Is it a priority? Why not??

http://www.mhli.org.uk/manningham.htm

Why is it important to be healthy?

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allaah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive to do that which will benefit you and seek the help of Allaah, and do not feel helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say If only I had done (such and such), then such and such would have happened, rather say: Allaah has decreed and what He wills He does, for if only opens the door to the work of the shaytaan.

Why Sunnah Sports?

Why Revive the Sunnah? The Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whoever revives a Sunnah from my Sunnah and the people practice it, s/he will have the same reward of those who practice it without their reward diminishing " [Sunan Ibn Maajah (209)]

Who is Muhammad? Muhammad is the last Messenger of Allaah sent to all of humankind and jinn. He was the last of the Prophets in a line which included such Prophets as Ibraaheem (Abraham), Nooh (Noah), Moosaa (Moses), 'Eesaa (Jesus) ('alayhim as-salaam). No new Prophets or Messengers will ever be sent after him. Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) was a direct descendant of Ibraaheem through Ismaa'eel (Ishmael) ('alayhim as-salaam). What is the Sunnah? The Sunnah is the way, mode, manner; correctly referred to as the words, actions and tacit approvals of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) which serve as an explanation of the meaning of the Noble Qur aan.

What are the Sunnah Sports?

Archery

It has been reported by 'Abd al-rahman ibn Shamasah that Fuqaim al- Lakhmi said to Uqbah ibn Amir: You frequent between these two targets and you are an old man, so you will be finding it very hard. 'Uqbah said: But for a thing I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), I would not strain myself. Haarith (one of the narrators in the chain of transmitters) said: I asked Ibn Shamasah: What was that? He said that he (the Prophet) said: Who learnt archery and then gave it up is not from us or he has been guilty of disobedience (to Allaah's Messenger). [Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith Number 4714]

Archery has a number of physical, social and mental wellbeing aspects to it: Physical Benefits: Upper Body Strength: Drawing a bow string places stress on the muscles of both arms as well as the chest, shoulders and back. With repetition, the stress of drawing and firing a bow leads to muscle development in most of the major muscle groups of the upper body. Balance: Balance is vital to success in archery as you have to be able to hold your body still while aiming and making a shot. Practicing archery helps you to gain control over your balance as you focus on trying to hit the centre of the targets you shoot at. Co-ordination: Hand-eye coordination is an essential skill for archery. Archery trains your hands to work together while performing different tasks, aiming and firing your arrow based on input from your eyes. Social and Mental Wellbeing Benefits: Mental Focus: Focus is important to success as an archer, and developing focus can have a positive impact on your mental health and wellbeing. The more focused you are on your target the easier it will be for you to clear your mind. These same skills will help you to deal with stress and clear your mind of worry when you're away from the archery range and will help you to remain more focused on tasks as well. The focus you learn from archery may even help you to overcome procrastination and distraction. Teaches importance of safety Improves one s self-confidence Improves patience Provides enjoyment Improves focus http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/olympics/pages/archery.aspx

Horse/Camel Riding

Narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir: I heard the Apostle of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: Allaah, Most High, will cause three persons to enter Paradise for one arrow: the maker when he has a good motive in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it; so shoot and ride, but your shooting is dearer to me than your riding. Everything with which a man amuses himself is vain except three (things): a man's training of his horse, his playing with his wife, and his shooting with his bow and arrow. If anyone abandons archery after becoming an adept through distaste for it, it is a blessing he has abandoned; or he said: for which he has been ungrateful. [Abu Daawood, Book 8, Hadith Number 2507] Anas narrated, the Prophet (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) has a camel called Adbā which was unbeaten. A Bedouin Arab came with some of his racing camels and beat Adbā. The Muslims became upset at that, so the Prophet (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: Indeed, it is the right of Allāh that nothing in this world should be raised except that it falls. [Sahih Bukhari]

The physical health benefits of horse riding and associated activities: Horse riding and activities associated with horse riding, such as mucking out; expend sufficient energy to be classed as moderate intensity exercise. Regular periods of trotting in a riding session may enhance the energy expended and associated health benefits. More than two thirds (68 percent) of questionnaire respondents participate in horse riding and associated activities for 30 minutes or more at least three times a week. Sport England estimate that such a level of sporting activity will help an individual achieve or exceed the government s recommended minimum level of physical activity. A range of evidence indicates the vast majority (90 percent plus) of horse riders are female and more than a third (37 percent) of the female riders who took part in the survey were above 45 years of age. Amongst the horse riders who took part in the survey, 39 percent had taken no other form of physical activity in the last four weeks. This highlights the importance of riding to these people, who might otherwise be sedentary. Horse riders with a long-standing illness or disability who took part in the survey are able to undertake horse riding and associated activities at the same self-reported level of frequency and physical intensity as those without such an illness or disability. The psychological and social benefits of horse riding: Horse riding stimulates mainly positive psychological feelings. Horse riders are strongly motivated to take part in riding by the sense of well-being they gain from interacting with horses. This important positive psychological interaction with an animal occurs in a very few sports. Being outdoors and in contact with nature is an important motivation for the vast majority of horse riders. (Research undertaken by the University of Brighton and Plumpton College on behalf of The British Horse Society)

Running

Ai shah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: I competed with the Messenger of Allaah (in running) and overtook him. Later, when I had put on some weight, I once again competed with him, but this time he overtook me and said: We re even now. (Sunan Abi Daawood)

Swimming

Everything which isn t the remembrance of Allāh is play and jest except for four: a person walking between the archer and the target, horse riding, playing with one s family, and learning to swim. [Tabarāni]

http://islamqa.info/en/159926 Muslim women going out to public centres and swimming pools is something that is emphatically forbidden, because it involves a number of evils and negative consequences. If these swimming pools are in public centres that are frequented by men and women, this is a great evil. Abu Daawood (4010) and at-tirmidhi (2803), who classed the report as hasan, narrated from Abu Maleeh al-hudhali that some women from Syria entered upon Aa ishah and she said: Perhaps you are the people whose women enter bathhouses? They said: Yes. She said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: There is no woman who removes her clothes anywhere other than her house, but she has torn (the screen) that is between her and Allaah. Classed as saheeh by al-albaani in Saheeh at-tirmidhi.

http://islamqa.info/en/159926 At-Tirmidhi (2801) also narrated from Jaabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not let his wife enter bathhouses. Classed as hasan by al-albaani in Saheeh at-tirmidhi. What is meant by bathhouses here is the kind of bathhouses that existed in the past (hamaam or Turkish bath ), because houses did not have bathrooms at that time. The reason why women were forbidden to enter them is because of what happens in them of uncovering the awrah, looking at that which is haraam and exposure to fitnah (temptation), although bathhouses at that time were not mixed.

http://islamqa.info/en/159926 So what about bathhouses that are mixed and public swimming pools in which awrahs are uncovered and exposed? The scholars of the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas said: For men and women to swim together and then shake hands with one another after swimming is a great evil and it is not permissible to do it. The one who does that should be denounced and the ruler should prevent them from doing it. End quote from Fataawa al-lajnah ad-daa imah, 17/49

I have put the reference up and you can read more if you wish in shaa Allaah http://islamqa.info/en/159926

Wrestling

Shaykh Abd-Allaah al-jibreen (may Allaah preserve him) was asked: What is the ruling on games and recreational facilities that young people go to? He replied: These games are regarded as idleness and falsehood in which there is no benefit, rather they are a waste of time with no benefit. That includes playing card games. It is idle leisure and a great loss. But if the games involve training, competing and wrestling which give the youth more energy and strength, and trains them in combat skills, and increases their physical strength, then that is permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) approved of the Abyssinians playing with their spears in the mosque, because that was training for them in carrying weapons and the like. He also permitted races with horses and camels, and learning archery and swimming, and he wrestled with some of his companions, and permitted wrestling, because it is training that gives energy and physical strength. End quote. http://islamqa.info/en/111691
