ST. TERESA of AVILA STUDENT CENTER PAGE 2 VALPARAISO, INDIANA Fr. Chris Corner Dear friends in the Lord, Two weeks ago we started a preaching series entitled Teach us to pray. We looked at the question: What is Prayer? and we defined prayer as responding to the God who is already there and receiving what He wants to bestow upon us. Last week, we looked at prayer as a covenant relationship and we went over the five forms of prayer (Adoration, Petition, Intercession, Thanksgiving, and Praise) as well as the three expressions of prayer (vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation). This week we are taking a look at the prayer process as described by Matthew Kelly. He lays out the process in seven steps: Gratitude, Awareness, Significant moments, Peace, Freedom, Others, and an Our Father. This is just one more way to pray, so try experimenting with this style throughout the week. In order to guide you throughout this week, below is a list of Scripture passages to pray with each day. There are some reflection questions to help you discover what the Lord is saying to you and then you can write it down in your journal. Read the passage once to become familiar with the text. Slowly read the passage a second time. Very, very slowly read the passage a third time and pay attention to which word, words, or phrases captures your attention or tugs at your heart. Talk to God about what is on your heart and listen with the ear of your heart. Day 1: Luke 12:22-32 Day 2: Psalm 27 Day 3: Psalm 23 Day 4: John 4:7-19 Day 5: Wisdom 11:21-26 Day 6: Deuteronomy 7:6-8 Day 7: Return to one of the above passages that spoke to you the most this week Worship Schedule Monday, March 20 5:15pm Tuesday, March 21 Wednesday, March 22 5:15pm Thursday, March 23 Friday, March 24 12:30pm Saturday, March 25 4:00pm Sunday, March 26 11:00am 9:00pm Wednesday Saturday Emily Karczewski By: Christine, Katie & Megan O Connell/Marshall Families By: Sue O Connell Joseph Olack By: Friends Ralph Mata By: Friends Lucy Waters By: Bruce, Carol & Joe Niepokoj Nicholas Arreguin By: Dolores Arreguin Emily Budnyk By: Ann & Jerry Vail St. Teresa of Avila By: Community Priest Intention Reconciliation Schedule 6:00-6:30pm 2:30-3:30pm Fr. Chris Corner Continued After your prayer, write down in your journal the strongest thought or feeling that occurred in your prayer. Then, write down the one thing that you sensed the Lord was trying to tell you. Finally, write down what you ended your prayer wanting. Continued to the right. Faithfully Yours in the Lord, Fr. Chris

It is a religious service celebrated on Good Friday. Tenebrae is distinctive for its gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are chanted or recited. The Tenebrae Service commemorates the sufferings and death of Christ. It is a moving way to experience the events of Good Friday. Good Friday Services, April 14 7:00pm Easter Vigil, April 15 7:30pm Easter Sunday, April 16 & 11:00am Drive for Sojourner Truth House: Personal Products and Easter Basket Items Social Justice Sojourner Truth House, is a not for profit organization located in Gary, Indiana, and sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ (PHJC), that serves homeless and at-risk women and their children. The Social Justice Commission is conducting a drive for personal care products and the makings for Easter baskets for Sojourner Truth House on the weekend of April 1-2. On the weekend of March 25-26 members of the Commission will be passing out lists of items requested by the STH staff for their clients. (This is a change from past drives in that the Commission is not passing out lists attached to grocery bags, but just passing out the lists themselves). Empty Easter baskets and candy are already being provided. The lists you will receive will contain personal products and a request for an item such as a book, small toy, small stuffed animal or other article that a child would like to receive in an Easter basket. We provide the makings for the Easter baskets to the clients of STH who use them to create Easter baskets for their children. Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping the women and children (and the few male clients) of Sojourner Truth House. Last week, we celebrated the Penitential Rite for our candidates, this week we move on to the first of three Scrutinies for our elect at the 4pm Saturday Mass. As we pray over Andrea during this time of her final preparation, may God purify her and prepare her for the life he has called her to live. Matt Hensley will be with us this Tuesday evening to lead the discussion on the topic of The Second Coming, Heaven, and Hell. May God bless us all! Behold, I make all things new! Revelation 21:5 ENCOUNTER OPPORTUNITY We encounter Fernando in El Salvador where, despite a lack of economic opportunity, youth are pursuing their dreams of building businesses to better the lives of their families. How have you worked to better the lives of others this Lent? Visit crsricebowl.org for more. Rice Bowls will be collected on Divine Mercy Sunday, the Sunday after Easter.
