Grounded in the grace of God, we are a vibrant Christian community, disciples of all ages, gathered for worship and nurture, scattered to serve and to love. -MPC Mission Statement adopted by the Session March 31, 2008 THEREFORE GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you would like more information about how we can serve you, please speak to a pastor. FRIENDSHIP PAD: During the Words of Welcome, please pass the Friendship Pad to the outside aisle and back again to the center. This allows worshipers to recognize people in their pew, and helps staff members identify those who may need attention. THE CHANCEL FLOWERS are offered to the glory of God and are given by the Beidler family in memory of Juanita Kay Beidler, gentle and beloved mother and grandmother. We miss you greatly. The flowers are also given in loving memory of Richard H. Evans by his wife, Carol; their son, Jeffrey; daughter, Nancy Stoner; and grandchildren, Maddy, Jordan and Lizzie. USHERING AT TODAY S SERVICE: Head Usher Tom Evans, Denise Alexander, Karen Cooley, Jack Fancher, Kathryn Gilbride and Doris James. Though Jesus prayed that we would be one, we confess that we fail to live in unity with each other and with you. We break our communion through hostile words and unkind actions. We long for your Spirit to heal us and to correct us. We long for you to help us experience communion with you and with each other as we gather around your Word. Even now, dependent on your grace, we commit ourselves to live more fully in the unity you desire. Through Christ our Lord, Amen. *SILENT PRAYERS of CONFESSION *RESPONSE 601 Amen (DANISH) Here each worshiper may offer silent prayers of confession. Congregation 3

*PROMISE of FORGIVENESS One: The Holy One of Israel, the Redeemer of the world, and the Holy Spirit who comes as the breath of new life forgets the sins of all who repent. I declare to you, therefore, that you are forgiven in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All: In Christ, by the power of the Spirit, we are forgiven. Thanks be to the triune God! *RESPONSE to GOD S PARDON (back cover of hymnal) Glory to the Father GLORIA PATRI *THE PEACE One: The Peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. One: Let us greet one another with the Peace of Christ. As a sign of their reconciliation in Christ, the people share the peace of Christ, greeting one another with these or similar words: The peace of Christ be with you, Peace be with you, or simply, Peace. PRAYER for ILLUMINATION L I T U R G Y o f t h e W O R D PSALTER READING Psalm 8 (Old Testament, page 466) One: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. ANTHEM Now Glad of Heart - K. Lee Scott Chancel Choir Now glad of heart be everyone! The fight is fought, the day is won, the Christ is set upon his throne. Who on the rood was crucified, Who rose again, as at this tide, in glory to His Father's side. Who baffled death and harrowed hell and lead the souls that loved Him well in the light of lights to dwell, To him we lift our heart and voice in paradise rejoice with harp and pipe and happy noise. Then rise all Christian folk, with me, and carol forth the One in Three that was, and is and is to be. 4

PRAYER for NEW OFFICERS All: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon your servants whom you called through baptism as your own. Grant them the same mind that was in Christ Jesus. Give them the gifts of your Holy Spirit to build up the church, to strengthen the common life of your people, and to lead with compassion and vision. In the walk of faith and for the work of ministry, give to your servants gladness and strength, discipline and hope, humility, humor, and courage, and an abiding sense of your presence. And give us courage and discipline to follow where your servants lead us, that together we may declare your wonderful deeds and share your love with the world through Jesus Christ, the Lord of all.
