St. Rose of Lima Church 312 Ridgedale Avenue East Hanover, New Jersey 07936 www.saintroseoflimachurch.org Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 17, 2017 My dear parishioners how blessed am I? I m home from a most amazing time in Europe and back in a parish which I love. My pilgrimage to Fatima was incredible and over the coming weeks I ll write about the wonderful experiences we had, most especially Fatima. The visit to Santiago in northern Spain where St. James catechized was a very spiritual experience. It was good to have some time before the group arrived just relaxing in Aubufeira by the beach. At the end of the Portugal trip I visited one of my favorite countries, Italy. I met with our young diocesan seminarians and helped Alex to settle back into seminarian life. He has begun the most difficult year of his four year seminary process. He is going to be very busy and working to the max. I m pleased to tell you he is following my example and is involved in prison ministry in Rome. Let us keep him in our prayers during the months ahead. My heartfelt congratulations to Deacon Vin and Peggy on receiving the Vivere Christus Award last Sunday. Bishop Serratelli praised their years of dedicated service to our parish. May God continue to bless them with health and happiness. A big thank you to Fr. Matthew for taking charge of the parish during my absence. He worked hard and certainly got a good flavor of what being a pastor means. He was involved in organizing and running the Vivere Christus liturgy last Sunday. Under the assistance of Fr. Kevin, he worked hard to ensure a beautiful liturgy that ran smoothly. Good job Fr. Matthew!!! Welcome back to our Cycle 1 Religious Ed children who began the new year today. I look forward to visiting our catechists and young people. Cycle 2 will begin next Sunday. On behalf of Fr. Matthew we thank all of our catechists who give of their time with generosity and devotion. We wish them God s blessings on this catechetical Sunday. Yesterday (Saturday), with a great sense of love and dignity, Fr. Matthew and I concelebrated Mario Marrano s Memorial Mass. Mario was definitely a character. In many ways he was larger than life. He had a huge loving heart. He loved his faith, he loved his family, his parish family was also his family and he was always proud of his beloved St. Rose. Having visited Anna and Jeanne at his beautiful village of Picarelli, near Avellino, I felt the love that the local people had for him. Many of the villagers told me how proud he was of St. Rose and how he loved to brag about how involved he was in the parish. I know that God has lifted Mario into the Kingdom of Paradise. Mario will be forever linked with the car raffle and his need to guide and support our parish. Our prayers and love go out in a special way to Anna, to Jeanne and Gregg, to Annmarie and Giovanni and to Mario and Gerardina and the six grandchildren. Mario had great devotion to St. Pio and I know that St. Pio, with Mario at his side, will guide and support us on our journey through life and into eternal life. Father Owen

EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER WELCOME BACK STUDENTS! It was so exciting to see the bright smiles on the children s faces when they walked down the hallway with their backpacks on, ready for the school year to begin! We are off to a great start! Miss Donna s class was busy making new friends, playing outside and making apple pictures. Miss Casey s class was just as busy making new friends by creating a Friendship Tree for their class, reading stories and they also took advantage of the nice weather and went outside. Miss Lorie and Miss Evelyn s classes jumped right back into St. Rose and into their routines. We discussed school rules and learning to work together as a group of friends. The children created a name mosaic for our bulletin boards. We also discussed features of our families, how many people in our family, who is in our family, and we graphed the results. We can t wait to see what is in store for us in the next few weeks! Alexa W s first day of class! Miss Evelyn s class, Avhilinn & Guilianna Miss Donna s class first week! Miss Casey s first week of class!
