St. Hilary of Poitiers Parish November 5, 2017 The 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Pastor s Corner Citizenship Our citizenship is in heaven The two great feasts of the Church All Saints and All Souls remind us what God has in store for all who believe in Him. The seasons of life are many, the springs of birth and childhood, the summers of adulthood and maturity, the autumns of growing old and diminishment, the winters of sickness and death. Now however, because of Christ we have every reason to hope for a season beyond death, the everlasting season of Resurrection. The Saints, those officially canonized by the Church, now experience that season in all its wonder. Their efforts to live the spirit of the Beatitudes to be poor in spirit, pure in heart, merciful and gentle is rewarded by their seeing God face to face. The eternal embrace of God s love is theirs forever. This is now our hope for All Souls. Those unofficial saints of the Church whom we know by personal experience strove to live good lives. They are canonized in our own minds and hearts. We know them and were blessed by their sacrifices and love. Though our grief and remorse is deep as we recall their memory today our hope is real. We can be at peace and be happy for them as their salvation is assured. They are on the threshold of Heaven and need our prayers to be released from their Purgatory state. This is what the Church calls the pain of a divided heart. Perhaps like all of us letting go is hard for them too, our attachments for people and things are strong. Our prayers are that they be released from clinging to the past and complete their journey home to God. We pray for all our friends, parishioners and family members this November who have died to this world and born to God s world. May the wonders and joys that await us sustain us in our seasons and our journeys home. Eternal rest grant unto them Oh Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon them forever. May all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace! God bless, Father Murray Sunday, November 5th, 2017, The 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time 5:00pm (Sat.) This instruction should help to maintain and recognize the human body as a living temple of Gods presence. Proper respect for the deceased and their remains must always be upheld. Copies on the guidelines are available at the rectory DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL? The Tribunal is available to help people who have experience and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One on the durable bond of marriage. This is God s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these circumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587.3750 Page 3/ November 5, 2017 Billy Brazukas Shirley Callahan Maureen Barrett Roy & Carol Stein The Ferry Family Mike Schell Mike Schell Memorial Bricks If you would like to remember a loved on in our St. Hilary s Garden of Remembrance, memorial bricks are available for a $100.00 donation. Community of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Secular Order Discalced Carmelites Philadelphia, PA Is Carmel calling you? The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites is a lay community which meets at Maternity BVM Parish in Northeast Philadelphia on the second Saturday of the month. We are faithful members of the Catholic Church who wish to seek the Face of Christ according to the teachings of our great Carmelite saints. If you are devoted to prayer, the Sacraments and Our Lady, and are interested in committing your life to a spiritual journey in the Carmelite tradition, please contact: Meg Manzo @ 215-901-9399 MARRIAGE CONVALIDATIONS For Catholics a valid sacramental marriage is before a Priest and two witnesses in what is called the Forms of Marriage. If you have been married by a Justice of the Peace or in a Civil Marriage and wish to have your marriage blessed by the Church and be able to return to the sacraments, most especially, the Sacrament of the Eucharist, please call the rectory at 215-884-3252 and ask to speak to Fr. Murray.

Little Sisters of the Poor Honorees This year three individual were honored for the work they do for Holy Family Home. Interestingly, their acceptance speeches had a common theme, gratitude for having the Little Sisters of the Poor in their lives. This year one of our long time parishioners was a recipient. Don Hopkins first connection with the Little Sisters of the Poor was when he delivered cookies baked by his mother to the Home. Later his mother Mary, was a resident at Holy Family Home. He was so grateful for the care given to her that he decided to be involved with the Pot of Gold fundraiser. He has been a seller for 17 years and this year sold a personal best of 117 tickets! Don ended his acceptance speech saying, Let us pray that our links for a chain of love and friendship that will entwine our hearts with the Little Sisters of the Poor. Page 4 November 5, 2017
