We would like to take a few moments to honor her at our October birthday social on October 2nd. Please think about bringing a card with a special message in it that she can take with her as a special remembrance. The Conductor s Call: With Jesus, it s a love/hate relationship. Today, being a hater is one of the worst names you can be called by someone. And the most common reason for being labeled a hater, if you are the Pastor of Dinuba Christian Church, is if you call out false/unbiblical teachings as false and unbiblical. Well, I am in good company. Jesus loved everyone, and I m not perfect in that, but I love you! SO, there s that. Anyway, Jesus loves you more, of course, but did you know that there are some things that Jesus hates? The bible plainly states the word hate. Not dislike, or annoyed, or unenthusiastic, but hate. So, I believe He wants us to hate those things as well. For example, in Revelation 2, Jesus mentions practices and teachings that He hates. First, in verse 6, He praises the Church in Ephesus regarding one of the things they were doing right. Then He mentions these teachings again as a chastisement of the church in Pergamum. Does anyone know what the practices and the teachings were? Well, if you find out, I m pretty sure you are supposed to hate them. Not the people, but the practices and the teachings. Revelation 2:6 and 15 6But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. (good) Our annual Kids Carnnival is coming up on Sunday, October 30th. We are gearing up for a funfilled day and are hoping to entice kids from our Vacation Bible School and our community to come join in the fun. Our goal is to make the event free and to accept donations for food only. We want anyone that comes in to be able to participate without having to come up with funds for this event. We need lots of volunteers to make this event happen. Please talk to Virginia about how you can be involved in this event to reach the children in our community. We will need LOTS of candy! If you can, please bring a bag of wrapped candies to the church office before the 30th. 15Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. (bad) The point isn t necessarily that we find out these secret practices and teachings that Jesus hated. It is just another way of saying, Love the sinner, hate the sin. It is okay, and even obedient, to hate what Jesus hates. Of course we need to love who Jesus loves, everyone. But if someone we love is practicing a teaching that Jesus hates, it is our obligation to lovingly let it be known that the teaching is false. If you fail to illuminate false teachings you are willingly enabling people Jesus loves to continue partaking in something Jesus hates. You condone their sinful state by your passivity. That is not godly love. That is not the kind of love Jesus had for His people. He praised when their lives were praise worthy, and chastised when lives needed discipline. Continued...

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD O C T O B E R 2 0 1 6 We have a new and exciting opportunity coming up to work with Operation Christmas Child to help in the effort to send gift boxes to children in need around the world. On Thursday, October 20th, Samaritan s Purse will be partnering with Spirit 88.9 (local Christian radio station) and Walmart. Spirit 88.9 will be there broadcasting and we will be there to share with people our love of Operation Christmas Child and how they can get involved. We will have tables set up to help them actually pack a box. Spirit 88.9 will have a photo booth set up so they can take their picture and add it to the box. This is such an exciting opportunity to share Operation Christmas Child and Christ with our community. Who knows what the effects might be?! We will need people to help set up tables and materials. People to help pack boxes and share information with shoppers, and people with trucks to help haul the filled boxes back to the church for collection afterward. We would also like to have lots of people praying for this ministry opportunity and the people we might reach. Be thinking about how you are going to be involved. Fall October 6th What does real faith look like in the everyday moments of life? Everyday Faith, a quick and easy-to-use fourweek study, will help you discover how to draw near to God s presence. As you explore Hebrews 11, you will discover that as you draw near to Him, His presence will give your faith new life and meaning. Designed for those who are pressed for time but crave more from their devotional and study time, Everyday Faith offers a unique format that takes as little as 15 minutes a day. While the time may be short, the structure of this study provides a relevant and lasting approach to study Scripture as you work through the FOCUS process each week: F Foundation: Enjoy Every Word O Observation: Look at the Details C Clarification: Uncover the Original Meaning U Utilization: Discover the Connections in Scripture S Summation: Respond to God's Word Focus on quality, not quantity no fear or intimidation. Make each minute of your valuable time count, and find a renewed enjoyment and connection with God s Word. On Track We do not know specifically what the practices and teachings of the Nicolaitans were. We don t know if it was identifying a cult, followers of a corrupt person, Nicolas, or metaphorical, a word symbolizing corruptors of people. Nico in Greek means victory and laos means people or the laity, so it could mean, those who are conquered spiritually by ungodly behavior and human doctrine. But in reality, we do not know, specifically. But we DO know what God hates and what Jesus condemned. So, we would be wise to take heed: Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. So it stands to reason that we should not do these things. It brings many current issues to the forefront. Selfishness, self-righteousness, arrogance, supporting abortion, private meetings behind people s backs, gossip, human trafficking, justifying sinful behavior, calling people racists/bigots who are not, and stirring the pot towards accepting sin rather than encouraging repentance. God loves all people, but not everything they do. Jesus was pretty clear about behavior that was unacceptable as well. No one loves more than Jesus, but Jesus basically stresses again what His Father hates when rebuking the Pharisees. There are of course are other instances when Jesus rebukes behavior, such as outwardly visible sins. But in Matthew 23, these sins are inward, heart sins. Sins rarely seen by men, but always seen by God. YIKES! A list of ways some religious people do not practice what they preach: Matthew 23:4 Verse 5 Verse 6-10 Verse 11-12 Verse 13-15 Verse 16-22 Verse 23-24 Verse 25-28 Verse 29-30 Verse 30-36 Verse 37-39 Telling other people to / making other people do what you are unwilling to do. Being more concerned about looking good than doing good. Being more concerned about receiving applause from men, rather than appreciation from God. Working towards exalting self rather than humbly working for God and His people. Seeing yourself as heaven s gate keeper, while that attitude actually keeps you from entering. Consistently more concerned about physical costs than spiritual costs. Loving things more than people. More likely to unconditionally perform a ritualistic task than to unconditionally love an actual person. More concerned about outwardly looking holy, than inwardly actually being obedient to God. Publicly honoring the holy examples of the past, while privately dishonoring the servants of the present. Drawing attention to the sins of others, past and present, implying that you are better, when actually your sins are just as bad or worse, yet not confessed or even acknowledged. Unwilling to repent. I guess an easy way to summarize it all, Old Testament and New Testament, regarding what God hates and loves is, God hates it when we love what He hates, and He loves it when we love like He does. See ya Sunday!
