She was born in the city of Lubavitch. At age 15 she married her cousin, the Rebbe MaHarash. Known for her outstanding righteous character, she was constantly involved in assisting the poor and needy. She also voluntarily prepared and provided food for the students of Yeshivas "Tomchei T'mimim." In the winter of 5674 (1914), the Rebbetzin became ill. On Erev Shabbos, Yud Shevat, in the morning, after saying Shema and davening Shmoneh Esrei, she passed away. Her resting place is in Lubavitch next to her mother in law Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka opposite the gravesites of the Tzemach Tzedek and the Rebbe MaHarash. Years Later the Frierdiker Rebbe established the network of Lubavitch girls schools and named it in her memory "Bais Rivkah. Yud Shevat 5710 (1950) Each year the Frierdiker Rebbe would deliver or publish a Ma'amor in honor of Yud Shevat, his grandmother Rebbetzin Rivkah's Yahrtzeit. For Yud Shevat 5710 (1950), which occurred on Shabbos parshas Bo the Frierdiker Rebbe published the Ma'amor Basi LeGani, ("I came to my garden"). Some noticed that the letter "yud" of the word shlita by the Frierdiker Rebbe's name was missing from the title page of the Ma'amor. The next day this omission took on a whole new meaning: At 8:00 Shabbos morning the Frierdiker Rebbe passed away at the age of 69. His resting place is in New York. May his holy memory be a blessing for all of Klal Yisroel. The following year on this day, the Rebbe officially accepted the Nesius (leadership). Yud Shevat 5711 (1951) On Yud Shevat 5711 (1951), 770 was packed to capacity. Many people had come to farbreng with the Rebbe on the Frierdiker Rebbe's first Yahrtzeit, hoping the Rebbe would accept the Nesius (leadership). The Rebbe began the farbrengen by saying: "One must follow the custom of the place. The custom of America is to make a statement, therefore I will make a statement: The love of Hashem, the love of Torah, and the love of a Jew are truly one inseparable entity." Later in the farbrengen one of the elder Chassidim called out to the Rebbe, "The words are very good but Chassidim want to hear a Ma amor." Silence reined as all eyes turned to the Rebbe to see his reaction. At 10:40 pm the Rebbe began the Ma'amor Basi LeGani, publicly and formally assuming the Nesius of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. Total: Your name: Grade/Class: Chof Bais Shevat, 5748 (1988) Yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, daughter of the Frierdiker Rebbe, and wife of the Rebbe. The Rebbetzin had an exceptionally sharp mind and an astonishing breadth of Torah knowledge. In her royal manner, she gently offered her wise input on many matters, and was very respected by all. Though her husband, the Rebbe, was the leader of Klal Yisroel, she chose to lead her life away from the public eye, ignoring all her well-deserved honor, playing her important role in true humility. Once the Lubavitch Women's Organization sent her a basket of flowers for her birthday. A list of names of those who needed special blessings was affixed to the basket. The caretaker working in the house received the gift and gave it to the Rebbe. Upon noticing that it was addressed to the Rebbetzin, the Rebbe told the caretaker to give it to her. The caretaker then showed the Rebbe the list of names of those who needed blessings. The Rebbe replied, "Nu, she can also give blessings!" On Wednesday, Chof Bais Shevat, 5748 (1988) the Rebbetzin passed away - her Levayah was attended by thousands of people. Her resting place is right next to the Ohel. The Rebbe says in one of his sichos "The Frierdiker Rebbe passed away in the month of Shevat. Likewise his Grandmother Rebbetzin Rivkah, his mother Rebbetzin Shterna Sara and his daughter Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka also all passed away in Shevat." At another opportunity the Rebbe commented, "No one will ever know how great she [the Rebbetzin] really was." Friends or relatives named after the Rebbetzin: I Reviewd my missions with my mashpia
