Revolutionary War Pension Application Service: Penn George Fink R 14 172 Rejected 1 State of Pennsylvania County of York On this the 5 th day of August of Domino 1835 Personally appeared before the Subscriber President Judge of the Court of Common pleas in and for the County of York and State of Pennsylvania George Fink a resident of said County aged seventy eight years who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his Oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of an Act of Congress issued June 7 th 1832 That on the 1 st of July 1776 he was drafted for two months at York to serve in Captain Graeff s Company in Col Swope s Battalion and marched to Lancaster from thence to Philadelphia and from thence to Trenton from thence to Princeton and thence to Amboy and to Brunswick and from thence to Newark and remained in service three months before he was discharged at Newark in the State of N Jersey That on the 1 st of October of the same year as soon as he was discharged at Newark in the State of N Jersey he continued to serve in Captain Grace s Company and enlisted for six months in the Flying Camp and remained in the State of New Jersey untill fort Washington in November 1776 then marched to Trenton and crossed the Delaware River into Pennsylvania and marched up the Delaware River to Easton and was there untill after the Battle of Trenton in January 1777 and then marched to Germantown and there remained until the month of April 1777 when he was taken sick in the service and remained sick for one month after he had served out the terms for which he had enlisted and that he duly served seven months in that tour and was Hon. discharged by Capt Grace at Germantown and that he served at least altogether ten months in the Army of the Revolution (continued) 2 And I further declare that I have no documentation evidence in my possession nor do I know of any persons living whose testimony I can procure to prove my service (except Philip Wagoner) 3 I here by relinquish every claim whatever to a pension or Annuity except the present and declare that my name is not on the pension Roll of the agency of any state or place whatever nor did I ever make an application for a pension until in the present instance Quest. 1 by judge: Where and in what year was you born Answer: I was born in York County in the year 1758 Question 2: have you any record of your age in so where is it Answer: I have a record of my age in my possession Quest n 3: Where were you living when called into service. Where have you lived since the revolutionary war and where do you??? Answer: I lived in York County when called into service and have lived in said County ever since the Revolution War Quest n 4 by judge: How were you called into service were you drafted did you vonunteer or were you a Substitute and if a substitute for whom Answer: I was drafted in the first instance to serve in Capt Graeff s Company for two months & served three months ad was discharged in N Jersey and then enlisted for six months under Capt Grace in the flying camp and served seven months under?? and was disch d at Germantown and that I served ten months at least altogether in the army of the Revolution Quest by judge 5: State the names of persons to whom you were known in your service some of the regular Officers who were with the troops where you served and such Continental and militia Regements as you can recollect and the General Circumstances of your service Answer: I do not recollect the names of any of the Regular Officers who was in service with me as they were mostly strangers to me. I recollect Col. Swope and several of the Captains that belonged to his Battalion to wit Capt Smyser and

Capt Quigle & Capt Spangler and L. Barnitz and there were several others who were Officers whose names I have forgotten Ques by judge 6 th Did you ever receive any discharge from the Service and if so by whom was it given and what has become of it Answer: I rece d two Discharges from the Service signed by my Captains which I have lost Quest by judge 7: State the names of persons to whom you are known in your present neighborhood and who can testify as to your Character for veracity and their belief of your services as a solder of the Revolution Answer: Peter Zorger John York Philip Fetrow Frederick Miller George Aughenbaugh George Neuman Can all Testify to my Character for veracity truth and their belief of my service as a soldier of the Revolution Sworn to and Subscribed before me this 5 th day of August 1835 Daniel Durkee George Fink His mark State of Pennsylvania County of York Personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said county Philip Wagoner a U States pensioner a credible witness who being by me duly sworn according to Law saith that he was well acquainted with George Fink and knows he did serve three months in Capt. Graeff s Company & Col Swopes Battalion and was discharged at Newark N Jersey and that then and there enlisted in the flying camp for six months Informant was in service at the same time and speaks from his own knowledge August 7 th 1835 Zachariah Spangler Philip Wagoner his mark We J G Schumacker A Clergyman Residing in the county of York Pa and John Koch of the Borough of York Residing in the same do hereby Certify that we are well acquainted with George Fink who has Sworn and Subscribed to the foregoing declaration That we believe him to be seventy eight years of age that he is reputed and believed where he resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that we concur in that opinion Sworn to and Subscribed before me this 7 th day of August 1735 Daniel Durkee J. Schumacker John Koch I hereby certify that George Fink is by reason of bodily infirmity unable to attend Court for the purpose of making his declaration Aug. 7 th 1835 Daniel Durkee And I the said judge do hereby declare my opinions after investigation of the matter and putting the interrogations prescribed by the war department that the above applicant was a revolutionary Soldier and served as he stated and further that I know the Reverend John G Schumaker to be a Clergeman resident of the borough and county of York Pa and that John Koch has signed the same is a credible person and that their statement is Entitled to Credit Witness hand this 7 th day of August 1835 Daniel Durkee

I John W Hetrick Clerk of the Court of Common pleas in and for the County of York Pa do certify that the Honorable Daniel Durkee before whom the foregoing Declaration and depositions were made is & was at this time of subscribing his name thereto the President Judge of the Nineteenth Judicial district of the State aforesaid and as such is duly Commissioned & qualified and believe the signature to the same to be in his proper handwriting and so for the certify, that Zachariah Spangler Esquire before whom the foregoing deposition was taken is and was at the time of subscribing his name thereto Justice of the peace in & for said County and as such Duly Commissioned & qualified and believed the signature to the same to be in his proper hand writing In Testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the Court, at York Borough this 8 day of August 1835 J WM Hetrick Sir York August 8 th 1835 Enclosed I send you the documents of George Fink to obtain him a pension if you find all correct please grant him a pension and send me his certificate And you will mutch oblidge your humble Hon J.
