It s almost here... C hristians tell time differently. A believer s clock resets itself at Advent, for with Christ s arrival, time begins anew. Because Christians live in the unique time zone of faith, they sometimes find themselves out of sync with the cultural celebration of the holidays. As Christians, we are called to transform society not the other way about. In our society, the Christmas season ends on December 25th, but for people of Faith, it is just the beginning. Christians begin singing Carols in church just about the time they cease playing them on the radio. They also keep lights up longer than the shopping malls to reflect the only true gift of Christmas. The season of Christmas does not end on December 25th, but begins and ends only with the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. Today is Gaudete (joyful) Sunday. We are closer to Christmas celebrations. Are you ready for the celebrations yet? Are your minds and hearts ready to receive Christ, our Savior? The best way to get our minds and hearts ready is by making a good confession. We have Advent Confessions scheduled from 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19th. We will have seven priests available to hear Confessions. Please make use of this opportunity. Please take note of the changes in the Mass schedule for next weekend, due to the fact that the Christmas Vigil falls on Sunday this year. Also take note of the Christmas Masses. Remember to invite a friend, neighbor, or visiting family members to join you in going to church. * * * I know that some of you give your one-time donations to the church at this time of the year. If you are considering any type of year-end financial contributions to St. Francis Church, I humbly recommend that you assign those donations to Debt Retirement, clearly specifying it on the memo line of your check. May I suggest that you make your Christmas Mass tithing this year also to Debt Retirement Fulfilling the Past. One hundred percent of your donations to debt retirement goes directly toward it. I am blown away by what the Lord is doing in our church community! He is telling us that we do not have to wait five years to pay off the debt. I hope you can be part of this incredible success story. I know that there are some of you who are more capable than others who can make our debt a thing of the past. If the Lord is tugging your heart to do that, please say yes to Him. When you step up to share God s blessings, what He does for you and the church will blow you away. Thank you for your generosity during this season of giving! Father Jose Thomas

I will be leaving for India on Sunday, January 7th, to see my Mom, who is recovering from a fall and a broken hip as well as visiting the rest of my family. I will be away for three weekends. Fr. Victor will be in charge while I am away, and Bishop Cary has agreed to assist with the weekday and weekend Masses. Although I am looking forward to seeing my Mom after more than two years, I am not looking forward to sitting in a tight, economy coach seat for 14 hours from Seattle to Dubai 28 hours all together. Your prayers are appreciated for my safe trip. Volunteers Needed for New Ministry We will be starting our new Returning Catholics: The Door is Open Ministry classes on Thursday, February 15th. 6 ST. FRANCIS SCHOOL NEWS Despite the freezing temps, snow flurries, and a few big wind gusts that nearly blew off half the float decorations, the Christmas Parade was a big hit! Fifty St. Francis students participated this year! The little kids dressed as elf school students and rode in desks on the float, while the big boys dressed in elf hats and elf shirts. The big girls were dressed as giant walking presents! All went wonderfully with the exception of the preschoolers eating the float props. But, who could blame them when the props were chocolate-syrup-covered marshmallows and maplesyrup-covered Pop Tarts? Havana Nights St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School s 36th Annual School Auction!
