WELCOME AND PRAYER Estimated time: 5 minutes Tech: Life Point slide, Bible Verse slide People: Bible Study Leader Props: family picture in frame BIBLE STUDY LEADER It s great to see you today. Thanks for singing and praising God with us. Today, I have something to show you. It s a picture. (Show kids the back of the picture frame.) This picture is so special, that I have put it in a frame to keep it safe. Before I show you what it is, I m going to tell you what this picture is NOT. Although I like my house, this is not a picture of my house. And, although I like my dog, this is not a picture of my dog. There are a lot of things I like, but this picture is of something that I love. It is of something God made. (Show kids the front of the picture.) It is my family! We have learned about all of the things God made. Last week we learned that God made people. He made a man and a woman. Today, our Bible story tells us more about those same people. Although we do not have a framed picture of them, they are important because they were the very first family. The Bible tells us that something we can do is show love to the people in our family. Let s hear our Bible verse today. BIBLE VERSE (SELECT PREFERRED VERSION): Show love to family members. Romans 12:10 (Paraphrase) Show family affection to one another with brotherly love. Romans 12:10 (HCSB) Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love. Romans 12:10 (KJV) Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Romans 12:10 (NIV) Love one another with brotherly affection. Romans 12:10 (ESV) Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love. Romans 12:10 (NKJV) Can we say the verse together? (Lead kids to say the verse.) We can show love to our dads, moms, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Whew! That s a lot of people! WORSHIP Another thing we can do when we think of our family is thank God for them. Let s pray right now and thank God for the people in our families. Dear God, thank You for everything You made. We praise You for Your creation! Thank You for our families. Thank You for giving us people that care about us and that love us. Help us to show love to them! In Jesus name, amen. I wonder how many people are in Imogene s family. Let s watch and see. (Bible study leader leaves.) IMOGENE IMAGINES Estimated time: 5-7 minutes Tech: Imogene Imagines video People: none (Play the video.) CONNECTION POINTGAME Estimated time: 10 minutes Tech: Connection Point Game slide People: Connection Point Leader, 2 teams of kids Props: pacifier, backpack, necktie, purse, hairbow, earphones, whisk, curling iron, ball cap, sippy cup, 2 laundry baskets, 1 foam ball, 2 pieces of paper, tape GAME INSTRUCTIONS: Before the session, place the props on a table. Print YES and draw a smiley face on one piece of paper. Print NO and draw a sad face on the other piece of paper. Tape each piece to a laundry basket. Choose two kids to each hold a laundry basket. Hold up each item and ask if a certain family member would use the item. BIBLE STUDIES FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL WORSHIP UNIT 1 SESSION 4 3

Enlist kids to toss the ball into the basket labeled YES or NO. CONNECTION POINT LEADER (Show Connection Point Game slide.) Hi, friends! Welcome to Connection Point. Can you copy me as I move my head. (Nod your head up and down, shake your head no, bend your head in a circle, tilt your head to the left, tilt your head to the right.) Good job! Today I m going to ask you some questions and the only answers are YES (nod head) or NO (shake head). I also need some help with these items. I need ten people. (Choose ten kids to come to the front. Introduce each child.) I m going to show you an item. Then I m going to ask you if a certain person in your family might use this item. If the answer is YES, then toss the ball into the laundry basket with the YES smiley face. If the answer is NO, then toss it in the laundry basket with the NO sad face. OK, listen and answer my question by tossing the ball. (Each child should toss the ball into the laundry basket labeled with the correct answer. Invite kids to cheer if the ball lands in the basket. Take the ball out of the basket and hand it to the next child for the next question.) (Hold up each item as you ask about it.) ŜWould Ŝ a grandma use a pacifier? (no) ŜWould Ŝ a 1st grader use a backpack? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a dad wear a tie? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a mom use a purse? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a 3rd grade boy wear a hairbow? (no) ŜWould Ŝ a teenager listen to earphones? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a baby use a knife? (no) ŜWould Ŝ a 16 year old girl use a curling iron? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a grandma wear a ball cap? (yes) ŜWould Ŝ a teenager use a sippy cup (no) Great job! Today our story is about the first family. Do you remember the name of the man and woman that God created? (Allow for responses.) Adam and Eve were part of the very first family. After we sing today, we will hear who else was in their family. (Connection Point Leader leaves.) WORSHIP SONG WORSHIP Estimated time: 3 minutes Tech: Music video, mics for singers, lights (optional) Music: God s Love (lead sheet available on DVD-ROM) or download a worship song of your choice People: Worship Leader and/or Worship Team WORSHIP LEADER (Show the music video. Kids stand to sing.) I am so glad that God made families. Do you ever sing songs with your family? I do. We love to sing praise songs, hymns, and even silly songs. Let s stand and sing a song together. (Lead kids to sit as song ends.) BIBLE STORY Estimated time: 10 minutes Tech: Christ Focus, Life Point, and Bible Story slides; Bible Story Corner video (optional) People: Bible Story Leader, seven kids Props: Bible, family picture in frame (Play the Bible Story Corner video or tell the following Bible story.) BIBLE STUDY LEADER (Show Bible Story slide.) Do you remember the picture I showed you earlier? Here it is again. (Show picture.) Can you help me count the number of people in my family? (Count aloud with kids.) Yes! Now, raise your hand if you have the same number of people in your family. Raise your hand if you have more people in your family. Now raise your hand if you have less people in your family. Today we are going to hear about four people in the first family. Our story is in the Book of Genesis. (Open the Bible and read a paraphrase of Genesis 4:1-2.) The man, Adam, and the woman, Eve had a baby boy. They named him Cain. Then, Adam and Eve had BIBLE STUDIES FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL WORSHIP UNIT 1 SESSION 4 4

a second son and they named him Abel. Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel were the first family. Cain grew up to be a farmer. He grew all kinds of plants and vegetables. Abel grew up to be a shepherd. He took care of all kinds of sheep. It came time to give an offering to the Lord. Cain presented some of his produce as an offering to the Lord. Abel also presented the firstborn of his flock as an offering. God received Abel s offering, but He did not receive Cain s offering. This made Cain very mad. God asked Cain why he was so angry. God told Cain that he should do what was right. (Show Life Point slide.) God planned for Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel to be a family. God planned this because God made families. Say this with me: God made families. (Pause and then repeat.) God made families. (Show kids your family photo again.) God made my family, and God made your family. God made all of our families. (Show Christ Focus slide.) God planned for every person to be part of a family. He knew that families would not always obey Him, just like Cain didn t obey Him. That s why many years later, God sent Jesus to the earth. God sent Jesus because He loves us and wants us to follow His plan. God created the entire world. He created so many wonderful things. God wants us to take care of His creation. He also wants us to thank and praise Him for the things He made. A great way to thank and praise God is through prayer. Let s pray and thank God for the world and all of the things He made. Dear God, thank You for Your creation. Thank You for making people to live in families. We thank You for our families and we thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus to the earth. We love You. In Jesus name, amen. WORSHIP SONG AND OFFERING Estimated time: 3 minutes Tech: Mics for singers, lights (optional) Music: Use a favorite upbeat song or download a worship song of your choice People: Worship Leader and/or Worship Team WORSHIP LEADER WORSHIP Another way we can thank God for His creation is by singing a song of praise to Him. Let s do that now. Optional Giving Segment: Today in our story, Cain and Abel gave an offering to God. We can show love to God by giving Him an offering, too. Our offering is not vegetables or animals. We can give money. We give so other people can know more about God. If you would like to give an offering today, (Give your own directions for how the kids can give their offerings.) (After collecting the offering, guide kids to stand for the remainder of the worship song.) Let s sing and thank God for His creation. Stand with me. CONNECTION POINT BIBLE VERSE Estimated time: 5-8 minutes Tech: Connection Point Bible verse slide, Bible Verse slide People: Connection Point leader, all kids ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS: Kids will be placed in groups and will say the verse as if they were a certain family member. CONNECTION POINT LEADER (Show Connection Point Bible Verse slide.) Hi there! Welcome back to Connection Point! Who remembers what we have talked about today? God made the first. (Allow for responses) Yes! God made the first family. But God also made your family and my family. (Show Bible Verse slide.) One thing God wants us to do is show love to our family. Let s say our verse together. (Lead kids to say verse.) Great! Now, I m going to place you in a group and I want you to work together as a group to say the verse in a special way. (Divide the kids into 4 groups. Kids can either stay where they are or form circles in the corners of the room.) CONNECTION POINT LEADER (Play the Dentists on the Lake missions video immediately after the Connection Point Bible Verse activity.) WORSHIP That is amazing. I can hardly imagine what it would be like to live in a floating village. What a neat place. I m glad some dentists and doctors have traveled to the huge lake to help people. Let s pray that many people will hear about Jesus. Dear God, Thank You for the people who live in the floating village on the lake. Thank You for the dentists and doctors who travel to Cambodia to help the people. We pray that the people would understand how they can trust in Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus name, amen. OK, our first group today is going to say the verse as if they were babies. Our second group is going to say the verse as if they were teenagers. Our third group is going to say the verse as if they were moms. And, our fourth group is going to say the verse as if they were grandpas. Everyone think of a way as you stand and say the verse. Feel free to change up your voice and the speed of what you say. Practice quietly with your group for one minute so you are ready to share the verse with everyone. (Allow kids to practice. Offer suggestions such as babies pretend to crawl and say the verse in a baby voice, teenagers pretend to be talking on the phone or texting as they say the verse very fast, moms pretend to be cooking or working on the computer as they say the verse, and grandpas pretend to walk with a cane and say the verse with a warbly voice.) All right, group one. Please share the verse with the rest of us. Great! (Repeat for each group.) Now, let s say the verse all together. Great job, everyone. And through our Bible verse, we learned that we can show love to family members. Let s talk about specific ways we can show love. Raise your hand if you would like to answer this question aloud for the group. (Allow kids to speak responses in a microphone.) How can you show love to your mom? How can you show love to your dad?
