Terms and Conditions of Employment (Non-Teaching Staff) 1. Ministry The task of bringing children up into maturity is a responsibility that God has given to parents (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Ephesians 6:1-4). In our complex and specialised world, this is a very onerous task. God has given the church a gift of teaching and so it is entirely appropriate that the church assist parents by providing schooling (Ephesians 6:4) that will enable children to speak the truth in love and to grow up unto Him, who is the Head, that is Christ Ephesians 4:15 NIV). The College is a community of learning that has a threefold responsibility: Equipping, developing and training students. Assisting them to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ. Helping them to learn to work together in unity. Southern Vales Christian College is a ministry of Harvest Australia Church (formerly Morphett Vale Baptist Church), raised up by the Lord for these purposes. Staff presence in the College should be as a result of a call from the Lord to exercise their God-given gifts in the context of the ministry of the College. Viewing the College as a ministry, staff will have servant hearts. Anything less will reduce their presence to that of a hired labourer. All staff members shall be active members of a Christian church. Education is a demanding ministry involving commitment to classes, individuals and staff. To engage students in learning as well as loving is quite often not without personal cost to the educator. The only answer to such pressures is to be totally reliant upon God s strength. It is the responsibility of each member of staff to: Be fervent in prayer. Faith-filled. Ready for service. Exhibit character traits which honour the Lord. Use teaching methods that reflect God s ways. Relate to others in unity. 2. Ethos, Aims and Objectives The ethos, aims and objectives of the college are based on: Acceptance of the Lordship of Christ. Acceptance of the Bible as the written Word of God. The College aims to provide schooling of excellence that: Nurtures self-discipline in the student while teaching him or her to accept the discipline of the College, the church and to obey the laws of Government. Trains the student in the moral and ethical standards of the Bible. Develops the student s creative and critical abilities. Stresses cooperation rather than competition. Encourages the development of the students gifts, skills and abilities for the service of the Kingdom and the world. The College adheres to the Creationist model as the basis of its teaching programme. 7
Each member of staff shall be aware of and in agreement with: The College Mission Statement The College Distinctives The College Vision Statement The College Confession of Faith Each of the above is included later in this document, starting on the next page. All staff are required to teach in a way that is consistent with the policies of the College. 3. It is the body legally responsible for the College s activities. The Principal has been delegated the day-to-day responsibility of the College. This includes the responsibility of interpreting the aims and objectives consistent with the ethos of the College and the authority for the operation of the College. The Principal recommends to the Board the engagement and dismissal of staff. You will: Be supportive in respect of these matters. Set an example of personal conduct and attitude consistent with the ethos of the College. Carry out the implementation of the curriculum and College s programmes responsibly. 4. Professional Development All staff shall participate in the annual retreat, usually held in the last week of the summer holidays, and other conferences and workshops as deemed appropriate by the Principal and the Leadership Team. You will be encouraged to undertake other professional development opportunities as determined through the Performance Management and Development programme. 5. Confession of Faith We believe in the Divine inspiration, the infallibility and supreme authority of the Old and New Testaments in their entirety and that the Holy Spirit so moved the writers that what they wrote are authoritative statements of truth for all matters of faith and conduct. We believe there is one God in whom there are three equal Divine Persons, revealed as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and who, of His own sovereign will, created the heavens, the earth and all that is contained within the Universe. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternally existing, only begotten Son of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. As God he became flesh and dwelt among us; as man He was God. We believe all men are in a fallen, sinful and lost condition through the rebellion of Adam and Eve, who were created without sin and in this state of depravity are helpless to save themselves and are under the condemnation of God to eternal punishment in Hell. We believe that salvation from the penalty and consequences of sin is found only through the substitutionary, atoning death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe it is the Holy Spirit alone who convicts men of sin, leads them to repentance, creates faith within them and regenerates and fills those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord. It is the indwelling Spirit who bestows the Gifts of the Spirit and manifests the Fruit of the Spirit in the believer. We believe Christ died for our sins, was buried and on the third day rose from the dead; that He appeared to men who touched Him and knew His bodily presence and that He ascended to His Father. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ will return in person with His saints, that the full consummation of the Kingdom of God awaits His return. We believe those who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit will receive a resurrection body at the return of Jesus Christ and be forever with the Lord, while those who have not believed will be resurrected to stand at the Judgement Seat of God to receive His judgement and eternal condemnation to Hell. We believe in the actual existence of Satan who is the father of all evil and opposed to God although ultimately subject to the purposes of God and destined to be confined forever to Hell. We believe the church is the Body of Christ composed of all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, which finds its visible manifestation in the local community of believers and ministers through the cooperative of God-given gifts by the entire membership. Each local church is to order its life without interference from any authority whether civil or ecclesiastical. We believe there are two ordinances instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ Baptism by immersion of all believers as a prerequisite for church membership. The Lord's Supper which is a memorial and proclamation of the Lord's death until He returns. Variations to these clauses will be accepted to allow for different convictions about these two beliefs 10
