Let there be light Your Will Not Mine Be Done (Reflection on Matthew 21:28-32) A man had two sons. This line is reminiscent of the opening line of the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The construction of the sentence really places the emphasis on the man, the father - being the subject. In this parable, the father commands his two sons to go out and to work in the vineyard. In other words, the father makes known his will to his sons and desires that both his sons do his will. Living out our faith: As part of reflection on Scripture passages, one must ask, God, what do you want me to do? Then, go and do God s will. He came to the first and said, Son, go out and work in the vineyard today. He said in reply, I will not, but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, Yes, sir, but did not go. The two sons initial responses to their father s will were different from their final actions. No explanation is given, which helps us focus only on the difference between their initial and latter responses. The scenario is very human; it reflects the human tendency to vacillate from one pole to another. Living out our faith: Make prayer the initial part of your every discernment. Ask God for guidance, and take the time to listen to Him. Which of the two did his father's will? In the end, Jesus question brings us back to the subject, that is, father and his will: who brought to fulfillment the will of the father? Living out our faith: Reflect the image and likeness of God in your thoughts, words and actions. In other words, follow the way of Jesus. Let Jesus on the cross be the standard. This October The month of October will be offering us tremendous amount of opportunities to celebrate our Christian faith. See the front page for details. First and foremost, it is the other Marian month. And so, we recognize our Blessed Mother at Mass by singing Marian hymns as recessional hymns. Also, we will be asking our Blessed Mother her intercession at the end of the Prayer of the Faithful. Second, we offer the first of our Enrichment Series for Parents and Catechists. May these encounters further inspire parents and catechists to pass on our faith to our children. Third, we will be launching our parish efforts to promote vocation awareness. We will be joined by two religious from the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. It is my hope that all of our children and teens would have the opportunity to meet them. Fourth, we will be offering 40 Hour Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Families, do take the time to visit with your children even for a few minutes. Adults, visit with friends and colleagues in your respective ministries. Last but not the least, be present consistently present at the weekend Masses. It is this time of the year when we take a census of our attendance at Mass. It matters that each of us be counted. - Father Edison
