Amen Pastor of Wayman Chapel AME Church Gerald A. Cooper has served as the pastor of Wayman Chapel AME Church in Dayton, Ohio, since December 2013. His prior pastoral assignments include St. James AME Church in Cleveland, Ohio; St. James AME Church in Erie, Pennsylvania; St. Paul AME Church in Zanesville, Ohio; and Mt. Pisgah AME Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Pastor Cooper is a na ve of Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his B.A. degree from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where he majored in Economics. He earned the Juris Doctor degree, from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio, where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Order of the Curia. Pastor Cooper earned the Master of Divinity degree from Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio, where he received, among other honors, the Senior Award for Academic Achievement. Pastor Cooper is dedicated to a ministry of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through sound biblical teaching and Holy Spirit inspired, exege cal preaching. While he is commi ed to tending to the spiritual needs of the congrega on for which he is blessed to serve as pastor, he has also had the opportunity to preach and teach in various regions of the country. In addi on to preaching, teaching and evangelizing, Pastor Cooper conducts workshops and seminars on various topics rela ng to pastoral conduct and legal issues that impact churches and ministries. Pastor Cooper has taken an ac ve role in the improvement of the communi es in which he has pastored through his service in various civic and community organiza ons. He is also an Associate Faculty member of
Payne Theological Seminary, a Board member of the Richard Allen Schools, an Advisory Board member of the Center for Urban Development of the United Theological Seminary, and a Trustee of the Ohio-South Ohio Conference of the AME Church. Pastor Cooper previously served as the Dean of the North Ohio Conference Board of Examiners, an Execu ve Board Member of Greater Cleveland Congrega ons, a member of the Ci zens Advisory Council of the Cleveland Empowerment Zone, a board member of Urban Erie Community Development Corpora on, and as a member the Regional Government Opportuni es Task Force in Erie, PA. As an a orney, Pastor Cooper is a solo prac oner focusing primarily in the areas of nonprofit corpora on law and contract nego a on. He previously prac ced with the law firm of Thompson Hine in Columbus, Ohio, in the areas of telecommunica ons regulatory law and commercial law. Pastor Cooper is married to the Rev. Mila P.
