Woodbine Baptist Church June 2017 Newsletter 4912 Woodbine Rd., Pace, FL 32571 (850)994-6169, www.woodbinebaptist.org Being Spiritual Fruit that is Pleasing Amos 8:1-2 Thus the Lord GOD showed me: Behold, a basket of summer fruit. 2 And He said, Amos, what do you see? So I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then the LORD said to me: The end has come upon My people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore. Summertime is almost upon us and everyone is gearing up for summer activities and fun. Unfortunately, the summer break comes and goes all too quickly. In a spiritual sense, summer s ending is often used in conjunction with judgment. In this passage in Amos, the basket of summer fruit represents that God s patience with His people had come to an end, now it was time for judgment and there will be no mercy. Literally, this passage is interpreted as this fruit symbolizing that the people of Israel were now ripe and ready to be consumed. As the fruit was ripe for eating, so were the people ripe for destruction. God tells Amos that, I will not pass by them anymore. God is patient with His people, but we need to know that God also will not tolerate sin in His people s lives, if it continues there will come a time when God will judge a person to correct them. My prayer is that you and I are spiritual fruit that is pleasing to God and not spiritual fruit that is over-ripened and good only to be thrown out (judged) by our God. Bro. David
