A WORD FROM FR. IVAN Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Labor Day is usually associated with the end of relaxed summer time and starting a new scholastic year. Also, in the parish, I consider it as a starting period after the summer. Work is an obligation or a duty on the part of man. Man must work not only because God commanded it but because it is advantageous for all humanity, in the sense of maintaining and developing our world. This is a means of fulfillment as human beings. Also, work is not something which only an individual gains from but to be fulfilled by it, one must use work for the needs of others, especially starting with our family, our company or whomever one works for, our city and country of which we are members. We work because others have worked before and laid a future for us so that we might offer the same or better opportunity for the next generation. On the other hand we have to be careful that work would not become an escape or used selfishly. One can easily immerse oneself into work completely and take time away from family, God and friends. Also when we use it just for ourselves to become more wealthy or use it for our own capricious needs, it can become detrimental to ourselves because we are never satisfied with what we have. We always want more. This week and last week as school starts I find parents with mixed feelings. They are happy to see their children return to school but maybe saddened to see how hard is to spend time with their children during the school year since they are involved with many activities. I encourage and beg all parents to try to have one meal each day together with their children considering how very important this time is for their human formation and for their faith growth. As we gather together this Sunday in front of the Lord, let us ask him to give us a grateful heart for all of our activities of our lives during this scholastic year and asking him to give fruit to our work. I hope you have a blessed Sunday. Fr. Ivan Sant frivansant@churhcofstbernard-stp.org Page 2 St. Bernard
