed to Wayne Co., where he was married. He moved to Champaign Co., in 1874, where he lived until his removal to West Liberty four years ago. He was for many years a member of the Amish church and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a man always true to his calling, and by his death the family has been bereft of a kind and indulgent husband and father, and the community of a good citizen. He was devoted to his life partner, and she to him. His children reverenced him, and cherish the memory of their father. He lived peaceably with all men until the good Lord was pleased to take him home where parting is no more. He died at his home in West Liberty, Ohio, May 14th, 1897, after a long illness of kidney trouble, in the eighty-first year of his age. The funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, at his late residence on West Columbus Street. A large concourse of people were present. David Blyth, paster of the Presbyterian church, preached the sermon, his 8

text being 1 Cor. 15:19, 20. Appropriate remarks were also made by Pre. David Hilty, pastor of the Mennonite church. Interment in the Fair View cemetery. To-night we are thinking, dear father, of the grief that has come to our home; How you left us in silence one afternoon, you left us in silence and gloom. At your sick-bed, dear husband, I watched with the tenderest care, Through the weary days that you suffered, while my heart was uplifted in prayer. We loved thee, dear husband and father, and would have wished thee stay; But let the Father's will be done, 'twill shine in endless day. J.A. JOHN E. 4 MILLER (DAVID D. 3, JACOB 2, LUDWIG 1 MUELLER) was born Abt. 1848 in Ohio, and died 02 Oct 1911 in Wayne Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana. He married (1) MARGARET T. BOSE 04 Nov 1871 in Noble County, Indiana. She was born 17 Jun 1852, and died 14 Mar 1875 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. He married (2) REBECCA WEIMER 10 Oct 1875 in Kosciusko County, Indiana, daughter of JOSEPH WEIMER and HANNAH HURRAH. She was born 02 Sep 1850 in Ohio, and died 07 Jan 1906. Notes for JOHN E. MILLER: From "Kosciusko County, Indiana 1836-1986" John and Rebecca (Weimer) Miler There are many Millers in Kosciusko County and it is difficult to connect them. It has been said that they originally came from Germany, although I pass this along as a possibility and not a fact proven by this writer. On 10 October 1875 John E. Miller married his second wife, Rebecca Weimer, who was born in 1850 and died 7 Jan 1906, the daughter of Joseph D. Weimer and Hannah Hurrah. There were at least five children; Cara, who died at the age of twelve of a head injury; Clyde; Clarence "Mellie," who married Bessie M. Ritter and moved to Oklahoma to work in the oil fields; Otto, who married twice and died in 1957 in Kosciusko County, and Leslie, who left the area. John was in disfavor with many family members so he left for Canada to homestead but came back eventually when he became ill. His son Frank, from his first marriage to Martha Bose, met him at the train station and took him to the County Home where he eventually died alone. Perry C. Miller married Grace Angel, daughter of Perry Angel and Polly Ann Mock. Clyde was a farmer and traveled to do thrashing. He was also a carpenter; however it was grace who, in later years after he died, rebuilt the small family home after it burned down across from Oak Grove Cemetery, east of North Webster. They had three children: Madge W., born in 1910 and married Leonard Vanator. She died from complications in 1939 at McDonald Hospital during a gallbladder operation; Ordie, the only son; and Dorothy, born in 1908, who married Arthur Hoadley and moved to Elkhart where they had three children. Ordie Miller was born 29 November 1906 and married Dorothy Quine, daughter of Clayton Quine and Edith Archer of Dutchtown. They lived in Kosciusko County and moved to Elkhart in 1943 where Ordie worked as an auto mechanic for many years. He died May 1969. They had two children: Nancy born 9 March 1935 in the home of Grace Angel Miller outside of North Webster. She married Edmund C. Consolo whom she met at Manchester College and they now live in Carnation, Washington having four grown children. Shirley, the youngest was born 15 February 1938 in Kosciusko County. Shirley Married Byron Wedge Jr. and later John Gallay. She has two grown sons and lives in Elkahrt at this writing. Shirley Gallay, Elkhart, Indiana. * * * * * * * * 10

Containg Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens of the Counties, Together with Biographies of all of the Governors of the State, and of the Presidents of the United States". Biographical Publishing Company, Chicago, 1891. Page 698. John J. Fritz In this gentleman we are pleased to call to the notice of our readers, one of the most prominent of the German American citizens of Ridge Township, Shelby County. He is thoroughly German in his sturdy industry, integrity, and thrift, and American in his determination to make this land of freedon a happy home for himself and his posterity. His Excellent farm bears the marks of thorough culture and good management, and the neatness and convenience of the buildings are a compliment to the owner which is more effective than words. John Jacob Fritz, Sr., the father of our subject, was a native of Wurtemberg, Germany and came to this country and died in Ridge Township. His wife bore the name of Rosanna Clay, who was a native of Wurtemberg, and she also passed away in this township. Of their twelve children, our subjectwas the third in order of age, being born in Wurtemberg, Germany, March 19, 1833, and emigrating at the very early age of four weeks to a new world. They first settled in Lancaster County, Pa., and there made their home for three years, after which they went to Ohio, and lived in Morgan County, until a short time before their death, when they removed to Shelby County, Ill. He of whom we write, lived at home until he was eighteen years old, and then removed to Fairfield County, Ohio, and worked upon a farm until he came to Shelby County, in the fall of 1860. He then rented the land which he now owns in Ridge Township, and brought on his wife whom he had been united in Fairfield County, Ohio, in February, 1858. Her maiden name was Barbara Sauder, and she was born in Wayne County, Ohio in September, 1841. After five years of renting, the young man purchased two hundred and twenty acres and he has now as fine 18

an improved farm as is to be found in the township, upon which he erected a house and other excellent farm buildings. His farm has been increased from time to time by purchases until it now comprises six hundred and sixty acres. Mr. and Mrs. Fritz lost two son, William and Simon, in infancy. Those who survive are: John B., who married Emma Eversole; Lizzie, the wife of Clinton Eversole; James; Ella, who married Charles Beery; Edward, Samuel, and Charles B. The parents are members of the Evangelical Association in which Mr. Fritz has filled the offices of Steward, Trustee, and Class-Leader. His politcal views incline him to believe that in the priciples of the Democratic party are to be found the best governmental ideas. He has officiated as Highway Commissioner and as School Director and in both capacities has served faithfully and efficiently. * * * * * * * * Margaret Fritz Schmechel http://genforum.genealogy.com/fritz/messages/1004.html Hi! I have a lot of information for you! First, let me introduce myself: I am the great granddaughter of John B. Fritz, the great-great granddaughter of the John J. Fritz you are looking for. My dad, James S. Fritz, was born in Decatur, Illinois. He had cousins in Shelby county, the Eversoles. His father was William Lawrence Fritz, son of John B. Fritz of Shelby county. Next, some corrections to your information. One thing I'm absolutely sure of is that one of the children was named James W. not Jason W. I know this because my Dad grew up knowing James W. as his Uncle Jim and was named after him. James W. was married to Charlotte Stare Fritz, my dad's aunt Lottie. They lived in Decatur too. I would guess the rest of my information is correct too, since I've seen it in more than one source. The children were: John B., (married Emma Florence Eversole), Elizabeth A. (married Clinton Eversole), James W. (married Charlotte Stare), Ella S. (married Charles Beery), Edward J. (married Rhoda I. Yost), Samuel (married Rosetta May Evick), Charles B. (married Alma Yantis), and two who died in infancy, William and Simon. Also, John Jacob Fritz's wife was named Barbara Sauder or sauders or souders. Try those. John J. Fritz was born in Wurttemberg, Germany in 1833 and came to America as a baby only a few months old. His father was John Jacob Fritz, senior. His mother was Rosanna Clay. They went first to Lancaster county, Pensylvania, then to Fairfield County, Ohio. Then in 1874 a group migrated to Shelby County, Illinois including the Fritz family and the Eversole family. This is most of what I know. I can give dates and some other info if you want. Let me know what you find out! More About JACOB J.
