Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council No. 4483 15 North Hickory Avenue Arlington Heights, IL 60004 (847) 255-4483 www.kofc4483.org April 2017 Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Dear Brother Knights and Friends, Happy Easter to you and your family s from all the officers of Holy Rosary Council. Fish Fry season is coming to an end with only one event remaining. It is definitely like running a marathon to work through the 6 weeks of Lent. If anything I hope it helped us all grow closer in the spirt of brotherhood as we work to raise fund for our parish youth groups and Special Olympians. I would like to thank our guys that were out there braving the wind, cold and sometimes rain to bring us a hot fish and tater tots. I would also like to thank our kitchen crew, servers, bartenders and door workers. None of it could happen without all the great volunteers. A special thank you to Sam Marsillo for the fantastic job he did recruiting those volunteers. Lastly a thank you to our Ladies Auxiliary for those delicious treats for dessert. Gentlemen as most of you know over the last couple years we have lost several very active members in our Council. These gentlemen were also active in our Assembly. The Assembly is really in need of some our younger members who are third degree to take the next step and take the 4 th degree. The 4 th degree is the very visible arm of the Knights of Columbus taking part in parades, confirmation ceremonies, installing new pastors at our parishes and performing honor guard at Sir Brother Knight s wakes and funerals. We also participate in ceremonies for Special Olympics and raise funds for Veterans groups. If not you? Then who will perform this great service of the Knights? If interested in joining the 4 th degree and becoming a member of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Assembly #2410, please contact Dean Sordyl at ssrvs@aol.com or call at 847-394-3307. Vivat Jesus Brian Marier Grand Knight

Chancellor s Report Enjoy seeing the NCAA championship Basketball game at the hall with your brother Knights. Cost $10.00 includes snacks drinks and food on April 3rd. At our April 20th Social meeting hear Ms Candis Hall-Merritt from Perseverance Ministries discussing a program dealing with teen problems including bullying sexual Concerns and other problems. Thank you, Henry Chaplain s Report By the time this goes to press we can very well be into the Octave of Easter. The term Octave of Easter refers either to the eight-day period (Octave) in Eastertide that starts on Easter Sunday and runs until the Sunday following Easter, inclusive; or it may refer only to that Sunday after Easter, the Octave Day of Easter (often known as Low Sunday, particularly in the Anglican Communion). That Sunday is also known historically as St. Thomas Sunday (especially among Eastern Christians), Quasimodo Sunday and Quasimodogeniti. Since 1970 Low Sunday has been officially known as the Second Sunday of Easter (referring to the Easter season) in the Roman Catholic Church and on 30 April 2000, it was also designated as Divine Mercy Sunday by Pope John Paul With Easter now passed we embark on the season of Ordinary Time. And While Ordinary can mean plain or mundane, for the Catholic Church, Ordinary time is the time on the church s (liturgical) calendar that does not encompass the other seasons of the church year such as Advent and Lent. It is however, a time for us to focus on God's movement, rhythms and presence in the ordinary seasons of our individual lives. Throughout Lent we observed the practices of Prayer, Fasting and Alms Giving and, as we have learned, all three are important for both our spiritual growth and well-being as well as for the well-being of our brothers and sisters. Let us continue, in this season of Ordinary time, to exercise our spiritual lives by continuing to grow stronger in our prayer life, healthier in our fasting and more generous and compassionate in our alms giving. Peace and Blessings to All Deacon Joseph Yannotta

Building Corporation Gentlemen: We are at a critical time for the life and future of the Hall. As the Director of Marketing for the Building Corp, I am asking each and everyone of us to take an active role to insure the future of the Hall. Most of our renters are Social Media savvy. They do research before booking a hall for their event. What is critical is that we, as members all of the Building Corp, help our ongoing efforts to "spread the word" of the renovation and our great facility. The easiest and best way to do this is via Facebook. If you are not familiar with Facebook or seem challenged as to how to use it to our benefit, we will be conducting an upcoming seminar to walk through the steps and get you on board. It is easy and it's help is quite necessary for the sustainability of the Hall. Stay tuned for more and thanks. Mark Stastny and the BC Officers... Field Agent Report What season are we in? Poker Night Poker Fund Raiser April 15 th Supporting our Charities No Experience Required Brothers, We have our first poker event of the year on Saturday, April 15th, and we're looking to fill the cashier spots. No poker experience is necessary. You only need to be able to count chips and count cash. There is an afternoon shift from 2:00-6:30 and an evening shift from 6:30-11:00, but start and end times are flexible, and we're happy to have people sign up for partial shifts if they can only put in a couple of hours. We like to have 4-5 cashiers for during the shifts so we have enough help during the busy times, and can take turns working during the slow periods. Please consider whether you can help out for all or part of a shift. This is the perfect opportunity if you ve been saying to yourself, Gee. I ought to get more involved with the council. Put in a few hours and you ll probably meet at chat with some Brother Knights that you didn t know. You can contact Scott Baxendale (baxendale99@yahoo.com) for the afternoon shift and Jeff Williams (jeff@bizstarters.com) for the evening shift to lets us know that you can help out. Clearbrook Dinner Dance The Spring Clearbrook Dinner Dance will be held on May 5th. As usual, we will need the help of many Knights, Ladies Auxiliary members and students to serve our guests, help cleanup, socialize and dance, with our guests, to the after -dinner music. Chuck is preparing his menu, Ralph has his Accordion tuned up, and all we need are 20 to 25 Knights and Ladies Auxiliary volunteers to give our friends from Clearbrook another memorable evening. Our guests will begin arriving at 5:45 PM. Any volunteers, who would like to greet and serve, should be at the hall by 5:15. We'll need a few volunteers to arrive at 4:45 to put the table clothes on. We will also need a few Knights to set up the tables and chairs after the business meeting on Thursday, May 4th. Your help, in this regard, will be greatly appreciated. Remember, the Spring Dinner Dance will be on Friday, May 5th. Volunteering makes us all feel good!...when we show our guests a good time, they feel good Isn't that what it's all about? Plan to be there, you won't regret it!
