MOST HOLY TRINITY JUNE 11, 2017 TWO PARISHES SHARING ONE PASTOR: CATHOLICS WORKING TOGETHER Beginning on July 1, 2017, Father Steven LaBaire will become Pastor of both Holy Family and Saint Stephen Parishes. The date marks the beginning of a new chapter in the story of two Catholic neighbors on Grafton Hill. What does this mean? 1. Both parishes will remain distinct. Both churches will continue to be maintained. Each parish will have its own office. Separate records and finances will be kept for both parishes. 2. The English Mass schedule will be modified so that Father LaBaire will be able to celebrate all the weekend English Masses at both churches as well as the Sunday French Mass at Saint Joseph s when necessary. The English Mass schedule is: 4:00 Saturday at St. Stephen s. Sundays at 9:30 am at Holy Family and 7:30 am and 11 am at Saint Stephen s. 3. Collaboration that has been initiated over the past year between Saint Stephen s and Holy Family will continue. This includes alternating daily masses between the churches and shared religious education programs. 4. Further collaboration will be initiated so that: ---The same information and news appears in the Sunday bulletins at both churches. --Any offertory envelope from Saint Stephen s placed on the offertory basket at Mass at Holy Family will be directed back to St. Stephen s. And, any envelope from Holy Parish given at St. Stephen s will be directed back to Holy Family. --Some celebrations (e.g. Thanksgiving Day) will be held jointly. 5. Father Andres Araque is being named parttime associate pastor of Saint Stephen s with a view to establishing a Spanish-speaking there. Deacon Israel Fernandez is being assigned to St. Stephen s as well. 6. Father Adriano Natalino will continue to serve the Brazilian Catholic Community at Holy Family Parish. Deacon Thomas Marshall will continue his ministry at Holy Family. TODAY IS THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY Every human being, regardless of his or her ability or status in the sight of others exists because he or she was born of the coming together of two human beings. No infant survives without acts of feeding and touching which are acts of human relationship. If we exist at all, we exist having been nurtured by human community. We profess that we have been created in God s image. Through the course of time, our ancestors in faith came to understand this image reflected (albeit imperfectly) in the human quest for community and love. When Christians proclaim God as a Trinity, they are proclaiming God to be a divine communion of love calling us into relationship. Those baptized in the name of the Trinity are called to allow every relationship, every human connection to be transformed by the Love Divine that we name as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Today s feast is ancient in the history of our Church, dating back to the 8 th century. However, its implications speak to every generation: Through our baptism we are embraced by a God whose love is creative, self-giving and empowering. Our life s work is to allow every dimension of our lives to be imprinted by this awesome grace. We live in the hope that we will enter into the fullness of divine community when we pass over the threshold of death. Every Sign of the Cross that we make, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, beckons us to see ourselves as embraced by a Mystery beyond what our words can adequately describe, yet surrounding us in every moment, with every breath of our living. Whenever we enter and leave a Catholic Church, we make the Sign of the Cross using water taken from the baptismal font. The water itself is a reminder of our common baptism. The gesture of the cross evokes Christ s self-sacrifice. Finally, the words we say proclaim the purpose of our worship: to seek to be transformed by the Divine Communion of love we call the Most Holy Trinity.

Any gift to the appeal, whether large or small, is greatly appreciated. Envelopes for the Partners in Charity Appeal may be found in the pews of the church. Simply mail the envelope with your gift to the rectory or return by means of the collection basket at Mass during the next few weeks. Please make checks payable to Partners in Charity. Thank you! Thank You A grateful word of thanks to our hardworking choir for another busy year of music ministry: rehearsing every Thursday, singing every Sunday, Christmas, Holy Week, and many funerals. I feel that our parish is blessed for their ongoing efforts and dedication, and I feel personally fortunate to work with them to the glory of God. It is also appropriate to publicly express our deep appreciation to the anonymous donor who has gifted us with beautiful new choir robes, which were dedicated to God s service on Christmas Eve. We are extremely grateful to the person who was responsible for this significant gift to our music ministry. May God s blessings be upon this person for such generosity.
