Surah Ash-Sharh Ayah 4-6 Wednesday, February 06 2013 5:00 AM In this Surah Allah SWT is reminding Prophet Muhammad SAW of all His favours upon him. These are great favours from Allah SWT on His slave. Prophet SAW were: The favours of Allah SWT on 1. Widened Prophet s chest and 2. Forgave his all sins Ayah 4 And raised high for you your reputee This ayah is another favour on Prophet Muhammad SAW where Allah SWT has elevated his ranks. and raised high elevated from and shows elevation of Prophet Muhammad SAW over all humanity ( ) for you addressing to Prophet Muhammad SAW that this favour has been done especially for you ( ) your remembrance Prophet Muhammad SAW has been favoured and honoured by Allah SWT in such a manner that till the day of judgment he will be remembered. Allah SWT is the only One who can exalt anyone and He has exalted the remembrance of Prophet Muhammad SAW and has made for him a very high praise in such a manner that no creation can reach his status everyone knows about him; his name being mentioned more than anyone else. Where Prophet Muhammad s SAW name being elevated by Allah SWT and his name being mentioned all the time? 1. Prophet Muhammad SAW name is remembered and mentioned in every call for salaat at the time of Adhan as well as aqamah, after the mention of Allah SWT Name. There are so many mosques in the world and in every mosque at every prayer time Prophet Muhammad SAW name is mentioned. 1 2. In every salaat it is obligatory to send salaam SAW 2 whether it is obligatory or voluntary prayer. to Prophet Muhammad 3. When a person enters Islam then he has to say Shahadatain and in it the mention of Prophet Muhammad SAW is there no one can be a Muslim without testifying that there is One God and Muhammad SAW is His messenger. This shows that when Allah SWT has elevated the ranks of Prophet Muhammad SAW then no matter how much the disbelievers try to harm him and do propaganda against Prophet SAW and his reputation nothing can harm his name and status. It was a great console for Prophet Muhammad SAW and it is still a great favour on all the believers that our Prophet s name and rank has been elevated and preserved by Allah SWT. If Allah SWT is with you then no matter if the whole world is against you, they cannot harm you. 1 Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah - I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God. 2 At-Tahiyatu lil-lahi wassalawatu wat-taiyibatu. As Salamu 'alalika aiyuha-n-nabiyu wa rahmatu- l-lahi wa barakatuhu. As-Salam alaina wa ala ibadil-lah is-salihin. Ash-hadu an la-ilaha illa-l-lahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluhu Page 2
4. His name is elevated and remembered in every act of worship the condition of the acceptance of the good deeds is to fulfill two conditions ( ): (1) sincerity i.e. for the sake of Allah SWT; and (2) following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW whether we pray, fast, do umrah or hajj in every act of worship we have to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW the way he performed these ibadah. So it is because Allah SWT has elevated Prophet Muhammad SAW ranks. Whenever a believer performs an act of worship in his heart he always has these two conditions and then he knows the meaning of this verse thatt how Allah SWT has given honour to Prophet Muhammad SAW and how his name will be remembered tilll the last day. This Ayah was revealed in Mecca where all the people around Prophet Muhammad SAW had become his enemy and they were insulting and mocking him, and calling him magician and majnoon and in this background Allah SWT consoled Prophet Muhammad SAW that no matter what they do or say to you, your ranks and name has been elevated by Allah SWT and He has favoured you by opening your heart and forgiving all your sins. 5. Allah SWT has elevated Prophet Muhammad SAW name and rank by putting his love and respect in the heart of his Ummah. From the time of Sahabah till now and forever, the believers, even if they have not seen him with their eyes, love him and respect him and follow his Sunnah for all their worship. Remembrance ( ) can be on tongue ( ), in actions ( ) and in the heart ( ) this is Page 3
Ayah 5 & 6 For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease Allah Swt is addressing Prophet Muhammad SAW when he was still in Mecca; these two ayahs are a glad tiding from Allah SWT especially for Prophet Muhammad SAW and generally for all the believers. When Prophet Muhammad SAW was in Mecca he faced lot of difficulties and hardships from his own people and even when he visited Taif there also he encountered severe conditions. Not only before migration, even after that in Medina he had to deal with the hypocrites who were creating different type of difficulties for Prophet Muhammad SAW and his followers. Prophet Muhammad SAW was a messenger of Allah SWT but still he was facing difficulties from the people and how Allah SWT is giving glad tidings that if you keep on facing these hardships with perseverance and patience then these hardships will be removed. Look at the mercy of Allah SWT and His way of nurturing His slaves and His divine message in which He is giving glad tidings that these hardships will elevate you in ranks look at the Divine message from Allah SWT He is not removing the hardships immediately but giving the console and glad tidings that with every hardship there is ease and emphasizing by repeating the message in the next Ayah as well. If you believe in Allah SWT then have the relief; who is more truthful in His words than Allah SWT, it depends how much you have faith in Allah SWT. So the message says that don t despair, don t lose hope in Allah s mercy action of the heart is important how the heart is at peace and have hope that if Allah SWT has given the assurance then there is ease with hardship. - tawkeed For indeed it is used for affirmation and confirmation Hardship ( ) if theree is any difficulty in your life then there is ease ( ). They are opposite of each other so Allah SWT did not negate the fact that Prophet Muhammad SAW faced the hardship but informing that with every hardship there is ease ( ). is when matters are very complicated that have really given you tough times. Hardships can be in the (a) Decree ( ) and includes everything that befalls you, example hardship from people or sickness or some accidents or can be in the (b) legislation ( standing, or going to hajj which can give difficulties. ) for example somebody cannot pray while After Allah SWT prepared Prophet Muhammad SAW specifically by reminding him of His different favours and blessings and then informing that there will be different types of hardships but at the same time giving a relaxation also that the difficulties will be accompanied by ease, ways to come out of difficulties. It is not like after the hardship the ease will come look at the in the Ayah which means with. With every hardship there will be some ease and comfort. It is as if two friends together - and - as if they are holding each other together SubhanAllah - so don t feel sad and have firm belief in Allah SWT and the news He is giving us. We need to discover the ease and seek Allah s help in finding the comfort. Allah SWT always fulfills His promises whenever He promises something. There is more explanation for the ayah and why is it repeated in Ayah 6 but it will be discussed next week Insha Allah. To be continued next week Insha Allah We ask Allah for His forgiveness and Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah for His acceptance of all our good deeds and forgiveness on our sins Ameen. Page 5
